Check your e-mail, they must have sent a new wave because I just got an invite one hour ago.

I had a blizzcon08 ticket.

edit: The game did not automatically show up in my battle.net account. They e-mail you another key to add/upgrade your account.

Ironically if you bought a Blizzcon ticket just to get the beta key, it would be cheaper than buying it on e-bay, kekeke.

As far as I can tell, Blizzard hasn't sent out a second wave of invites. I got my key on day 1 and I have yet to see the population go up significantly. It's always under 2000 online (I don't think I've ever seen it much above 1700). I would guess between employees, employee friend invites, Blizzcon vouchers, and first wave opt-in that there are less than 5000 keys in all for the US, probably significantly less. EU has their own set and as far as my EU GM friend and I can tell, there is no way to play with a friend overseas (for the beta at least, there'll probably be a realm chooser like in all Blizzard games for final release).

I would imagine the next round of invites are going to be much larger, an order of magnitude larger, as Blizzard tests the new (and rather craptacular) b.net under stress.
 
Got my key from my friend at Blizzard about 30 minutes ago, FRIENDS AND FAMILY INVITES ARE OUT!

Downloading client right now, GOODBYE SLEEP :D
 
BTW, downloading from Fileshack right now, the Blizzard downloader is getting hammered at the moment, it would take all night
 
Yeah it sucks owning all of their games, having an old wow account with a high level original character. Other wow players take precedence because they bought both of the expansions... Oh well, replays are really enjoyable.

I've heard that most opt-ins that get the beta are overwhelmingly people with active WoW accounts. Might not be true but it could be. I don't care that much but I do want to play badly.

I have never and will never play WoW, and I've been playing the SC2 Beta for 7 days now. There is no trick...you either get in or you don't.
 
I just got in. Its annoying there doesn't seem to be a "try against the CPU first" mode. I'm a little frustrated that I'm going up against someone who obviously knows the original Starcraft and its tech trees like the back of their hand, even at the "5 warm up matches". Not all of us are Korean professionals or have played Starcraft this millennium, so I'd appreciate some place to practice that doesn't involve getting my ass handed to me by another live player, or letting down a partner.
 
Wow everyone is getting in! I feel like I want to play so badly that I'm some how making it not happen for my self. Well I'll be sure to check my email again tomorrow!

I'm not in beta but I know there is a way to play against the computer AI.

If I had to guess the method would be to setup your own game and make a player slot into a computer player..

Its real easy to play against AI. On the multiplayer screen, there is a box for Custom Games on the lower right. Press "Create A Game", select a map, click "create game", click the "+AI" button at the top, done!

Enjoy! I find that the best way to learn build orders and macros and such is to watch livestreams of good players. TeamLiquid.net has numerous streams, all very helpful.
 
BTW, SUPER fun game. Everyone that is a fan of Starcraft should get a chance to play the beta. Its a drag that it is so limited right now. The majority of people that go to Blizzcon are WoW players, which is why you have so many WoW players having an easier time getting in via invite key instead of Starcraft fans that have to hope to get in randomly via opt-in.

My advice if you're waiting is to watch livestreams on TeamLiquid.net and sc2gg.com. The players are extremely good (all either platinum or gold leagues), have little or no attitude or ego, and are very honest about what they did wrong, what they could have done better, etc etc. Its a really good way to learn because the unit and race balance is COMPLETELY different from Brood War.

I am primarily a Protoss player, I never played Zerg, but I'd honestly feel more comfortable with Zerg than Protoss in SC2 (I'm still playing Protoss). Terrans used to be the most straightforward race, now IMHO they are among the most complicated. Zerg are much easier and Protoss unit balance has severely shifted (early units are weaker but can build faster thanks to the Nexus special ability).

The point is that unit and race balance is different from the first game. I'm still getting my head around it (and I'm getting used to the new keyboard shortcuts, etc :)), there is much balance work to be done (Zerg roaches are insanely powerful for such an inexpensive low tier unit), but its awesome. :D

Anyway, I cross fingers that most of you get keys (not all of you, most of you ;))
 
Hmm, I have an Active WoW and still have not been invited to beta but their are like 11 million people with an active WoW account so *shrug*. Sigh...... Can't wait to be selected.

If I get a key I'll play with you, I've never been very good (I think I played a total of maybe 8 games of SC online before I got frusterated...I lost all of them).

Thanks for the info. I'll check out some of the YouTube channels...I was watching original SC "how to" vids last week as I've never had much strategy, I really would like to be decent at the game though.

I want a beta key soo bad! :D

I have no chance since I don't own any Blizzard game. My only hope I have is if Fileplanet somehow finds a way to jump in.
 
Man, I've got a ton of sick days ready for this game. Or a beta invite, whichever comes first :)

The wait makes me want to play through the original SC again. Would probably have to mess with it to not expand in widescreen, good old 640x480.

So, on my break I pulled up the HD Starcraft guy's page and watched one of his videos (I didn't have any sound on). Methinks the video is sped up because it was moving so fast I couldn't figure out what was going on. Mayhaps sound would help...if it wasn't sped up and he's really just that fast...I am forever screwed.
 
I got my SC2 Beta invite last Wednesday. Didn't even notice I had it until this weekend...

Played a few games, got stomped as usual, won one of the three I played. The AI is not a challenge at all right now, even when stacked 3 to 1 (3 AI, one player). This is because currently the only setting for AI opponents is "Very Easy". I am hoping that will change though. I never really enjoyed the competitive play in SC outside of a LAN setting, and played the 2v6ai much more back in the early days.

Anyway, we'll see how things shape up. I can't even tell apart some of the units yet. :confused:

Can't believe I forgot to opt-in when I got home last night...again. This time, I write a reminder note on my hand.
 
Thanks for the note about making a CPU AI game. I was under the impression that customs were locked out unless I wanted to be dumped into the regular ladder and skip my "warm up" matches. Thanks.
 
Yeah team liquid has a great replay section, I've watched over 60 so far.
