The Altcoin Thread

I don't know if it's worth building more rigs at this point with scrypt ASICs coming out. I'm thinking about trying to add another 1MH/s, if I can do it via PCIe risers and if the PSUs can take an extra GPU. This way I'm only paying for the GPU itself not along with every other component needed to build the entire rig. I could maybe pull this off with 3x7850s. But overall building new miners is long behind me. Whatever I have I will just continuously run until I cannot profit anymore due to electricity costs. Everything is all paid off so even hardware resale value isn't considered at this point. Just running (electricity) costs.

I'm also similar to you except instead of buying more rigs at this point, I'm just diversifying it back into the crypto market. Like right now DOGE is 100% more profitable than LTC, so it makes sense to mine DOGE, keep half, and put the other into BTC (or even just $ if I feel BTC isn't a good investment at this time).

If done right, it should be way more ROI in the end than buying more GPUs at this point with Scrypt ASICs coming in. I do the same with pretty much any new alt coin - mine, sell off half to match LTC profits, and keep the other half on the house. I'm finding a very common theme here - sell a new coin when it hits an exchange. It's too profitable at first, almost always. Take your profits and buy back more later on if you really like coin, or put it into BTC or fiat.

DOGE just happened to be an exception where I decided to keep literally all of it because I spent so little time mining it.

It all comes down to if you think the ASIC's are close or not. I believe they're not. I also have all but video cards sitting here ready to build more. I have to order another Dell server PSU or two but using small PSU's to power the main components(which I have) and maybe $60 for the server PSU's and oddball cords. Over the weekend I consolidated quite a few systems using risers so now I have like 10 slots completely unused so I plan on filling all the slots I have available and then reevaluating. When the only expense is video cards the ROI is still only like 3 weeks so I should be adding a good 3Mh or so at least.

I just bought, so I assume its gonna go down the drain now. The market seems to look at what I do and does the opposite :(

Likewise, I just used the teensy bit of BTC in my Cryptsy account to buy some DOGE, I am now looking forward to it dropping in value by about half.

The really scary thing is, I'm looking at the sell walls, and they are starting to dwindle. Is this maybe finally time where I make some money off of a Doge investment? Hell will have frozen over then.

I did make ~.115 BTC for mining like a day or so of Klondike though(Value for that just increased though, so boo on me)

If you say so.

In order for DOGE to overtake LTC at current values, it would have to gain twenty thousand times its current value. It has gone up about 4 times its value since about a week ago.

I can see it going to $0.01, a factor of about 10 times its value right now.... but not $24. Now you're just talking crazy talk.

I will even give it the benefit of the doubt and say it might even make it to $0.10.... at which point I will cash out and buy a house.

You misunderstood us I think, we aren't saying 1 Doge = $24, but the overall market cap could be higher than LTC.

oh dear lord, there's a concerted pump action going on with mooncoin too. And it's working.

This DOGE thing reminds me of the AMD/Nvidia fanboys or the MS/Sony whackos who blindly follow a brand without even stopping for logic.

So whats the plan? sit on a few hundred thousand and if it makes it to a dime cash out and buy a car?

Let me ask you what LTC really has going for it other than being the first scrypt coin? People actually use DOGE to buy stuff and are funding the Jamaican bobsled team. What is the plan with any of these crypto currencies? You are asking a question which is applicable to pretty much all of them.

I haven't said I prefer ANY coin. I've referenced LTC as being stable so I don't mind my money sitting on it.

I've seen plenty of coins fly up/down. I am simply saying blind faith in a brand is simply stupid. If you get to a nice level of profit simply take the money and run UNLESS you can afford to take a massive gamble with that amount of money. If you wouldn't be fucked if it all went away then go for it. Me personally I couldn't afford to have something like $8k sitting on a coin that could easily disappear.

actually I'm not even keeping much sitting on BITCOIN! I keep just sending the money to amazon and places like sears. If lowes gift cards were available I'd be very happy and finish remodeling.

Use coinbase!!! Money right into your bank account is great.

Anyways, speculation for when the real dump will occur with Doge? Someone is obviously pumping it (whenever it stalls at a big sell order suddenly a massive 100BTC buy order comes up)

That's what I need to do.

I just hate taking down a working rig to adjust things :(

DOGE broke 150 and went up to 178 before falling back down. Looks like we're not done.

saw multipool jump over to it and got me like 150k moon so now I'm switching to dogehouse

yeah, I took a nap this afternoon after I switched to moon.. a few hours later I woke up to 100k. It won't last, 100k is nothing. But hey, who knows. With all this market manipulation crap, moon could very well be worth 200 satoshi by the end of the week.

Moon is being pumped? I sold that shit right after it got listed for like 4x the value it is now :p

LOL! MOON.... well, at least that 11 BILLION MOON sell order at .00000001 got cleared out of there. I guess people are finding new uses for their new found wealth from selling their DOGE. MOON is the new money sink.

OMG! It didn't go down after I bought?! Holy crap!

Oh, no.... wait just a minute!.... I just tried Cryptsy and can't even find the DOGE/BTC or DOGE/LTC markets! I guess my purchase managed to crash the markets off the face of the planet!

EDIT: Forgot about Vircurex.... 184 and climbing.

Why you son of a bitch :D

I bought at coined up and sent that over to Cryptsy, but it actually looks like Cryptsy is the lowest of them all (Vircurex, Bter and Coiendup)

pretty sure DOGE has forked. It couldn't handle the massive surge in power hitting it

It might be that Cryptsy's the lowest right now because nobody can actively get to the DOGE markets to buy/sell. I don't know how long the markets have been inaccessible or if they are inaccessible to everyone or just a select few.

mkrohn might be onto something... if the markets were taken offline, that could be a very viable reason.

Nothing... just speculation. I did some research. Even the official forums and dev blogs contained no mention of a fork. I suppose everyone's extra wary of it though because it happened 3 or 4 weeks ago or something.

BTW, speculation was wrong. Cryptsy's back... and at 184 like other exchanges.

well crap this defies all logic, it is due for a correction since its up more than 5x in the past week for absolutely no reason

It briefly hit 300...

If you feel the need to get in, on an upward trend, chances are you are too late.

You are quite right sir!

I thought about it for a bit, and quickly talked myself out of it. I calculated that by the time my deposits even went through, who knows what it would do.... it could be much higher depending on how fast deposits can be processed at some of these exchanges, it could be at a peak (just my luck), or it could be on the way down.

Yeah, I watched the cyclical rises for the last three days and each day I said "I should get in..." but I stayed the course opting to mine it daily instead. Could have made 10x my money if I got in... but I got burned before. I bought 50k doge back when it was around 120 before the great crash, and fought the market as it was going down. Held it until it for a while and sold after it perked back up to about 40 briefly. Yeah, kicking myself now. Vowed never to do that again.

and now craptsy killed all sell orders before I could sell

They did wut?
