Skyrim Modding Megathread

Ah, sounds likely. I use Wrye Bash so I don't know much about NMM.

If you are using the RL 3.3 version, try using the 3.2 version instead.

I am using RL 3.3. I saw he posted an updated Jar Patcher and downloaded that and now the corrupt plugin message disappeared and and the settings are noticeable.

I'm getting some really bright, intense fog over streams. Anyone else find that?

Hi. i have been downloading mods from the nexus website and also use there nexus mod manager to organise and load my mods.

However, now with this steam works thing, how does it work now? If i launch skryim directly from steam and not mod manager, does it still load up all my mods?

One thing i did try was to download some mods using steam works and launch the nexus mod manager. The Mod Manager did not display any of the mods from steamworks?

Does this mean i may potentially have to re-download all of the mods from steamworks in order for it to launch skyrim with the mods i used before? Or vice versa, re-download all the steamwork mods from nexus in order to launch skyrim with steamwork mods from nexus manager?

How do you run SKSE mod from steam? That is needed for the SkyUI mod.

Thanks in advance and have a nice valentines day with your missus

Run the Skyrim launcher to download/update the mods you subscribe to in the workshop. Then you can either run skse loader or launch it from NMM. At least that's how I've been doing it and I haven't had any issues.

I think you can run both as normal. The Steam Workshop thing just does the same as manually extracting the mods, but streamlines it into a one-click sort of deal. As long as the ESM/ESP files are enabled (for the mods you downloaded from the nexus) in data files/NMM, it'll work normally. Just launch with SKSE as normal, assuming you're using SkyUI.

I'm avoiding the Steam workshop entirely. I much prefer Nexus and the Mod Manager.

SW is a cludgy PoS compared to the Nexus/NMM combo. If I find new stuff on SW, I usually look it up on the Nexus. :D

This. I don't see any reason to use the Steam Workshop at this point. Nexus is easier to navigate and NMM makes installing and uninstalling quick, painless, and easier to manage.

Exactly.

Couldn't care less about SW. I have no intentions of using it.

I agree. I'm still waiting to hear about mods getting auto updated and end up causing save game corruption unfindable CTDs or an unplayable game. heheh

If its too good to be true, it usually is.

Mid day in a snowy or foggy area is indeed VERY intensely bright. I've left it, as i recall when i was in the mountains and there was snow everywhere on a sunny day it was hard to look at the snow because of how bright it was.

I'm using RL too, and love it quite a bit!, but am curious about this DoF shenanigans.... What in this sample picture is being effected exactly? The mountains in the back?

Yeah the background. I guess it is more of a BoF (Blur of Field) than DoF. :p Until SKGE (OBGE) makes a dynamic DoF then I'll probably stick with the BoF, which is from the game itself. I so want OBGE's Bokeh shader transferred over.

Oh and to fix the fog and snow problems, you will need to play with the lum2 and sunlight settings in the ini. Since there isn't a real adaptive HDR shader (besides ENB), getting a balance is hard since snow is white, yet a lot of textures are much darker.

You mean the bright bluish fog at night, right?

Pretty sure it's your Dragon Warrior Effects mod.

I got the same thing using ENB Series.

I'm using Realistic Lighting (3.31) with no post-processing injector and don't have it any more.

I've disabled Dragon Warrior Effects and I'm using RL 3.3.1 and FXAA (only for sharpening.) It's during the day, right above this stream outside of Whiterun.

Whoa, that's nuts! Gotta be some combination of your mods not working together nicely.

Maybe try BOSS to reorder your mods?

Has anyone seen any mods which do or plan to rework the stats on gear? They are sooo incredibly boring :(

All i get on my mage is mana regen. That's it. Just stack mana regen until i have enough to cast everything i want. Wish there was some spell damage, or various other effects. But there's really not anything to it.

The Deadly Dragons mod also adds some new, interesting gear that is obtained by new drops from the dragons that you then can use to craft it. It feels balanced to me, as you have to kill quite a few dragons to craft it all, and the dragons are much more challenging as well so you definitely earn it.

