Droid X is an absolutely beautiful phone. Love the size, the speed and the hardware to this thing. I've been holding off on my verizon upgrade, but I feel pretty confident that I know what I'll be using it on now...:D

Was about to post it myself. I prefer a physical qwerty but this sucker is so massive Im sure even I could type on it. It looks awesome

Looks like a great phone, but not that much of a leap forward from the Evo. I think the Verizon users here will be plenty happy though. :)

Clearly they are designed to compete against each other. With release dates 6-7 weeks apart Im not sure what kinda leap forward we should expect either.

This and the droid2 are rumored to be running a 1ghz OMAP processor in addition to having a dedicated GPU. Hence why the quandrant scores have been off the charts for this thing. I'm also excited to hear that there is system downclocking going on to save battery when processor cycles aren't needed. Should have a decent battery life as well. I feel like this and the droid2 are verizon's attempt to compete with evo and iphone4 sales.... well the minimal evo sales and the few iphone preorders that have actually gotten processed :p

The thing that entirely knocks that out of any contention is the friggin motoblur - no matter how 'unobtrusive' it's supposed to be, I would avoid it like the plague. I'd wait for it to be rooted with some cyanogenmod available before I picked it up.

wish they put some of these phone to AT&T :( I'd like to have one of these bad boys with sim

Christmas in July!

Seriously, I can't believe I'm actually thinking of buying a Motorola phone again...

damn secksy phone...

although i'd like more specific hardware details... and for a 4.4" screen... 854x480 is kind of small

I cant believe I'm the first one to say that that phone is the ugliest, most ridiculous thing ive seen. Whats next, people holding IPAD sized phones against their heads? The Evo was over the limit, but still an attractive phone. This phone is a brick, with big hardware buttons from 1980. Hell, this phone is similar in size to those early cell phones. What a joke.

Opinions vary. Looks impressive to me.

Looks... OK.
I was hoping for a front-facing camera, though.
I travel a lot and skype video chat is important for keeping in touch with my family.

My only criticism on this phone, other than the motoblur, is the size of the screen -- I think these are starting to get un-pocketable.

Nice phone, but when I saw they tacked on yet another UI... no thanks assholes.

anybody know what the supposed 2yr contract price on this is going to be? $200 seems to be the going rate, but this seems like it might be a little pricier

I'd say any price stated now would be premature. I really do hope this goes for $200 with new 2yr. June 23rd couldn't come soon enough...

It has impressive features but seriously that MotoBlur crap is SO annoying!

And what's with the ugly 4 rectangle buttons on the bottom...

I'm in the same opinion. I'm happy with the size of the iPhone. When I first was debating between scrapping my iPhone and getting an EVO I was impressed with the scree size of the EVO. But, after more thinking, I don't need something that big in my pocket, or to carry around. I think anything over 4" screen is getting a little out of hand.

amazing phone can even protect yourself from attackers
on the side note android is an amazing os

Android is a good OS but Android lovers need to keep in mind that no matter the specs, the Android app store just can not compete with the iPhone store. Every major company, every major corporation, has developed a highly polished, professional application for the iPhone. The apps in the Android market are mostly junk from some dudes basement, lets be honest. The situation will probably improve somewhat over time, but with the fragmentation of the devices, and low market share of Android, iPhone will still be the king of apps for the foreseeable future.

And the king of apps is the king of phones.

Let me put it this way, what if a blackberry came out with a 6 ghz processor? Now BBIM is even faster? Doesn't do anyone much actual good.

Indeed. I think this thing will only run at 300Mhz when its in low mode or whatever its called. Equally true at 45nm there has to be some overheard if they decided to release it a 1Ghz full throttle.

I think you mean July 19 which is the purported release date. June 23 is the official announcement

I meant what I said. I can't wait for the official announcement to be made on both Android based phones. Everything we've seen so far are leaks and previews, with no CONFIRMATION on finalized specs and features.

BHAHAHAHAHAHAHA............
Major Companies will support both platforms, especially as the android OS gains market share. And you comment about mostly junk from some dudes basement - LOL. Those are the same apps that make up bulk of the iPhone app store.

