Bitcoin chips started at the same high markup.

Once the manufacturing gets cranking and there are multiple factories in China stockpiling competing chips, you'll see these at a tenth of the price.

I guess the next generation of coins will have yet another proof-of-work.

Primecoin might be the only one immune right now.
 
awesome, found a workaround for my pool's cron issues. Everything should be happy now. Not how I wanted to do it, but it works.
 
DOGE are tanking in price right now. Time to buy some or are they going to bottom out even more?
 
It's rebounding. It's probably due to the fact that BTC dropped a few bucks after the news story was released that the CEO of BitInstant was arrested and charged with money laundering of funds used in Silk Road transactions. There's that, and a couple of transactions on Cryptsy in the DOGE/BTC market for 10 Satoshis could have something to do with it.

BTC is rebounding a bit as well.

it was my collection of 280x's and 7970's. I believe i can get more out of them but yes WU improvement too. This was caused by trash stock memory timings

Sunny I just pointed 2 of my lil rigs at you. Should be about 2.5Mh/sec to test you out with. Middlecoin sucked today so I'm looking to gamble on a coin that I can hold longer term on. If I like what I see I'll point more at it. What are the good pools for that coin so I can run a fallback for if you're down? I set failover only with middlecoin to fall back to.

I'm gonna have to do some calculations, but ~ 15 watts is much better than 170-200 watts for us with really expensive electricity(I am now paying 37 cents per kWH).

I may actually buy a few if I make some decent money. It would be great to start replacing GPU's with it, but you do have to have quite some capital to make any real use of it.

Bay Area in California. PG&E is the biggest ripoff company I know. They charge so much for no apparent reason, I bet the state doesn't even tax them that hard, they just do it because they can.

I might buy 3 of those USB miners since they basically don't add anything to power usage but add ~210kh/s. Meh, I wish I had way more capital to invest in this.
 
I wouldn't pay $90 each though. In a few months that price may be half with competition.

Plus these are first gen. Imagine how much faster next year if they do a die shrink and other improvements.

My Sapphire 270x 4gb model came today. Started messing with it tonight and I must say I'm impressed so far. Very little tweaking I've done with it, its rocking @490KH/s already. I may end up picking up 3 more of them and using them in my main rig for gaming/mining and selling off my GTX770 4gb.

True. Just a question though concerning USB miners, are there USB hubs that can handle a lot of these? And would that still need to be connected to a PC or could you just connect it to a monitor/ethernet adapter to setup the pool?
 
not really tempted to buy these. The payoff on these things to beat a 7970 is 2+ years. A 7970 is way more useful as well.

Whoa. After all taxes, fees and other nonsense I am paying 15.5

However if I used just 100 kwh a month more it would be in higher bracket, so I am stuck for now.

I just did a low voltage mod to try to drop it another 25-50 watts total.

I think part of my OC problem is that I am pushing the power supply so hard the +12v is sagging below 12

In general, yes they suck quite a bit if your power is cheap. Right now 750 watts for ~1500kh/s costs me $200 a month in power. With ~22 of these I would get the same hash rate but only use 55 watts, which would lower my power bill a lot. That is ~$15 per month vs $200. And since I would be using much less, my rates would be lower as well. $175 per month in savings. The upfront cost is kinda bad though I guess. I expect Gen 2 to improve on this at least 2-5x.
 
If you're looking for power efficient, there's a Sapphire HD 7870 right now on Amazon for $160AR. The one I just got in is doing 385 kH/s at 915/1250 with a core voltage of 0.91V (undervolted reported by GPU-Z). It may be the most power efficient GPU I've ever tried at mining. I'm not sure how much power it's using, but when it's only 53C at 46% fan speed, I know it isn't much.

I'll leave around 2.5 pointed at ya but I tossed about 9.5Mh area at ya for a bit to try to force a second coin in for ya. After looking at the exchanges klondike really isn't very easy to cash out so I wont stay all in on it. I'll just keep the 2.5 that is low powered cranking away because middlecoin just rejects too much from them.

They're patiently waiting to get on a bigger exchange. Looks like Cryptsy is actively aware of it now, so who knows. I'm in it for the long haul. I like the coin and the properties of it - it's got a good transfer speed and it's doesn't have scam written all over it. The dev is active too and not over-promising anything. I just wish I didn't sell off all of my solo mine stake at this point.

Anyway, if any of you all want to see any other coins pooled up, let me know! I have plenty of server space to spare.

I went ahead and grabbed one to play with. I like the low power cards. The 270x still seems to be the champ though since some are going well into the 450k area like the gigabyte specifically. I'm probably gonna order a saphire from tiger

make sure you send me a heads up if theres anything else you wanna play with. i'd like to grab some piles of various coins now that I've paid all the bills I have to pay before my student loan refund check comes. I plan on taking about another $2500 when my refund comes and build some more since I'm still getting my money back at a rate that is very nice.
 
I've noticed when I mine on a DOGE pool, I get a TON of discarded coins. After running for an hour I've got 250 accepted and 350 discarded.

Is this normal? Part of the coin, or this pool? Can I adjust any settings to improve this?
 
lol 70kHash for the USB miner? only way I'd buy some is if they were 30 dollars each. and I'd have to be able to order at least 20 or 30 of them add in the fact I'd have to go and buy another 3 powers 10 port hubs... bleh

ASIC's for scrypt aren't going to make sense for people with cheap power for quite some time.

A bit random, but you could technically run like 7 or so of those USB hubs off of one PC right?

If my math is correct, 11. Max devices on a USB network is 127. Each additional powered hub counts as a device, so with 11 hubs each with 10 USB miners, you'd be looking at a total of 121 devices (not counting the motherboard USB hub).

Thanks....but I am getting it for around 300 with a waterblock. The 6990 seems to hash around 800-900, but also sucks power, I think about 350W for the card. this is where I am stuck on whether to do it or not. I am looking at LTC, Doge, Lotto etc.

I believe for bitcoin they made usb blocks that could hold 40 or 50 devices with a custom power supply.

they also make far less expensive 10 port usb hubs which is probably the better way to go

however you really want to wait until these devices are half the price in a few months
 
It is so weird to have massive uptime with these new risers

I am used to constantly messing with the rig and having to run over and look at it each morning to make sure all the cards are running..

Now it "just works" and is almost boring, lol, all the drama is gone, oh well

You got it. We found a few more blocks overnight. I'll be trying to pimp the pool on bitcointalk a bit to see if we can pull the hashrate up a bit more. It's definitely not quite as efficient as mining on the big pool (yet). But this is more for fun.

Next project is to find the "next big coin" and see if I can pool for launch.

How long do transfers usually take from this one?
I had no trouble getting coins in, make a trade and start a transfer out but it's been a few hours now without any confirmation on the receiving end, Coinbase.
I ran this as a trial for future consideration.

yeah after getting my systems 100% stable its been running for weeks 24/7 now and im bored with it. i missing getting tons of boxes of parts and trying to get the best hash rate per card. Sometimes i forget i even have miners going in the next room.

That why I took everything down over the weekend and messed with everything. added 1Mh but then one of my cards died after a few days of running that new BIOS. I blame the accelero for keeping the GPu cool but letting the VRM's fry once it started being properly used because there's an identical card running great using the reference cooler in what used to be the spot right next to it.
