TF2 Spy Update!

Halfway through those pictures I inadvertantly started cutting myself with a jagged piece of the Orange Box CD.

@ Zellio2009 - LOL, hilarious stuff. Thanks for posting the pictures

wow-1.jpg

Highest level tf2 has gotten before is around 30,00-40,000.

It seems people love the update, when you count the weapons and maps, and not the shitty unlock system...

It's the free weekend plus thousands of AFK sitting in idle servers 24/7

Valve made a huge error/mistake on their part.

Now instead of people grinding the game to "level up" (get achivements) and playing hard (even if it was on achievment servers which took creativity and team-work with other players)...you just have people sitting around doing nothing.

Good job Valve! Terrible idea!

Oooooooooo I see my idle unlock server on there. Took that screenshot sometime around midnight last night as I had to drop back my total number of people cuz the flood of people joining and leaving was making it time out my own client due to it lagging the hell out of it.

It's not a bad system when you figure you can go out and do useful things instead of get pissed off when you get another XYZ item as you play your heart out.

It's funny though, put up one of those servers and unless you're joining before it loads. You'll have 5 people on there before you even get close to getting on there. It's the popular thing to do.

I spent about 9 hours as spectator and got one item, spent 2 hours as spectator and got the dead ringer. Now Im experimenting with sitting on a team idle to see if it gives me any better results or is about the same. If it's the same Im just going to force everyone to spectate and increase the number of people up a bit.

idle servers ftw. i'm in one right now. oh well, at least I'm putting my ram to use. I've been in an idle server for probably 40 hours and have only got like 5 things, only two of those things are the new unlocks from the recent update.

So now its basically impossible to join a server and if you do get in on a 32 server you will notice 10 of the people idling. FTW valve for implementing a new system without working on the consequences. btw I hate servers with reserve slots horrible idea.

I don't get it, I play A LOT of TF2 yet I haven't received any additional achievements since the update came out. I've earned over 50% of the sniper goals and have just played normally waiting for these random drop unlocks to appear but I haven't gotten a damn thing? I only have one of each of the unlocks I earned the "hard way" before the new unlock system went live...

Is there something else I need to be doing? *scratches head*

Be luckier unless you're playing on a non-VAC server.

Everyone is having issues with it. I know when I first loaded up the update I got 2 of the sniper items within 1hour then another 3 random items after that.

The problem is it's still random. Those of us have most of the weapons, so even if we got them every hour, it would still be tons and tons of duplicates.

Stupid ass trade system needs to go.

woot two new updates a reason to play TF2 again since the Spy is the my favorite class

what does playing on a VAC server have to do with it?

thats a real question.... do non-VACs not give out weapons?

Well you can't get achieves on non-vac servers........anything that has cheats on won't give em to you...etc etc. So I decided not to risk wasting a bunch of time on it to find out non-VAC didn't. So far I've gotten 5 items idling in a roughly 20-22 hour period. Playing a little every so often cuz I get bored just seeing the window sit there.

And actually I've gotten LESS items around the time I was active versus when I wasn't doing a thing.

So the system may be broken, but I suspect it's working as intended but the lack of ability to work toward a specific item...which they mentioned they plan on adding. Is making it really stupid for all trying to play on it atm. I don't see the point in a trade system for anything but helmets, and I've yet to see anyone wearing, getting or even claiming they've gotten a helmet (mostly because they'd have to prove it if they want to make that claim then idle on my server un-kicked).

i got a solider helmet yesterday, its black and has some cards on it. i noticed a heavy with a football helmet on.

K So my longest stretch so far without items is 13 hours. And at the end of it I got the bonk drink thing....... not amused.

I love this bow, but it has got to be nerfed soon. Way too powerful- 2 shots takes down a lvl 3 sentry.

Valve will either decrease its power or, more likely, increase reload time.

New system is retarded. Got my 5th kritzkrieg and 4th flare gun and 3 bludsauger today in addition to another 3 KGBs and another Axetinguisher.

Still no new weapons.

Well the whole point of the bow is that it is faster full power draw than sniper rifle. I think maybe Valve would change the range, make it arc more, etc. to take more skill to hit targets like sentries or nerf the power somewhat against engy installations.

Not amused either, got 3 Bonk drinks, 3 ubersaws and 2 kritzs (all of which I had anyway). Just got Jarate, but I prefer the SMG.

I haven't touched AFK servers, what's the point? Valve will surely be sorting out this debacle and soon.

The worst thing for me is my fave Junction server is now Pipeline. Pipeline is a shit fest with no tactics or skill required. It's just rush in a kill, kill, kill. Boring and easy to get to the top, 300 points in an hour.

Completely disagree.

The huntsman is such a downgrade. It's already been reported in a lot of threads. It's extremely fun, but pretty useless compared to the regular sniper. Sure, I can still get a 1:1 or 2:1 KD ratio with it, but with the regular sniper, after only a bit of practice you can easily get a much higher KD ratio.

The huntsman is terrible at long range, and therefore you have almost no chance of killing enemy snipers before they pop you in the head. And it's terrible at close range if the enemy is slighty competent and doesn't walk in a straight line.