Anybody who says the app store for either platform is a big selling point is deluding themselves.

This is obviously from someone who has never used the iPhone or its app store. I know you like to think there is a lot of junk in the store, but thats just not the case. I have an official USPS app that brings up blue collection boxes near me for mailing letters. I have an ESPN radio app I can use to listen to any game on the run. I have an Emergency Radio app that lets me listen to any police scanner in the country. I even have a Chipotle ordering app for ordering a burrito on the run.

The white house has its own iPhone app for gods sake. Mercedes Benz has an app that you can use as a keyfob to unlock your car doors. Zagat has an app for restaurants. EA games and Activision develop directly for the iPhone.

Every major bank has a first party app with account access. I have an HP 12C calculator I use for financial functions, made by HP. I have an ebay and paypal app.

I have an app from Southwest Airlines I can use to book travel, or even check in on my way to the airport, yes check in for the flight.

I could go on and on, but hopefully by now you get the picture. The app store is the BIGGEST reason to own ANY phone, like it or not.

I had an iPod touch for a few years and dumped probably over $100 into the app store. What did I get? Mostly junk. "Polished, professional," junk. I mean, the apps were cool and they served some sort of purpose. The vast majority of apps I purchased were forgotten relatively soon after. So I'm going to have to agree that the app store is NOT a major selling point to me. It's one of the only things I wish I had on my Evo. But after using a Touch for so longer, I don't really miss any of the apps I used to have. I've found suitable replacements for free on the Android Market.

Yeah well the touch doesn't do many things the iPhone does, where you need constant cellular capability. The purpose of a mobile phone is to do things on the run. And these apps make that a lot easier. Why have the apps on a touch when you can just google something on your home computer? The point is, this is a phone, and the apps greatly expand the usability of the phone.

I know you guys are trying to justify your android purchase, but you'll have to deal with tier two usability. Justify it all you want, but there is no way the best apps will come to Android, in the foreseeable future. And if the iPhone expands to multiple carriers, Android will be in trouble. Because all these Android defenders, who are doing so only because thats their only option, will all of a sudden jump ship. Remember Apple captured 26% of the smartphone market with just one carrier, and will probably eclipse blackberry soon, which is on all carriers with 2 for 1 deals.

It sounds more like you are trying to justify your iPhone purchase (assuming you have one). I don't know why the best iPhone apps WOULDN'T come to Android at some point in time as long as more and more devices are being sold. It just makes sense from a business standpoint. Put the product in more consumers hands.

Either way, thanks for reminding me to download the Wells Fargo app for my Evo. I'll still use it in conjunction with Mint though.

No need to justify my "purchase". I bought the iPhone 3G in Aug 2008, then sold it for 300 bucks the following June and got the 3GS for 200. Now I'm selling my 3GS for 400 bucks and picking the new one up for 200. Im making tons of money by owning this phone. PLUS I have access to the best apps, and I have yet to see an Android phone operate as smoothly as the 3GS, especially on web page scrolling. Maybe it need another Ghz to catch up?

My Evo has been damn near flawless browsing the web. Very smooth and extremely acceptable.

I'm sure it is acceptable, and you're right its not a big deal. I just think that instead of jacking off to spec sheets, android users should realize that its about the smoothness and the user experience, not the mhz.

Webpage scrolling is absolutely fine. I'm on my Droid right now...scrolled down to your lame post just fine hehe :)

And with the Hero and the EVO, I'm enjoying the user experience on Android a LOT more than I ever did with my 3GS. Not to mention AT&T in this area is absolute garbage. Even my apple fanboy friends despise their iPhones, they just won't leave for something else because of the logo on the phone. I do however find it funny that they bitch and moan about all the dropped calls they have now that they left Verizon. And of course, being brand loyal fanboy sycophants, they ALL came from Verizon.

There's ONE app I couldn't replace when I left the iPhone, and I wish Android had something as well polished and functional as this app was: Manifesto. A simple RSS reader that did everything perfectly. So far, that's the only app I couldn't find a perfect replacement for on Android.
