The Altcoin Thread

Basically Dogecoin has gotten enough press it is on the radar of the Chinese now. China is clamping down on Bitcoin, but the Chinese are taking advantage of the fact that Dogecoin is something else. I think it will pump up in value, then once the Chinese government announces it is on their radar, you will see a drop.

If anybody has some investment money sitting around CENT wallet was fixed today so it will be coming back to life after being dead quite a while. I grabbed a crapload at 1 satoshi XPM worst case you sit the flipper and double money

Someone posted this on Bitcointalk.

It's like the Chinese are trying to replace CNY with crypto.

The economics involved with that is just not feasible. Now, Doge @ 1 cent, or 10 cents?... That's still a moon case scenario but if it gets enough traction, somewhat reasonable.

More or less. It's not a replacement but there is a massive amount of wealthy Chinese fleeing China with the money they have made. China, naturally, is starting to worry about this and is trying to clamp down on how much you can take out of the country through normal means. However, crypto offers a way for the Chinese to not only make more money, but get the money out and into a deregulated system that the Chinese government - nor any government at this point - cannot effectively touch.

Once enough Chinese money is in crypto, and the wealthy Chinese want to leave China, you will see a big market for US and European luxury commodities being sold in cryptocurrency to those same Chinese that don't want to take a tax hit on converting crypto to Fiat.

Midday drop inbound. Time to stock up on cheap coins for the afternoon bounce.

Yeah i know,i just like having a pipedream of one day quitting my job because of doge. I wouldnt be upset if it hit 0.10 just not as happy as getting to retire very early.

I'm a newb but I'd love some advice on this. Whats the magic number you buy at?

There is no magic number. For example, I just played the market on LottoCoin with a bit of bitcoin I had sitting on cryptsy. I was watching what it had done over the last ... while. I looked at the buy orders. I said "Hmm, 48 looks good." I didn't figure it'd go past 45. It dropped to 38. It hasn't quite recovered yet but it's close, so I'm left holding the bag for now. I'm figuring it will hit 60 again, hoping for 65.

Basically, this is a more fun, and more lucrative form of gambling.

edit: Correction, not holding the bag anymore. I've at least broke even, and I'm in profit territory as of this edit.

Well to be fair on the gambling... I've learned a lot about trading patterns, trends, chart reading, etc using small money at BTC-e (and using BitcoinWisdom's charts) in a month or two than I ever could have learned through the stock market in years. It's amazing how the trading patterns really do seem mathematical. This is probably why good bots make money. They're purely based off math, and have no emotion involved in their equations.

And actually, if you compare the 1-day DOGE chart on Cryptsy to any BTC 2-month chart, they look very very similar. DOGE may tell us BTC is headed in fact, depending on what it does next. DOGE may be the fastest full completion of a bubble cycle to happen in real time (until the next one). I am going to learn everything I can possibly can from this trade action.

I'm back to mining world coin. Might be a god idea to mine coins that were really profitable before now since everyone is so focused on Doge.

Definitely this. Mathematics rule supreme in a completely unregulated, purely speculative market like this. I don't have the time or inclination to devote to trying to make money in this fashion, but it is really interesting to watch.

Hmm... is it just me, or is a crash in our near future? This doesn't look like the typical market "nap time" to me. Feels like playtime is over.

it will probably go down some, but then people will rush in to buy cheap and bring the price back up.

DOGE now has a higher network hashrate than LTC

Yeah its been like that all morning. Crazy how this coin is barely a month old and is doing so well. Now if it can sustain this growth will be the real question.

Any smart "investor" will cash out a large chunk of their holdings after the kind of increase that has happened a major correction is due. I am beginning to feel like this coin will be around a while but everything has cycles and there's no way this coin can keep going forward without taking a few steps back

DOGE seems to be going the way of LTC as well. It is quickly becoming less profitable not by virtue of it being a low value coin, but because the difficulty is skyrocketing so high that production will become the bottleneck. I may follow suit with others and switch to a different coin now that many have had their difficulties drop. WDC seems like a good candidate.

it'll either fly up or down, no telling which

The market charts seem to have that "skipping stone" look to them, where they take hops, but each one smaller than the last one. And we all know what happens when the stone runs out of energy after the last hop...

The only question is how many hops does this little rock have in it?

If I wanted to buy 0.25 BTC and try my hand at some quick trading, where do you folks suggest I go?

I started using Crypto-trade.com a few months ago...seems like everyone is using cryptsy and does nothing but bitch about how bad they are...?

That is exactly why I asked. Cryptsy is the first place that came to mind because of their volume, but all I can recall is people whining about how slow they are.
Ok crypto-trade.com and coinbase.com
Any other recommendations? How long does it take to actually buy a BTC and have it available for exchange?

I have no idea, the only thing I've done through Crypto-trade is sell some LTC for USD. Didn't take long to do that though. I've hung onto most of my coins so far, trading doge right now for BTC through crypto-trade, i'll let you know how it goes...

For coinbase you need to have your bank be verified mostly 3-5 days. Darn it was 900 difficulty last night before I slept now its 1.3k lols.

Ok cool.
So do all exchanges require you to link your bank account?
I am kind of apprehensive about this. I was hoping I could just use a credit/debit card to buy.

Ah dang it.
Any other good sites that don't require this?

I think BTC-e has a paypal option to buy Bitcoins but the fees are ridiculous and has a minimum withdrawal for it.

not that i know of, coinbase is probably the easiest way to buy btc with usd

thanks for responses.
I might just use a small account I have at a credit union...
It stinks that it can take a few days to verify though.

Just looking for a quick answer regarding the current market or whatever.

Would it be worth mining with my 6950 for 9~ hours each day while I'm working? What kind of profit could I expect? I don't have to pay for electricity at all. Could I possibly make more than $10/day doing that? Anything less doesn't seem worth the bother.

Good lord, is every doge pool having trouble right now? I've been hopping between 3 and all of them have site problems. Their web servers must be getting the shit beat out of them. I'm considering mining another coin for a bit.
