yeah they're somehow quite a bit better than 7870's too. I think I'm not gonna touch a 7850 again unless they're $125 or less. The $175+ 7850's are just stupid

Which new risers?

Do you mean the usb risers that cost ~$20 ea?

I've been using standard pcie16x risers that are only about 6inches long for each cable and have been using them for about 9 months without problems. But I am contemplating purchasing 20 of the usb style pcie risers and rebuilding the mounting of the gpus to get 6 or 8 inches between each card.

Fortunately, my electricity is $0.07 per kw-hr so while my monthly electric cost is not small, I can do a lot with it.

I agree. I have a couple 7850's and 6870's and they do ok, but I think I'm going to start selling them off and use the money for more 270 cards. The 6870's are struggling to hit 350KH/s and use quite a bit more power as well. I have a 650W power supply in my HTPC and I think I can get away with 2x 270 cards in it, if I can fit them in the case.
 
Hmm, apparently PotCoin has two "pot" ... er ... "retailers"? that have committed to accepting the coin.

I think I just found my next pool coin... lol.

Hell if I know. There's only two states where it's publicly "legal", so I have no idea how that all would even work. But I sure as hell am tempted to set up a pool - as "doobie-ous" as that would put myself in any sort of legal position.
 
Wow, DOGE difficulty, at this moment, is reported to drop below 1000 for the first time in a couple weeks.

EDIT: Oh, spoke too soon... it might actually go slightly above 1000 now.

EDIT #2: Spoke too soon about speaking too soon.... it just dropped to 740! It's amazing how that happened too... the network hash rate actually dropped from around 60MH/s to 36MH/s moments before the difficulty change and now, the very second the difficulty dropped, it's back up to 56MH/s. It almost appears that some large pool (or two) are gaming the system. Dunno if that's really what's happening.. it might just be a coincidence.

I would bet its middlecoin gaming the system like a champ
 
Three things happened with doge, litecoin diff went down so some major miners returned to it, the price went down so auto switching multi-coin pools stopped slamming it, and last microsoft did something to stop some of the virus bots out there that were hijacking video cards to mine.

Remember doge recalculates every 4 hours, very fast compare to litecoin so it can change a few times a day.

The Microsoft thing is news to me... but it's a bonus nonetheless. Maybe we'll see less of "Mr. 300+MH/s" on the various pools... always "anonymous" but always there with his 300+MH/s. My first thought after seeing that was "botnet".

When I saw that IRC snippet from that Wolong guy who is supposedly manipulating the DOGE market, I figured the chance was now a lot greater that something might occur at the block reward split. So, even though I have this urge to mine a whole lot of other different coins... WDC, LOT, even NET is looking good lately... I'm staying on DOGE for now.

I switched over to WDC a few days ago and I've got about 250k LOT saved for a rainy day. May mine smore doge now that the difficulty came back down some.

You missed it. It's back to being rather high.... 1271. It's slated to go even higher if the network hash rate stays the way it is.... :(

On the other hand, since the difficulty has risen, it is no longer the most profitable coin anymore so Multipool and Middlecoin may move their massive resources elsewhere if they haven't already meaning the difficulty should drop again.
 
Yeah, I'm gonna stock up on more WDC. Middlecoin is pretty good for those who just want good payouts right now though.

It's another coin.

Mediocre performance. Constantly up and down on the Coinwarz chart. Possibly due to difficulty bouncing. I haven't kept an eye on its value, but it appears to have mediocre volume as well. So, ya... just another coin unless it has something that can differentiate it from the pack.

It can find its way to the top of the Coinwarz chart off and on which means it probably doesn't do too bad now and then. Multipool has it as one of the coins they mine, so it can't be all bad.

you cannot go over 100cm and if you do 100cm you need a good quality cable that is properly shielded and noise becomes a problem

that's why I went with thicker 50cm cables

note 50cm is almost 20 inches, 100cm is almost 40 inches, that's ridiculously long, I bet your power cables are not that long

Drawing in 50 degree air to cool the rig and the other cards drop nicely to 60c and 2000rpm fan

Powercolor is like, nope, here's 74c and 3200rpm.

I really have to take them apart and redo the thermal grease, I bet it is a mess.

I just do not want the downtime.

What model? I have the R9 270X Devil and it ran the same way, 77C with fan at 90% and on a riser, till I used the under-volt FLASH mod.
Now at 1.131V it stays at 75C and fan about 45%.

It's a 7950 pcs+

I already have it modded down to 1.056 - doesn't seem stable below that

I am virtually positive it is either the thermal paste or the shroud design that prevents proper airflow through the heatsink

Looking at the bios though the TDP limit for this card is very very low compared to other 7950s so it may be a low quality binned chip

I was talking to somebody in my school about mining and they said they would sell me a 7950 and I was like any brand but powercolor and I'll buy it... Don't have a 7950 in my hands even though the price would have been decent I just won't touch them. I'm sure the low end cards like a 7850 would be fine but anything that is big they can't handle and if the card dies they take FOREVER!

Yeah, it's the reason I didn't jump on the 7850 sale at newegg last week. The fans are shit, and they just are substandard in just about every which way. Great cards if you expect vanilla, but don't expect to do anything other with them.
 
I've really had no problem with the two 270X models I own, but the fans on the 7870 Myst I have are fragile as crap.
One basically disintegrated when a nylon standoff I was using to keep two GPUs in a nekkid rig separated slipped.
Not a scratch on the nylon but three fan blades separated at the hub.
The card is two weeks old and now I am looking for a replacement fan.

i have an asus 280x where 1 blade randomly flew offf that I noticed yesterday and its creating a vibration. I'd RMA it but do I really wanna lose 750k?
