The Altcoin Thread

Can someone who uses Multipool answer me a rather noob question?

In your account, where you enter your withdrawal addresses, each coin has a "Lock" check box... what's that for?

For the life of me, I can't find the answer... not gonna check it off either in case it screws something up inadvertently.

If anyone wants to help me out, I'm giving it a whirl at running a pool. Currently doing KlondikeCoin (KDC), which is good for about ~0.02btc/MH at current market rates. I can't promise anything since, well, nobody is on my pool yet. But if anyone has any spare hash to throw at it to help make sure I know what I'm doing here, I'd appreciate it. It will end up leading me to opening up more pools later on.

"Inadvertent" change is exactly what its for :)
All it does is make it harder for you to accidentally drop in an address for the wrong coin.
The "enter address" section is so tightly packed on that page, one address on top of another, I'm sure they've had miners put in the wrong pay out address, "inadvertently". I think if you accidentally do that, either the coins are lost when sent or it is hell to try and find out where they went.
Pretty to use, as long as you don't forget that pin. And you can reset it if you just remember your password.

lock is so that nobody can change where the money is sent to without entering the pin

wait so with about 10 I could get near .2 BTC/day without giving it to middlecoin? last night I got like .17 but was messing with the rigs quite a bit during the day. How fast is block find on klondike? I might want to point like my 7850's or something on klondike if it has a decent length between blocks. I HATE working on those fast coins.

OK thanks guys.

Thought it might have been something like that.

I just was making sure it wasn't something crazy like "I don't want to mine this coin so lock it out". I dunno... guess my noobness was catching up with me.

That's about the gist of it. With my 1.2MHash I've been getting about 120 or so coins a day which have been trading at about 0.00022 btc.

It's actually a pretty nice coin. It's not FAST. The blocks aren't huge, 77 coins per block. There's not a bazillion coins to be made. It's just right.

coinmarket.io

It's still not the safest place to use, but if you just get your coins in -> trade -> take BTC out, you should be good to go.

holy crap -- allchains says the difficulty for LTC is due to drop 40% in about 1.5 days.

All that hashing power went to DOGE -- i don't blame them, I've been mining DOGE and cashing out ever 24 hours, made .5BTC in a week doing it :)

so hopefully a massive dif drop will mean we can just jump back on it. The value for how hard it is has been crap lately so hopefully this will mean we can mine for a bit

Anyone get in on CENT when it was still at 1(whatever tiny unit of XPM)? I bought in at 4 and it looks like it's about to hit 6. 50% profit in a few hours, not bad

oh snap I've been sitting on a bunch for a long time now

Also, if you don't see a confirmation email, check your spam filter. I don't have DKIM keys set up yet, so they could easily get lost in the chaff.

this has been a dead coin. it looks like the wallets were recently fixed so it should be coming back to life. if it can reach half its old peak i think i could pay off my car....

I sold it off again. I'm just a bit too afraid to risk losing everything. I made a ~25% profit, but wish I had bought in at the 1 marker. Seems there are tons of sell walls which are kinda scary.

Do you mean 0.2btc/MH per day? That's pretty darn good.

No, there is no way you are gonna get that without instamining a coin. 0.02 btc/MH per day is pretty good these days.

actually its really good... so this isn't on any of the good exchanges? Think of what will happen when it hits craptsy. I'm seriously putting thought into pointing all of my smaller stuff at it that struggles with middlecoin.

I screwed things up the other day trying to get it to steadily stay above 10Mh and screwed things up but I appear to be officially above 10Mh now but one of the 6950 fans appear to be dead and a gigabyte 7850 fan seems to be stopped at times but it runs so cool that the fan doesn't even need to run.

Well I mined ~1670 or so KDC in not even 24 hours I think. I sold 1500 for .115 (It was pretty early and I'm kinda kicking myself over selling so low, but still, massive amounts of BTC for 1.2mh/s, I turned it into .28 with Doge though so not as bad). I still have a bit left which I'm just gonna hold onto.

No, I mean 0.02btc/MH per day. The 0.2btc/MH per day was earlier this week when I cashed out the coins I solo mined from the coin's launch. :)

But current market rates, as of this morning, I sold roughly 100 KDC at a rate of 0.00023 btc. I mine roughly 130 KDC in about one day worth of mining with 3 6950's (so roughly 1200KHash/s). All in all, somewhere between 0.02 to 0.025 btc per day right now assuming an exchange rate of around 0.0002 btc/kdc.

