Starcraft 2 Beta

Any opt in that has windows 7 64bit? I have a feeling it's not random, and they're doing it by computer specs.

windows 7 64bits, 4gigs, i7-860, 5870ati!!! what you all got who got in?

windows 7 home premium 64 bit

4 gigs

e8500

ati 4850

more hard drives than any of you could ever dream of.

Also, they never sent me a "key" to get in, it seems to be tied to my battle.net account, and I am supposed to be able to log into the game using that. Will not get a chance to test it till later tonight, but this is tied to your wow account too, so it makes it far less enticing to give away.

So you guys got BETA keys from 'opt in'?

Just send me yours so i can verify =)

But darn was hoping that theory held true to make me feel better, they better send me a key soon or i'm going to go crazy. What sucks is the WOW account that I used and actually played was a friends account he gave to me, so the names don't match so I didn't opt in w/ that. I opted in with my first account that probably had no activity since Molten core days.

Since I can't tell if you're serious or not:

if you have a Blizzard product linked to your battle.net account you can 'opt-in' for betas.. if you get picked then your account gets the sc2 beta linked. There isn't actually a key..

I have a new system but when I opted in I let them scan with WinXP and the stuff that is currently in my sig. I did get in.

I'd recommend opting in with the PC that is closest to their minimum requirements. got a key and opted in with a AMD X2 4400+ and 7950GT. gaming PC is actually an E8500 and 4870

I highly doubt it makes any difference at all. In fact I bet all the system specs are for is to ensure you can actually play it at all and nothing more. Realistically as long as you meet the min specs its probably 100% random.

Didn't make it in this round, seems like some good people did though. What do you guys think of being able to assign units/buildings to the bar on the bottom?

I can't believe that no one that is in beta right now has taken any screenshots for us to enjoy and salivate. GEEZZZ

Can a kind soul please share their sc2 enabled battle.net account with me :p
I'm trustworthy and you'll naturally get priority.

Thanks I just want to see some more of the actual play that we will see

Strange how rusty we can become after over TEN YEARS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

those toddlers kicked my #$% left and right. I won my third game though, poor guy was even worse than I am. Also getting a bit better.

Just got in woot! It's killer, and what a throwback to the old days. I had forgotten how different from WC3 this is, esp w/o creeps and heroes. Runs super smooth as expected.

Massing marines seems to be a little overpowered right now.

Terrans are pretty strong right now. And this was before the last two patches, both of which buffed already strong early game terrans.

Tell me about it. I never really played SC seriously but I was very serious with WC3 so the whole no hero thing is throwing me for a loop. Playing Protoss and getting my ass KICKED.

opposite for me, I HATED warcraft III maps with the hero system, much better on custom maps.

For the same reason, the greatest interim rts game after the original starcraft was Age of Mythology (disagree on that and we have a problem!)

I dunno, I feel like we did the next best thing by linking people on Youtube that upload 1080p direct feeds. :)

Here's one guy in case you missed it, very good player: http://www.youtube.com/hdstarcraft

Almost as good as running it on your own machine!

Now now, let's not lie to people. Running it on your own system is like waking up with an imax screen as your monitor/tv. I used to think it did not matter if I played the beta or not, that my life would be just the same, I was wrong. Know this betaless, your lives are nothing but shadows of what ours are.

kidding...

Best advice I can give as far as generic builds go:

8/10 - Pylon, then send that Probe to scout the other team
12/18 - Gateway
14/18 - Pylon + Assimilator

Keep pumping out probes, keep hitting that Chrono Boost on your Nexus as much as possible, pump out 3 or 4 zealots, then a Cybernetics core/2nd Gateway/2nd Assimilator, research Warp Gate, morph both Gates when you can, then start pumping out Stalkers.

If I see that the other player is Protoss, I'm much more likely to initially skip all tech and go for a pure Zealot rush. Put all money towards getting two gates up and cranking out Zealots. You can have 8 up in no time, and it seems to work against Protoss pretty often.

I only started doing this after getting Zealot rushed twice in a row, btw. :)

I hate rush games but it seems like the way to go with PvP. In any case, if the rush does fail you can always readjust and go tech pretty quickly.

This has been far too effective a tactic for quite some time (even before the terran buffing patch). I'm surprised it's taken this long for people to really start abusing it.

Zerg can counter it with banelings, but with many counters that I have complaints about, it requires much more foresight and micro vs. terrans robotically following a script and attack-moving. If I mess up microing and my banelings don't hit and take out enough marines, I'm completely screwed. If I've survived long enough for burrow, things are slightly easier (however un-burrow + 'asplode still has a delay).

As Protoss, Sentries are of course the key, but with recent Protoss Gateway nerfs and Terran Barracks buffs, it just seems like an uphill battle to me. I seem to be put on the defensive which allows the Terrans board control far too easily. I haven't tried the offensive Assimilator technique but I imagine it would be great against an M&M rusher.

Terran vs. Terran of course you can just do the same right back to them. I tend turtle up and fast tech to Hellions though because just one or two of them covered by a few marines will demolish a marine masser hilariously fast.

Hey guys Cat here,

I was wondering to see what you guys think. Would a Nvidia 9300GS and 9400M struggle playing this game? Thanks

My laptop has a 9400M paired with a 2.4GHz C2D. I get about ~30 FPS in 1280x800 medium settings.

I never got into WarCraft 3 seriously due to the lameness of creeps & hero units. Give me RTS, not RTS+RPG-lite! I was very heavy-duty on StarCraft 1 though :D!

I haven't played any game yet where marines seemed overpowered. Zealots tear up marines and zerglings are pretty strong against them as well.
There are also higher tier counters to marines, such as the Raven's seeker missiles, Colossi, and Ultralisks.

Welp, im pretty excited i got very lucky and I met someone online from a blizzard forum that had gotten a spare key and gave it to me for free he's not a crazy starcraft fan so it didnt really bother him. I haven't gotten a chance to play too much since this weekend was very busy as I had a drag race this weekend. However, I've gotten to play the first 5 practice matches and my first placement match, ive played only as protoss so far and the game is a blast to play. I'm running completely maxed and its running perfectly smooth I've only done 1vs1's though so far.

Incase you are wondering how does your pc compare I'm running:
1680 x 1050
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz
3.5GB of Memory
8800 GT 512mb

On the one week night i played only 2000 players were on but I jumped on did a match yesterday and 8000 players were on.

While I can't deny the effectiveness, early worker/harassment tactics like that are just about the lamest thing ever.

you're kidding right? this is an ongoing tactic of every match worth playing, and the first thing you should ever learn to counter. you'd better stock up on lube if you're going to get upset over this kind of strategy, any good player would take the first chance possible to fuck with your economy, and if you're vulnerable from the beginning then that's when it's going to happen.

I really think this whole opt-in system is broken or retarded. I opted in the first day you could. I called my friend 2 weeks ago, who is addicted to WoW and asked him if he opted in for SC2 beta. He hadn't yet so I told him to go do it. What do you know Wave 3 comes last week and he is one of the first people to get in, what really ticks me off is his PC is a clone of mine same hardware and os.

Does anyone here, that got in know, if your Bnet account can be logged WoW in one location and SC2 in another? From what I know for now is that WoW isn't officially on Bnet 2.0 so I think it would work.

Any EYEFINITY owners or Matrox TH2G playing the beta ? How does it play across triple screens ?
