TF2 scout update!

i think the stun is too long from short range. as a heavy, i got stunned from a few feet away, then he closed and shotgunned me to death from full health. Kind of sucks spending all that time running just to be stunlocked.

--edit- oh, i'm working on heavy unlocks, its taken about 3 hrs and i have 9 of them done.

I agree 1000% stun locks have no place whatsoever in a multi-player FPS. At least not TF2.

One good pyro and two decent engineers can make the the flag nearly impossible to take on 2fort with out an uber. All the pyro has to do is stay near the dispensers and turrets and randomly flame all over the place and spies can't hardly do shit to take down the defenses. And blow stickies away from turrets. Provided the pyro and engies know what they are doing. It typically takes an uber to break that. Now we have the defensive scout, his job is to stun ubers, and back up the pyro on spy and demo killings. If 4 decent players on each team do that, then 2fort, and most other CTF maps, are going to end as a stalemate 99% of the time.

Thats when you have to do an Uber Rush. They take quite a bit of work to put together, but damn they can push the enemy really far back if done right!

i only play about 1-2 hours a week....

Yeah, but now an uber rush can be broken by the scout's stun lock as long as he has a couple sentries and a pyro to back him up. The stun lock really destroys the games balance. That is all I was trying to say.

The energy drink makes you INVULERNABLE. For example, you can rush past sentries to the second point virtually unnoticed (if you're crafty enough), and can then try for a ninja cap. At the very least, you can harass their spawn (destroy teleporters or kill enemies fresh out of spawn) and help weaken their defense at the first point.

Spies can do the same thing, yes, but they don't have the ability to KO classes for a few seconds, nor have the Scout's agility and speed, nor the scattergun/FAN ...

But you still get knocked back by sentries and such when under the effects of the drink, you can't pick up ANYTHING or shoot, and someone always just follows you waiting for you to slow down since you don't run any faster while under the effects of the drink it's not hard to catch up with you and own you.

yup... the drink seems perfectly balanced IMHO... since the scout's pistol was mostly hard to use correctly also....

seriously... just get rid of the baseball stun on ubers and the scout update is just fine...

Like I said before, this update gives less of a reason to play medic. Ubers were something to look forward too. Medic is my second most played class and loads of my ubers have been stunned. Pretty much I end up being a walking healing dispenser.

Then play the game more. I've seen the energy drink be a key to victory in several servers.

I haven't. I've played 12 hours the past couple days. It doesn't bother me. Just the fact that I keep getting stunned while I'm doing an uber for somebody. That's LAME

Be patient. Valve has shown a proven track record when it comes to something the community doesn't like - they make a concerted effort to solve problems in gameplay.

Well, four people working on defense that well is about as common as four people on offense working together well, so it somewhat balances out. I mean if you were to handpick offense and strats, you could have two medics do kritzkrieg + uber (with doing the double uber trick) on two soldiers. Sure you could deflect some of the rockets and stun some of the offenders, but all it takes is one rocket to make it through.

But I do agree stunlock isn't a great thing for an FPS like TF2.

Its usually the entire enemy team turtling and when that happens someone always gets lazy and leaves a hole in the defense or a sentry under lax guard. And thats where solo demos/soldiers come in.

I hope the ball gets nerfed. Forget ubers, I'm sick of being stunned at all.

This isn't an RPG, I gave up on WoW pvp due to the god awful stunlocks. Leave stuns out of shooters please for fucksake!

Good for you, I haven't. If one scout running around for 5 seconds invulnerable can win a game, then they didn't have any defenses anyway. Im guessing your taking about a ninja cap on a CP map.

Since bullets don't pass through the Bonk'd scout, they can make sentries stupidly easy to take down; especially if the sentries are in hallways. But that does require coordination between the scout and one other player.

But don't medics usually run forward in front of their uber target to absorb the force anyway?

I can see this potentially helping with stacked sentry placement that would send single ubers flying though.

I assume when a scout is bonked, they can't be pyro blasted either?

Why do I feel like this is becoming a overly complicated game of rock paper scissors?

