Speakers?

@Odin75,

Yeah, I know. I mean, if you follow his posts, he seems to like to ask (at the very least) difficult questions that seem pretty outlandish. Depending on your definition of "trolling", it either is based off that or not. If you ask me, he likes seeing the kinds of answers he can get from a group of obviously knowledgeable people who just never think that way.

I mean, jhstuckey, bravo for approaching things the way you do, but no matter what in this case, you're dealing with a subjective topic and seem to want a factual answer. You won't get it, and getting upset with people for providing you with subjective responses isn't too wise overall.

Having said that, I wouldn't know how to answer you myself, though I am curious about why you'd want to get a different set of speakers if you listen to a stereo in another location for enjoyment and do not use your computer to the same end. So is this just an attempt at getting some kind of answer?

Please stay on topic.

Shit... Just get a DAMN headphone if you don't have the space... The more I read this thread the more it makes me angry. This is just insane. I wonder how you solve problems. You are insisting to have the BEST sound in a minimal space, GET A PAIR OF HEADPHONES! For Christ's sake, this is not rocket science.

LOL, but seriously, why do people insisting to buy speakers? Although I own BOTH speakers and headphones, I can't say there is no difference, but the difference is minimal. If he WANTS THE BEST SOUND, and HE DOESN'T HAVE THE SPACE, then GET HEADPHONES!

Thunder, you made my day with the wink :D

I think what you are looking for is called Ipod.

I don't think they have many devices based on what you want. It would have to be makeshift, or just take a 2.0 configuration, set the balance one way, and slap it in the center of your desk.

Does anything get recorded in mono anymore? Just curious, because I really don't know. If it does, then I could see wanting a single speaker. But most audio tracks I hear are stereo. An example that comes to mind is Pink Floyd - Money. At the beginning, across my speakers I hear Left channel, then Right, and so forth. Unless you intend to bridge the channels into one, you may miss a lot.

I could just be rambling though.

Please stay on topic.

Please learn to use message boards, why are you re-editing your first post to (badly) distill the contents of the thread and outline people's opinions in it?

First of all, do some research before arguing ad nauseum... You posed some good questions for which answers aren't hard to find, and instead of listening to the answers as they were provided you decided to ignore all the arguments and look into Bose speakers, of all things, lol. The space between your monitor is more than enough space to create good stereo imaging if you're using the proper set of speakers...

It's not like it's even very hard to test the concept yourself anyway. Music is recorded and encoded in stereo for a reason. Try hearing it in mono even with the cheapest set of speakers and you can probably tell the difference within seconds. Moving on, large bookshelf-type speakers might not be your best bet with limited space, but smaller near field monitors (many of which were already mentioned in the thread already) will create that effect admirably. If you really have like no desk space at all for the speakers you can go for something like the Audioengine A2, which are barely any larger than some of those Bose models but they're much better designed and constructed.

If you have the space for it, slightly larger monitors like the M-Audio AV40 or Swan 1080 will perform a little better... Slightly larger cabinets just allow for a better speaker design. Again, if you don't want to take our word for it then do some research into speaker design and it will all be painfuly obvious.

P.S. Oh and whomever told you that you need speakers on opposite ends of the room for proper stereo imaging is probably an idiot, but my guess is you're mis-representing someone's comments like you've done through much of this thread. Good luck with your hunt for a speaker set though!

You mean that isn't what near-field means? :D

Can't we just accept that he's a troll and ban him somehow? He's wasting the general goodwill of the community with these contrived theoretical "what-if" questions to try and make himself sound clever and doesn't seem to have any real interest in real-world solutions.
