TF2 Spy Update!

I don't understand what people hate so much about finding these items randomly? So what as you play you'll pick them up. When BF2 came out folks were outraged that they had to earn the weapons. What is with it not wanting to unlock things this is a tried and true video game method. Most of these weapons aren't game changers anyway. I found like 6 different items this weekend.

The current system doesn't reward anything other than being on a server. Even spectators have a chance of getting items.

Then the fact that you get items you already have is just a slap in the face. It's like your boss walking up to your desk, congratulating you on your efforts and then picking up the stapler off your desk and handing it to you as a reward.

If they just restricted the items gained to only being ones you didn't have, everything would have been fine. Matter of opinion, it would have been perfect as people could just continue playing the classes they are good at while getting the unlocks to enjoy later on in a rather reasonable time. . . or one overnight stay in an idling server.

Very good. If you restrict the items you get to what you don't have, there's no need for a retarded trading system, and people wouldn't be pissed off at getting dozens of duplicates

Even without trading and duplicate items the completely random unlocking system doesn't work. All it did was create idle farming servers for unlocks. They didn't help anything and didn't solve anything. They just created more problems.

They should just own up and go back to the old system. Who gives a shit about achievement farming servers? The game is based on fucking achievements.

With achievements, it was like grinding in an RPG. People liked to work towards their goals and see their progress to a new unlock. It encouraged gameplay. Even if it was on achievement servers - those places were fun and you needed cooperation and teamwork, sometimes from people on opposing sides working together.

At least people were playing and having fun. Now everybody is just idling. I have idled a bit I admit, but that's because I'm utterly sick of this thing.

My briefcase is 60% full and the only new weapon in there is Jarate - the first item I unlocked within 1 minute of the new update. In about 100 hours of gameplay since, I have gotten 3-5 (Each) of all the other old items, bludsauger, axetinguisher, flare gun, etc. So sick of it.

Whats worse of all is that noobs who are just playing or haven't played long get all the weapons fast.

All this update is is to please noobs and say 'Fuck you and your weapon gaining! You will suffer!' to all long time fans of Valve.

thank god i have like 48 flareguns now but nothing new or interesting.

god have mercy.

Jesus and I thought my duplicates were bad! 5 backburners!

I haven't jumped on an idle server yet, mainly because I couldn't get on a single one! With the previous achievement system I didn't even consider going onto achievement servers to farm, but now things are so aimless/random/pointless it's probably fair enough.

Does anyone think the Huntsman looks incredibly out of place and more than a bit effeminate?

Valve are being very quiet on all this, surely they must see that what they have done is a complete disaster?

Join up if you feel like it. Probably doesn't change a thing but some of the comments are very funny. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/giveustf2back

It doesn't matter how Valve does it, people will still whine. It could be the most perfect system in the world and people will still find something to bitch about.

Get over it, it's a video game.

Moaning about moaning, how ironic.

WHYY??

Why didn't anybody else pick up on this? This is what I thought right out of the gates. I have people on my friend's list with ridiculous total damage and most health healed stats, you know what I mean, the 1,264,968 points healed stuff? Why work for what you can get for free. The actions of few dictate the many yet again. Instead of people discouraging the servers, they had their patrons and served their purpose.

Don't get me wrong, I have a few hours invested in the game and never once logged onto an achievement server. I am actually really surprised I haven't read a "come on, who HASN'T logged on to an achievement server!?!?" and then 97% of us would raise our hands. But I actually think Valve gave when they were pushed. I don't think they are getting soft just smart, even if I really don't like it.

tie the achievements to the weapons, make the achievements easier and only available on stock maps. why is this so hard to understand?

OR

give them to everyone, and make them actually have a real equal tradeoff to the counterparts.

OR

if we must have this dumb drop system, at least tie it to some kind of performance measurement instead of just being logged in playing (or idling but i'm sure that will be fixed)

Piss Jar and cloak and dagger left to go.

Got like 5 dead ringers...finally got the huntsman last night while I was sleeping along with 4 other dupe items probably a new record in terms of items per hour, like 5 in 7 hours.

Still no hats for myself but hey maybe I can trade 4 dead ringers for a hat some day....*sarcasm*

Anything they come up with short of locking people into stock maps on unmodified servers. Im betting someone somewhere will figure out a way to get unlocks while you afk. IE load players facing each other, tell em all to type in +fire and go sleep. You'll eventually die, and you'll eventually kill someone.

I'm pretty agitated with this new system. I've played approx. 17 hours since the update arrived and still have not received a single unlock of any kind (old or new). All I have are (1) of each of the unlocks I earned through the old system. I even let my PC sit in one of the those idle servers overnight and was greeted with nothing.

I've been playing this game since the day it came out and I love it and everything Valve has done to improve upon it, however, this update clearly is flawed imo. I read the blog that said people who play a lot will get unlocks faster than those who don't, why then have I not received a single unlock when I play A LOT?

Went 13 hours without items before, but if you're getting into 24 hour range without anything. You might be on a idle server that ain't setup right, no VAC secure.....not pure...has cheats on. Something. And most of them you have to reload the idle map to make the pure take hold.

I'd trade you a Dead Ringer if I could....!

But seriously that's terrible - 17 hours without a sausage!

i went 4 days, each with many many hours (my steam rating went from 0.7 to 10 on day 2... it's very shameful), without anything. then i read a post at the tf2 forum that said to have steam friends enabled. i turned that crap off day 1. i figured it couldnt possibly be that, because valve wouldnt be so stupid, but i turned steamfriends on anyway to amuse myself.

sure enough, 40 minutes into a game, i got something. a duplicate, but still, it's something. 1 hr later got another duplicate.

valve failed miserably this time. i'm pretty sure they did it to please the free weekend tf2 people, if they think they have a new item that most dont have, they might be more inclined to buy the game. afterall, longtime tf2 players are just deadweight loss to valve since they dont make them any more money.