Ya. according to litecoinpool.org stats, network hash rate has dropped to 60MH/s. Although it's too soon to pinpoint the exact difficulty, it claims the difficulty should drop to just under 2400.

It's a great time to stock up on the coins that have dropped in difficulty. I'm currently stocking up on a bit of WDC. Once LTC difficulty drops, I'll mine that again for a while.

WDC is one of my next targets as well. I was going to wait until I had at least a million DOGE, but I think my new plan is to mine DOGE at least until the first block reward split. I'm gambling that the community is still behind it enough to mark that first milestone with a generous price increase. As for LTC, even after the difficulty drop I still think there will be a wealth of other coins that will trump it in profitability which will allow one to purchase more LTC than could be made by mining it directly.

Guys, how much khash can I expect with a 6990. Also is it worth running that for altcoins, taking into consideration the power requirements?

So is anyone interested in trying to create an alt coin with me? Seems like so many are doing it, I mean why not? All we need is a good name, a nice looking logo, and a working wallet at release. It might become a part time job if it works out in the long run, but amount of BTC earned from it would be quite large.

There are so many stupid coins out there it's amazing. BatCoin, NutCoin, FoxCoin, etc. What am I doing not making one myself here?

About 850-900 according to this.

The power requirements are pretty stupid for that card, (as well as the price probably). So unless you can get it for an absolute steal, I'd say no, its not worth it, especially when one 290(x) card could do the same, probably with less power for less or the same money.

You could also spend $800 and get 4x 270(x) cards, that each use about 170w of power, and will push out roughly double what one 6990 can do.

I would wait until it dies down a bit. There are way too many shitcoins being made right now, you would really have to differentiate yourself from others with something really new.

Got a few noob questions here. Mainly, is there anything to be made mining with a single card?

I was able to get a Xubuntu VM setup on my server with a 6450 passed through just to see if I could get things working. I was thinking about picking up something like a 5850 or similar if I can find one for a reasonable price and slapping it in there. Since the server runs 24/7 anyway, the only added cost woudl be running the card itself.

If I believe what calculators like CoinWarz tell me, I could make a decent amount for doing nothing. I'm sure those calculators are optimistic, but how far off are they really? If I could make a buck or two a day even it would be worth it just to mess around.

Well, I've finally verified that the crons are indeed running on my pool, however I don't have them scheduled properly so they're not running quite as often as they should be.

Still haven't found any blocks yet either, but that's to be expected since it was just me and one other person on there (picked up one more person this morning as well). But when you're fighting a network hash rate of about 1GH/s with a bug on a windshield, it's an uphill battle.

---

I'll also open it up to you guys. If there's any particular coin that [H] miners wouldn't mind jumping on as a consensus pool, let me know and I'll work on getting it set up. I have a bunch of server space sitting idle, so I wouldn't mind doing SOMETHING with it. But I'd prefer to be setting up pools where I'm going to have more than just 2 or 3 people mining on it if possible.

not worth the power requirements, you need to sell it to me. I'm pretty sure you'll only get about 500k out of it.

I'll fight you for it...

shut it, I think he might fall for it. How about I buy it and point it at your pool? LOL I need to figure out if I'm going to buy more 270x's or wait till the 7th and just keep my order for Asus 290x's. Tigerdirect has a decent stock of 270's that I kinda want. Part of me is getting sick of having so many cards around and I'd like to just start goin big

I am somewhat interested in making my own as well. I wonder how hard it is? It cant be too hard to get the ball rolling with sites like www.coingen.io I dont want another "joke" coin,it would be scrypt based as well.

My thoughts as well. The hardest part would just be getting the thing launched (and in a smooth manner, ie no broken wallets). The amount of crap that keeps showing up on Bitcointalk is amazing, especially all the hash power that keeps getting thrown at all the crap. Once a crapcoin is up an running, the community/miners will take over. And if you have a smooth launch it's almost guaranteed the coin will be "worth" 10-10000 satoshi (depending on total number that can be mined). And you don't even need to premine it. Just being there at the moment it launches and mining a bunch at less than 1 difficulty will net you some BTC.

It may not work once it dies down. The whole point is to take advantage while everyone is trying to mine everything hoping it's the next DOGE. :p

Yeah ive been discussing it with my friend, i mean i would love for it to take off but im not going to go around trying to prove that its better than so and so coin because in the end its all a copy of litecoin. I dont even want to premine it, i think it would be a fun weekend project to write up and launch and see how it goes. I already have a name in mind as well.

What? Could this possibly be?
