Hi,
Before I start, I want to say I am positing this under the video card section because I still think that may be the problem. However, I cannot confirm this. I already made one thread, but in light of new details and information I wanted to start fresh. I will try to be as clear and detailed as possible in hope of solving this.
I am officially at my wits end with this, it is driving me nuts and I need some possible suggestions. I can't even do an RMA on any hardware part because I can't get a single error or bad test on anything. It is like my computer is haunted.
Please Help!
Before I start, I want to say I am positing this under the video card section because I still think that may be the problem. However, I cannot confirm this. I already made one thread, but in light of new details and information I wanted to start fresh. I will try to be as clear and detailed as possible in hope of solving this.
Problem:
Computer "soft freezes" from time to time (randomly). What I mean by soft freeze is that I can still move the mouse, and within 1 minute or so I can pull up task manager with ctl+alt+del. A hard reset is not required.
Problem typically happens while gaming, but has also happened during firefox use. I do not know if is is the same problem or two separate issues. After hitting "end process" about 5 times everything unfreezes and my game typically keeps going and I can play.
System Specs:
- Windows 7 64-bit Professional
- Intel Core I7 860 Quad-Core Socket LGA1156 @ 2.80 GHz
- Antec TP-750 Truepower 750W Continuous Power Supply
- Corsair XMS3 Classic 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz
- ASUS P7P55D LE Motherboard
- Western Digital VelociRaptor (WD1500HLFS) 150GB SATA 10000RPM 16MB Cache
- Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM SATA 1000GB
- Samsung SyncMaster 2443BW 24" LCD Monitor
- BFG GeForce GTS 250 1GB Video Card
- Ben-Q X-730 Pro Wireless Keyboard/Logitech G5 (2nd Gen) Gaming Mouse
What I have tried to remedy the problem (none of which has worked or found a solution):
1. OS: downloaded all available update and service packs
2. Processor: Ran two separate stability tests. Both have zero issues and stability is perfect. Temperature is will within normal range, fan works.
3. Power: Supply running fine, fan working. Temperature within normal range
4. RAM: Mem Test both sticks. No errors. Both running fine and computer recognizes them correctly
5. Motherboard: Newest 1408 Bios updated. Temperature within normal range
6. Hard Drive: HD Tune tests and manufacturer tests. No bad sectors, no warnings, no errors. Running fine.
7. Graphics Card: Originally I thought I was maxing out the card and it was causing my system to freeze, or perhaps it is over healing. I have been running GPU-Z to monitor temp and load. The card has never reached 100% load, nor has it ever used more than 750MB of the available 1 GB of RAM
This problem has happened when RAM use was at about 500MB and GPU load was at about 30%. Highest temp the card has ever reached is 68 C, and the fan has never even had to go past 60%
I have run both the 3D Mark Benchmark and ATI Tool to try and re-create the error. Neither was able to and both finished without a problem.
I have lowered my game setting from 1920 all the way down to 1200 and scaled down the in game settings.
The thing is I ran my game (World of Warcraft) at 1920x1024 resolution and all settings on ultra from January until May without a problem...
I am officially at my wits end with this, it is driving me nuts and I need some possible suggestions. I can't even do an RMA on any hardware part because I can't get a single error or bad test on anything. It is like my computer is haunted.