I've idled for about 3 days and nights now. I have all of the new unlocks except for the dead ringer, which is the one I actually want! Oh and I have about 6 ubersaws now.

I hate the new system even more than the old one. At least the old one was in your control.

I couldn't even get TF2 to start yesterday - kept getting "steam ticket expired" or "servers are too busy" errors, and the game never would load.

Now that I'm realizing what this new update entails, I may never play the game again until this is fixed. Achievements/Rewards system is completely backwards/nonexistent, and imo the gameplay itself has become complete chaos. The whole thing just gives me a headache lately.

The only way I would care about unlocking anything new is if the new items are significantly better than the old ones - I don't want equal trade-offs in exchange for hours of my effort! But then, the game becomes really unbalanced for people who haven't unlocked the new stuff yet. Seems like the only solution to this would be to implement some kind of ranked server system. I dunno... the game just seems to be getting less and less fun as it progresses.

all+10000, i feel the smae way, its not even worth it to click tf2 anymore, i got back into cod4, and having lots of fun. Anyways, hopefully they'll fix this. The thing i hate the most is the new symbols, confusing and unuseful. Also the new sniper animation, its f'in annoying.

The symbols are a step backwards. Now I have to translate what they mean, and when a player is dead against a dark background you can hardly see it.

Does valve even do QA?

What new animation? I hate the fact that the bow is on the left side, that's just retarded, imo. They should at least have an option to go righty or lefty like CS.

I think the new symbols suck too. The old system was fine, why fucking fix what ain't BROKEN! It didn't any functionality or make anything look nicer, it just made it unnecessarily confusing.

The games I played this past weekend didn't feel like they used to either. Maybe it's because I haven't played in months, but it was a server I used to frequent daily and it just felt off. Could be because of the update chaos with all the newbies but who knows. I'll give it another shot this weekend, maybe.

There weren't many of the regulars I used to play with on that server either. Could be the time, or the fact that were laying low till update blew over. Oh well.

I'll tell you one thing I fucking HATE. The new death animations. The guy takes 10 seconds to fall down

I'm addicted to this game. Have been playing for several hours each day this past week...

another update came out today and the sniper's bow is still left handed! so annoying.

Ambassador got buffed today to do a full crit on head shot, which was needed to make it an alternative to the old one. I got the ambassador today and got to test it out and I got my football helmet. :D

All I need left are hats and the Ambassador.

After the Dead Ringer nerf, I feel everything is a little more balanced. I still have gripes about though I was literally point blank, fully buffed heavy and some sniper charged his bow for a second, and I was one shotted. WTF?

Also, still think the random drops are dumb. I've been lucky today though. Some of my friends on the otherhand, not so lucky...

I wish there was some kind of advanced movement to this game. All you can do is walk around, jump and aim /w the random chance of doing a critical strike. These new changes, to me, make it seem like the game is heading more towards an RPG FPS?

I guess the years of playing an FPS like quake3/warsow have spoiled me tremendously, hah.

Advanced movement? The scout has double jumps, the soldier has rocket jumps, and the Demo has very versitile sticky jumps(can be as shallow or as deep as you need them to be with practice).

Dodges would sorta be nice but I don't know if leaning would work for this game.

Yeah if only you could compression jump, I'd have something special for those sniper bastards who think they're safe where they are.

Well actually I do that alot as demo but pyro would increase the terror.

Very true. The random drop system was catered for the noob free weekend player. Inevitably this was driven by financial gains. Valve with this new direction have given all the regulars player a big fuck you hand signal. And yes, I know the update was free but really it has destroyed any sense of purpose and direction. The trade system is a dreadful idea, Valve hopefully will retract their masterplan before they totally bollocks up the game for good.

Another 3 days in and not one new item (or dupe for that matter) Still trying for my random, Ambassador, Huntsman, Cloak & Dagger and Razorback... not a single hat yet - do they exist?

Hmn. Little OT, but this thread seems to be appropraite.

Is there any word if Orange Box or TF2 deals will be coming back for those of us who missed both? =\

Theres usually a TF2 related deal that goes on when a new TF2 class or major update is released.

eh, while that may have something to do with it, I also believe it's probably there in part to make others (regulars) try new classes. For instance, I wont play Spy, Sniper or Scout... I just don't really care much for them especially at their base level weapons. However, I'd be more inclined to try them if I had some of thier unlocks.

With that said, I still don't like this system. It was much much more rewarding earning an item from playing the shit out of the game... it feels cheap now that other people are getting these items basicly for free, knowing how much time and effort I put into it. :(

I didn't think of it like that as I play all but the Scout regularly. I think most regular players would be more inclined to play Spy and Sniper more often if there were achievement unlocks connected. I've already seen a downturn in people playing Sniper, soon the thrill of the new weapons will wear off and nobody will care about attaining the achievements.

It's probably too late to turn back now, how do you take weapons away from players once they have them, if Valve do then they will have another set of aggrievied players on their hands. We're set for trading items in some sort of marketplace. The game is getting unnecessarily bloated.

nice of them to tell us after so many days later. i guess it never occurred to them that there are people who turned steamfriends off, and it would've been nice to have an explanation of how the server gives random stuff. uberfail.

ah well, reality calls, i'll probably get to play about an hour a week or so now, so i guess i can't really complain too much anymore
