The Altcoin Thread

People are now putting up huge buy walls.

It will be held at 70 for days, there is over 100 BTC holding it back.

Not sure why they are trying to manipulate it downwards.

I'm going back to DOGE mining. I figure I should before block rewards halve. My hashrate is still good for 100K DOGEs per day. I can at least pick up another 1M DOGEs before it happens.

I was contemplating buying a few DOGE when it was at 53. That was last night and I fell asleep thinking about it. Woke up this morning and it was 74 (Cryptsy).

I think I jinxed it by thinking about buying at 74. Every time I buy into something, it drops. Maybe just me thinking about buying DOGE put a curse on it.

never chase because there's always a correction unless of course mega news comes out otherwise the daily just random ups/downs never do that chasing

Well, I let my common sense prevail this time. But I was seriously thinking about it. I figure I can mine enough before the block halving, so the peanuts I could buy with what little BTC I have on hand wouldn't make much difference in the long run, unless DOGE were to go up tenfold of course, then even small amounts seem significant.

At times like that, I turn to the one piece of wisdom I learned from the troll box on BTC-e of all places... "Sell when it's going up, buy on the way down." Works much better than "Buy when you think it's going up more and doesn't, and panic sell when you see it in free fall after buying at a peak and want to cut your losses because you don't think it will ever get higher than it just did when you bought it."

Litecoin difficulty did another increase, touching 4k now, but no price increase

Doge is at 82 satoshi now

Ya, actually Litecoin was creeping up the Coinwarz charts slowly. I guess everything else is on a slow decline in value (except for DOGE right now)... I was wondering whether LTC was going to increase in difficulty or if enough of the attention had been stolen by DOGE (and a few other select coins) to cause it to drop again.

How I wish I'd saved those millions of doge I mined at launch

Should have sold most of it when it was at 200 satoshi. It has a possibility of getting higher than that, but it isn't really that huge.

screw it, I hate you guys I'm jumpin back on multipool to go ahead and grab some DOGE

If anyone has mined any new alts recently, coinmarket.io is a new exchange that has opened up. The transactions to getting into and out of the exchange and very quick right now. I've been trading around some DGB, NOBL, and USD-E over there. Overall so far it's been an A+ experience. Maybe because it's new and volume is low, so we'll see how it holds up.

Glad I switched back to Doge a few days ago before the rise in difficulty and price lol.

even what I mined since I went to bed is worth like .04 BTC according to multipool frickin woof. Makes me sad to see how many DOGE I sold down at 30 and less not that long ago when the coin was tanked I thought for sure this thing was swirling the toilet

Yeah and it's still going up wonder if rumors of a "Wolong" is true (hitting 200) it's now 128++.

What's really disconcerting though is the fact that something supposedly as "decentralized" as a bitcoin-based virtual currency that is supposed to be resilient to manipulation being wholesale manipulated like this. It makes me have little faith that virtual currencies can actually accomplish what they set out to accomplish in the first place.

dang my sell order was triggered, if I had seen the rally I would have raised it

For a few minutes on the first day it was available on cryptsy, doge sold for 0.08 btc (80,000 satoshi)

Tried desperately to get coins into cryptsy that day but their system was all messed up.

I see a few 300 and 830 sales the first week of cryptsy

Hit 156 today, dropping fast to 100 now.

look at how much BTC itself varies on things like gox. crypto is never going to replace fiat. How current banking system itself is just going to move more digital. hell its hard to go more than credit cards really. easier swiping and quicker pass to online retailers is about all you can do but then its stuff like the google wallet and stuff like that

DOGE has gone mad over the past 24 hours. I don't know where it peaked but it did briefly pass LTC in USD trade volume. Cryptsy unfortunately can't handle the trade volume when this happens.

It's network hash is some ~70GH/s now. I guess everyone wants some before block reward halves.

More good DogeCoin news : Dogecoin raises $30000 for Jamaican bobsleigh team. Hopefully this means we have a Cool Runnings 2 in the making. :p

LOL to everyone who said doge would die. im glad i held my millions, everyday i wake up its worth more and more.

Difficulty heading towards 1000.

Really strange to nearly a quarter the difficulty of litecoin but one thousandth the value (actually less).

I've only got 30k doge..Just started last week..A day late and a doge short lol. Story of my life.

i sold 107k @ 82 and thought it was awesome.. when i woke today.. I found out i missed out on over $40. that was @ 8am EST. :-/

I sold at 135 and still holding a third of my original volume to see where else it goes + mining. Pretty happy where things are going

I screwed up with LTC and learned my lesson (sold it way too early at $10/ea on average). Mining cryptos is either going to change my life or it's not. If I sell as I get, the extra $1000/month I might make is hardly game changing. Therefor I now HODL. My DOGE stash is worth 10BTC today. And that was from three days of mining... I should have just mined it non-stop but who knew?

and how many rigs do you have mining? I took the approach of constantly cashing out for the sake of building more rigs. I'm starting to hold more of what I mine. I'm still going to keep cashing out about half of the DOGE I mine as it comes in.

I don't understand why this crap coin keeps going up but its the most profitable right now by a pretty solid amount. I've sold tons of coins "too early" but I do have pocket change still in a variety of coins to hold longer term

Dude, you don't even know. I bought at 77 the one time, and that was the first crash to 40. I sold at like 44. It went up over 150 the next day. Then I just sold 239k Doge at 46 like 2 days ago. I bet when I buy now it's gonna go down the toilet.

You mined doge for three days and made $8k?

umm... wha?

If you mined from the start, you could have had millions with even just 1mh/s. I read someone got 300k with 60kh/s. That means you could have easily had over 10 million with 1 mh/s.

What if doge becomes the 3rd alt coin? or even surpass Ltc? due to the positive community outlook? Even read that it donated for the Jamaican Bobsled team :)

Then all the haters will maybe stop hating for a bit. You know, the odd thing is with Doge, it's one of the only crypto's other than BTC that is actively being used to actually buy goods (reddit, someone sold a car I think).

I don't know if it's worth building more rigs at this point with scrypt ASICs coming out. I'm thinking about trying to add another 1MH/s, if I can do it via PCIe risers and if the PSUs can take an extra GPU. This way I'm only paying for the GPU itself not along with every other component needed to build the entire rig. I could maybe pull this off with 3x7850s. But overall building new miners is long behind me. Whatever I have I will just continuously run until I cannot profit anymore due to electricity costs. Everything is all paid off so even hardware resale value isn't considered at this point. Just running (electricity) costs.

I'm also similar to you except instead of buying more rigs at this point, I'm just diversifying it back into the crypto market. Like right now DOGE is 100% more profitable than LTC, so it makes sense to mine DOGE, keep half, and put the other into BTC (or even just $ if I feel BTC isn't a good investment at this time).

If done right, it should be way more ROI in the end than buying more GPUs at this point with Scrypt ASICs coming in. I do the same with pretty much any new alt coin - mine, sell off half to match LTC profits, and keep the other half on the house. I'm finding a very common theme here - sell a new coin when it hits an exchange. It's too profitable at first, almost always. Take your profits and buy back more later on if you really like coin, or put it into BTC or fiat.

DOGE just happened to be an exception where I decided to keep literally all of it because I spent so little time mining it.

Hmm I've got 3 LTC. Should I sell and buy doge?

I just bought, so I assume its gonna go down the drain now. The market seems to look at what I do and does the opposite :(

Yeah afaik the only scrypt based coin aside from ltc that's been traded, used and donated frequently.

It might become the 3rd place alt in value and popularity, but it won't overtake LTC.