1. Bullets flying in a straight line > arcing arrows
2. Instant hit bullets > lag time for arrows
3. A lot of ammo > 12 arrows
4. Scope > no scope (when you need long range kills)
5. Infinite charge up > bow charge up that screws with your aim if you hold it too long

Sure, its really fun, but it needs a buff. It definitely needs more arrows, needs to shoot faster, and arrows need to travel faster. It also might help if you didn't lose all your mobility when you start charging an arrow, it makes it too easy for snipers to kill you. Obviously not all of these need to be implemented, but some combination would make it a sidegrade to the regular sniper rifle.

There are a lot of people claiming that it's better than the regular sniper, but I'd be willing to bet most of those people were downright terrible at using the rifle and gave up on it immediately. Either that or they play on pretty crappy servers with a bunch of W+M1 pyros. It would be one thing if you couldn't no-scope people to death really easily with the orignal weapon, but since you can, it makes the huntsman rather useless.

Note: This is coming from someone who has 15 hours with the regular rifle and 15 hours with the bow.

Obviously never used the Sandman/Baseball... it's the same concept...

I've hit snipers from across the map with it... you just can't let them see you when you do it... :)

At the start of goldrush as an Attacker I bonked a sniper who was at the 1st building... I had enough time to run to the cabinet, grab another ball, and bonk him again... I went for a 3rd time but he managed to gain control and run and hide by the time I launched the 3rd... haha...

I don't understand what people hate so much about finding these items randomly? So what as you play you'll pick them up. When BF2 came out folks were outraged that they had to earn the weapons. What is with it not wanting to unlock things this is a tried and true video game method. Most of these weapons aren't game changers anyway. I found like 6 different items this weekend.

They changed the system to get rid of achievement servers, now, they just have idle servers.

The spy watches can COMPLETELY change the way you play as a spy. The cloak and dagger can damn near give you domain over an area until you finally piss them off enough for the entire team to go pyro and smoke your ass.

And the Dead Ringer. Not being able to initiate cloak unless damaged forces you to actually blend in and cycle disguises. That is, atleast until the enemy team catches on and starts patrolling an area until they they see TWO dead spy bodies. That can also work out for you though by simply disguising as your team when you're transitioning from cover. The DR forces you to change your disguise alot and it definately helps if you know where the hiding spots in a map are because the cloak doesn't last long at all.

Can't really comment on the sniper unlocks though, I have no experience with em since THEY WON'T DROP FOR ME! :( Well cept the jarate but who'd give up their SMG for that?

Jarate is good. Really good. Aside from increasing damage done, which really helps if a heavy or something is hitting them, it also does:

- Puts out fires, yourself included. Nice if you get hit with a flare gun, or if an ally is about to die.
- Fucks around with the enemy's vision. It may just be the free weekend, but lots of people tend to freak out and get themselves killed due to it.
- Regenerates. Self-explanatory.

I like it a lot more than SMG. SMG damage is horrible, it's practically useless now that we have no-scope headshots.

The other sniper unlocks basically suck IMO. I cannot aim for shit with the huntsman, and the razorback is useless because enemy spies can see it.

i don't understand the sniper's bow. its to be able to kill on the move, correct? but now that we have a cross hair on the sniper rifle when not zoomed in, then we're now able to use the sniper rifle while moving around not zoomed, so I don't get the point of the bow.

The point is to make a sniper more agile, and move closer to the front line of battle. With a bow and arrow, you aim, shoot, while moving. You can dart in and out of corners easily. Arrows are harder to hit targets, but you yourself are also harder to hit.

And most characters who surprise you can easily be killed close up.

Plus setting the arrows on fire is fun to do. Just puff the sniper who has it drawn and loose the flaming arrows to set your targets on fire with a bit more accuracy than the flare gun. Although it doesn't count as an assisted kill which is pretty stupid.

Neat to see though.

the razorback is useless, jarate. meh.

I really really wish we could switch the position of the huntsman, I hate viewing as a lefty.

I think the razorback will get tuned. It's effect is pretty small considering it's a one time save type deal. Should stun the spy, make them unable to cloak, or something similar. I could see a car battery shorting out their watch.

The speed reduction on it didn't appear to go away when the razorback was destroyed. Which is a really stupid thing. So you're still slow, without a machinegun, and without the protection of the razorback unless you run back to refill it.

Jarate is more useful atm. I don't have it, but I've seen it put the fires out. It makes the enemy take more damage and messes with their vision. But it ALSO turns disguised spies yellow, so it's really obvious they are a spy if you splash them with it and they get discolored and remain so. I also wouldn't mind seeing it disable sappers temporarily. Be fun to watch the spy sap it, backstab the engineer, jar of piss hits in the sentry and then it kills the yellow stained spy.

i understand now, I just played with it for an hour, i killed 3 or 4 guys at a cp which was sweet, went 19-7. it really shines if your in an area where enemy are coming around the corner at the right range. like 20-30 feet. not too far, not too close (close as in pyro range)

You forgot the most important feature - it reveals spys. I threw a jarate and killed a spy but when his dead ringer cloaked his real body, the piss was somehow still around and his deadringer cloak was foiled as well and I killed that one too.
