The Altcoin Thread

Multipool went down, that is where the 20mh/s went from the Doge network.

Well, like I said, there were a couple of major DOGE pools that were attacked... one was confirmed to have shut down to combat the problem. So... that's where another major chunk comes from.

EDIT: Moot point now. Whatever was down seems to have come back, DOGE difficulty not set to drop very far at all now.... maybe 20 points if that at all. Heck it might gain some next difficulty change.

Btw scan your MOON coin wallets there seems to be a virus or something embedded with it.

Is this the "official" wallet from the main link? I know a bunch of people have been complaining about supposedly having tens of millions of coins missing from their wallets recently. Is that what you're referring to?

For those with 7950s, and I guess all radeon behave this way, there is a point of diminishing returns on memory clock, isn't there?

I see many people posting memory clocks at 1500mhz and I think that is complete overkill, I don't see any improvements past the high 1300s

Yes. Other than the pool fees, they seem rather stable and fairly professional.

Nice. I'm thinking about doing Moon coins with this pool.

Also, Cryptsy is ripping me off, I'm pretty pissed. I deposited LTC 3 days ago, and it's no where in my balances, but in my deposits, and I have submitted 2 support tickets....

I get the whole, "new-guy" wait times, but 3 days? faack....

it's like that with core clock for sure but I try to get memory as high as I can without temps skyrocketing or instability issues. If your RAM overheats everything grinds to a halt. I've started going through my rigs to undervolt everything.

Well undervolting helps limit cpu temp, not memory because you cannot independently control memory voltage (nor would you want to)

I don't see the point in running high memory clocks over 1400, I don't see any gains.

Unless someone can prove me wrong otherwise.

cooler core causes cooler air around the RAM which makes cooler RAM. While it may not directly cause cooler RAM it does help the RAM when you undervolt.

after digging around a bit, it looks like lantis (who is no dummy and knows his stuff from research) runs his ram at 1250, which I am trying now

http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/4765/4o1v.png

he then raises the gpu clock based on what each brand of card can handle at 0.962v
which I am also going to try after I re-flash all these cards since they are voltage locked

it varies card to card, which core and cards are sensitive to core clocks in relation to those high memory clocks. My R9 290's make there best hash rates at stock speeds because I can't find a combo of core and memory that yields better results.

I always run max at 1250, never saw any gain past that. Also if you need those tahiti bin files for cgminer here are ones that worked again for me. (Quite possible to get a good increase in hash rate, just make sure to do lookup gap 2)http://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoin/comments/1ui3bx/increase_such_hashrate_1_to_5_scrypt_tweaking/

My 7970's like the .57 ratio, and so I am running them at 933/1650, and I have tried tons of other values and thats where my cards are the happiest, and get me the best kh/s (about 650). If I raise the core clock more they can go faster but they start to get hot and unstable.

It depends on the cards. It seems all of my custom 7950s do best at 1250 memory, whereas the two reference ones I have do best the higher the memory clocks (1500+).

I've never been able to get any reasonable hash rates out of my 7950's at anything lower than 1500. In fact, 1 MHz off of 1500 either way and the hash rate tanks.

you should be be getting 720+ out of a 7970 unless you are running at an intensity lower than 20

No. Usually they are run with -g 2 (2 threads I believe) and I-13

I have never seen a working config for a 7970 that has an intensity higher than 13. Just sayin'. I run 3 of them and can't get above 13 myself. Tried just for kicks.

I have a 7970, offline for now because I don't have a big enough power supply and it got 720+ all day and night.

This was under bamt and not windows.

Settings were

"intensity" : "20",
"vectors" : "1",
"worksize" : "256",
"kernel" : "scrypt",
"lookup-gap" : "2",
"shaders" : "2048",
"thread-concurrency" : "34816",
"gpu-threads" : "1",
"gpu-engine" : "1080",
"gpu-memclock" : "1496",
"gpu-powertune" : "20",

Note how I ran it single thread with very high TC that was a multiple of shaders

Apparently there are some people out there making mods to the opencl code... At some point I will probably go thru and put some of the optimizations together and see what I can get. That will take a whole lot of experimentation heh.

Yeah that sucks. I bet a bunch of people will get off of it now and it will go back down.

It jumped from over 200% profitability on Dust to about 140%. Still the best on there but not a slam dunk anymore.

woke up and saw the 1700+ difficulty -- looks like next difficulty is dropping back to 1.0 to 1.2k

I'll still mine it and dump every 24 hours -- but those 200% days were nice while they lasted. As the difficulty bobs up and down I'm sure we will see more good days, but of course more and more people are jumping on the DOGE train till it derails the difficulty.

Just sad I didn't horde a shit ton of DOGE back when I could mine 250k a day, thus the world of crypto, where seemingly the most random unlikely to succeed coin winds up being the cash cow. I'm not terribly upset though -- I was able to generate 0.50BTC in one week thanks to mining DOGE and dumping twice a day. $380 pure profit (and I got to keep my house warm for free). Not too bad for a small time guy :)

It's now at 1233

multi-coin type pools are killing it because it recalculates difficulty in just a few hours compared to over a day for litecoin and a week for bitcoin

While I celebrate the idea of a multicoin pool for maximizing ones profit without actually working for it... I also liken them to a Tasmanian devil of the scrypt world.

I'm not sure of the exact hash power but if you have 10,20,30+ GHash that gets pointed almost randomly at the most profitable coins it's akin to them barging in a bar, getting sloppy drunk and tearing the place up, then leaving the regulars to clean up the mess. Wash, rinse, repeat every few hours.

I can think of no spin you could put on a situation like this such that it would be beneficial in the long run to any crypto coin. If hashing power/difficulty on the BTC network swung this wildly it would be another thing on the list of unattractive qualities.

I see no problem in doing this. The technology is here so why not? I don't have long term faith in any coin other than LTC/BTC and middlecoin can't do that to LTC.

There is a simple solution out there and it is simply fast retarget times. New coins are going to have to retarget quicker to counter this but the old coins generally aren't the ones getting hit by these since newish has generally been the most profitable.

I always come into a bar though and get sloppy drunk within 15 minutes and put my hands on things then leave....

I am noticing i am getting more rejected shares but 0 HW errors. This means my 290's are mining fine, but the pools are causing the rejections. I started out on LTC and the pool I was on, I never had rejects. But on dogehouse and multi pool, I get quite a few of them.

dogecoin changes blocks every minute, if your miner submits a calculation when the current block is just passing, it will get rejected

ltc changes every 2.5 minutes which should have fewer conflicts

okay make sense. So as long as my HW errors are 0, cards are operating fine.

Well in theory you can still have HW:0 and the cards are not working properly and very slowly but we'll ignore that case.

You can also try

--no-submit-stale

or in cgminer.conf

"no-submit-stale" : true,

to see if it really reduces the reject count or not

When I tried middlecoin vs a smallerish LTC pool. I had my rejects increase ~2%. I think it's just a consequence of a larger pool.
