The Droid X

Yeah Ive noticed that. They call it a 3.7 inch screen but its so narrow that im willing to bet the iPhone screen actually has more area.

Good point Jodiuh. The screen on my daughter's iPod Touch is larger than the screen on my Droid. Still I think the 4.3" or 4.4" (depending on the source) screen on the Droid X will be a nice improvement. If not, I have 30 days to return it.

Not sure if this was already posted. Here's Engadget's preview of the Droid X. Scroll down to the videos. Looks like it's running Froyo 2.2.

All reports/previews are claiming that current Droid X's in the wild are running on 2.1 with Ninjablur. Though I suspect that the Droid X will be extremely popular and I doubt we'd have to wait long for 2.2, assuming it doesn't ship with the device.

That home screen looks like Froyo to me.

Especially where custom launchers and manufacturer-specific customizations are involved, it's pretty hard to take the home screen alone at face value.

That said, the Droid X (under the Shadow name) turned in some INSANE numbers on that Quadrant benchmark if it's running 2.1 as we believe - with 2.2 it would pretty much crush the Snapdragon and overclocked A855 Droids!

I called Verizon today, in Topeka, KS. One of the corporate stores a little bit after 9am this morning and talked with one of their reps.

I told him I saw that Verizon was going to make an announcement on the 23rd about the new Motorola Droid X and then asked had her heard anything about the phone coming out the 23rd. I explained to him that from what I understand, or thought at least from the sound of it. The phone might be available in a few days. He then told me that the 23rd was in 2 days and he thought it highly doubtful as there hand been no "training" with the phone yet. I then said, right, of course and thanked him for his time.

My question is, am I misunderstanding engadget and some of the other web sites that are reporting on this new phone. It really does sound to me like it could come out the 23rd.

The latest video on the Droid 2 mentions an expected August release date...

We'll find out in two days. I'm still hoping for a surprise front facing camera.

I thought the announcement on the 23rd covered the Driod X; if that is the case why do you expect to hear about the Driod 2 (which is a different phone) ?

No. Verizon/Motorola announced a "Droid Event' a few weeks back for June 23rd. However, both the Droid x and 2 are some of the worst kept secrets as far as new tech and cellphoens are concerned. With enough evidence, most people suggested a July release for the "X" and an August release for the Droid 2.

I think I recall one Android website claiming July17-19 for the X.

It is laughable how many leaks we've seen from this phone. It's like VZW/Moto doesn't even care anymore, haha.

I like it too, every day I wake up to a new viewing angle. They should give out one spec per day, hehe.

Im sure most of it is purposely leaked. Look how much hype and attention the Droid X got. Its all part of the marketing strategy. Not saying all of the info got purposely leaked but im sure a good amount of it did.

Every time you buy a newer iPhone, Foxconn factory workers die so you can get features other phones already had.

Doesn't Foxconn manufacture electronics for a ton of companies? So I guess youll have to go through and throw out the majority of your electronics to prevent suicides. Go do it right now, stand up for your cause!

Maybe it is Apples fault. I hope the tears of a Foxconn worker were used to laminate the glass of my iPhone4

So you've got 'rabid fanboy' and 'general piece of shit human being' nailed down. Nice for you.

Oh so you do care about the workers! Well, better get to work scrubbing your house of Playstations, Motorola phones, Nintendo Wii's, etc. Cause, you know, you're a really good person.

Anyway, July 15 here we come

Lol, my 30 day Incredible return period ends July 8. Oh well, I'm happy with the Incredible anyway, I don't see anything on the Droid X that makes me feel like I'm really missing out and should switch.

I was going to get the Inc but delay after and now Im glad I waited

Yeah I'm considering returning and switching, but there's that wonderful 7 day gap between my exchange period and the release date, and since I came from AT&T I don't have an old phone to go to.

I returned my Incredible a week after release in anticipation of this mysterious "Shadow" w/ it's 4.3" screen. IMO, the 3.7" on the Incredible just wasn't enough. Now that we have confirmation of the 1Ghz OMAP, I'm pretty excited about this. It's also got a noise cancellation mic that the Incredible's missing, comes w/ a 16GB vs a 2GB SD card, a multitouch keyboard, a screen I can actually SEE in the Arizona sun, a 1570mah vs 1300mah battery, and the body's made of metal instead of plastic.

Well my arguments earlier in this thread had to due with user experience, not hardware. My 3GS is a great phone, looks like Ill be using it a bit longer.

I returned my Incredible as well, but on the last possible day to return it. :D
I mainly did it for the 4.3" screen that can be seen in sunlight, but the OMAP processor with PowerVR SGX GPU, 720p HD recording, HDMI out, 3 microphones, metal chassis, and better battery life are all very nice.