I can't fucking WAIT for the demo upgrade. To justify all this scout stuff they're probably gonna give us flashbangs, napalm grenades, airstrikes, dynamite, and a freaking MOAB.

Oh yeah? Well my kritz'd ubered bonked scout beats your MOAB

yes please give demoman new perks. like the ability for his grenade launcher to randomly jam and blow himself up. :p

Anyone else get weird startup issues and crashes on exit with this game? I'm getting a HL2.exe error on exit - no game breaker but annoying all the same.

The startup issues are random, blank/black picture and an image that quickly flickers behind it. Sometimes going to Task Manager, then clicking on the Team Fortress 2 tab corrects it but sometime not.

I also get a program not responding in the Task manager when selecting servers on the odd occasion.

Come to think of it I think HL2 used to exhibit similar issues on exit, which should point me in the direction of the Source engine? Anyone know how to fix the issues?

Love the game, pure simple multiplayer fun.

This baseball stun is getting out hand. It's way overpowered and has no place in this game. Whom ever came up with this idea needs to be fired.

I don't know any difference but the Scout's baseball stun is pretty annoying and they seem to be able to hit you from ridiculous angles and distance

A lot of this has to do with so many people playing scout to get the achievements. Give it a few weeks, you'll get back to one or two scouts a side and stun balls will be few and far between.
The stun ball is annoying, perhaps a bit too powerful for a light class like the scout, but I really don't see it being all that big of a deal once people settle back into their normal classes. I played as a soldier for a few hours over the weekend, maybe died a couple (two or three) times to a scout's stun ball, and that's with 3 or 4 scouts on a 10 man team.
Scout's don't play a lot of defense, the achievement whores are hanging around sentry guns to block the ubers, but those will fade quickly and the main complaint of blocking the sentry killing uber run with them.

I do too. It doesn't mess anything up, but every time I exit I get that error that hl2.exe isnt responding or something like that.

If you play on servers like the ones I do, with good players, it makes a large difference. Especially when you get shit like every uber being stopped with a baseball. You really think that's balanced?

Last night I think we had an avg of 2 scouts on either side. This was over a period of hours.

I wish I could find servers with good players. I ubered SEVERAL people last night, 5 or 6 of them didn't kill a single person while ubered. They charged and ran around shooting at random people and didn't kill any buildings or people. I HATE people wasting my ubers!

Using your microphone helps. Ask who wants to be ubered; if they respond and they're the right class for the job, go from there. Ubering non-communicative teammates can be rather counterproductive (as you found out) ...

I do, most people love being ubered n want me to, so I look at the stats and find the highest scoring of the people and uber them. Only to find out it was a mistake. I'm getting WAY too much practice as a medic, because just about every server I go to, out of the 16 players, there will be zero medics. Easy to stay in the top 3 scores when your a medic, but after hours of playing medic it gets kinda boring. :)

+1 to that
nothing like getting an uber when im out of ammo completely or need to spend 10 seconds reloading

i get crash on exit fairly often as well w/ vista64.

Maybe 1v1 isn't the right way to balance the classes, but with a minimum damage of 85 on the scattergun, it takes 4 shots to kill a 300hp heavy. Do i need to run around with my shotgun active to have a chance? i lose 2 seconds for spinning up the minigun twice and by then i'm pretty much dead. not to mention spinning it up makes me an easy target for the stun. i'm new to the heavy, but is there a strategy i'm missing?

What's your steam name?
points usually mean nothing, just to see who's been on the server longest.

[H]RAMBOIAN or RAMBOIAN. I've only been playing 1.5 weeks, but it's pathetic how bad some guys are. Oh well, I suck at most classes, and those guys could have been playing classes they havent played before. I only have time playing engie, medic, heavy, and sniper. I've played rounds with everything else, but only ten minutes or so. I'm going to start playing scout n pyro some to learn them. I'm getting tired of being a medic every game.

The easiest way to defeat a scout to be a pyro. Just light them up as they are running around and let them die. Most medics wont even bother healing a scout because they are too hard to keep up with. I was on a server last night with 6 scouts on the opposing team. Couldn't tell the amount of innumerable scout calls "Doc! Help! I'm Burnin'"