I have Deadly Dragons set to hard mode at the moment but due to good gear & powerful spells, I may need to kick it up to hardcore. I am playing the game on normal but I felt that going any higher was too much when I'm using PISE as well. I need a few more cloth drops & I'll have the Vengeful set.

I've got Wars in Skyrim, PISE, and Deadly Dragons on Normal difficulty, but playing on Master. Dragon fights are a real bear, and to beat the end boss of most dungeons i have to use everything i have at my disposal. Though sometimes i'll come across an NPC which just is impossible to kill, yet bandits i one-shot. Pretty wonky balance atm, but at least there are still challenges.

I'm not entirely sure which gear you're talking about. Are there actually different stats introduced on these items?

The thing that gets me is that due to the increased difficulty i've made my game, i have to use everything i have. I have a summoned zombie, i have a destruction rune down, i have cc someone with illusion, and often i'll have to chug pots like mad. I'm also using midas, so that adds many useful Alteration spells. Because i'm using all these different skills, robe enchants are really lackluster. I don't want 17% reduced magicka cost to one of my schools when i'm using 5. I'd much prefer magic damage or the ability to have resist + magic regen on robes, or maybe spell crit or better yet, health + magicka regen.

Yes. If you go to the smithing menu, I believe it's either under "Draugr" or "Misc." The dragons drop soul gems and specially named items - cloth, light and heavy armor pieces. Using the soul gems and the specific armor piece, you can then upgrade it to have specific stats. If you're into destruction, there is increased magic damage and increased mana regen, for example. There is another option to turn it into a conjuration-focused set.

Why not use the Archmage robes? It is unique in that you can also wear a circlet (I like the Mage circlet) or mask.

I have Wars on "balanced" but I might kick that up a ton. Normal + hard mod modes seems work best for me. Gives me breaks in between & a fighting chance to still be a kickass mage.

They also make you look like a hobo. Seriously, could they have made the mage options look any lamer?

I used a retexturing mod to make it look way better... until I got a better robe from a dragon drop & "made" it with the forge.

I know there are, and while I love all the Skyrim modding it just would be nice if there were some decent looking armor and weapons in the base game. I mean it's an RPG, there is magic and shouting, I want to be a hero. Not have "realistic" looking rags cobbled together with some rotting animal hair along the fringe.

Well that's cool, i'll have to check it out. Definitely a step in the right direction, but it rather sounds like an endgame piece of gear, as do the Archmage robes. Ideally, i hope a mod comes along which completely revamps the itemization so that you will find smaller upgrades more often and be able to have huge diversity in what kind of gear you'd like to equip.

I'm using wars on "golden age" i think, and i barely notice it at all. It might be time for Dark Age, but with how difficult these dragons are, i definitely don't want more than 1 at a time.

15% reduction on all spells cast
+50 Magicka
100% extra Magicka regeneration

I might kick it up to Dark Age + Deadly Dragons hardcore. I actually want to fight 2 dragons at once with followers. :D

How do you get the non-hooded Archmage robes? When I became the ArchMage, I was given the hooded version, meaning I can't wear a mask/circlet.

Or maybe you can in vanilla...now that I think about it, the weapon and armor fixes mod changed it so hooded robes counted as a helm as well. Hmm.

You might have to use the console to get it since that mod does change it.

Thanks for the info, so they are like the best in slot for chest for mages? BOOO that all you have to do is the mage guild quest chain. Boy does bethesda suck at progression.

There's a higher level destruction robe that does well but nothing spectacular. I've gone to the mods in order to get better mage gear since it seems that mages got the shaft. Underpowered magicka & lacking gear really did it in for me. I now have a ton of extra spells, high powered gear, more perks, & higher damage per each level of destruction. Skyrim is a blast now comparatively to when I was doing barely any damage to any enemy.

According to the wiki and from what I've seen in my game, the hooded version does allow circlets and masks, though the mask still may cause a visual error as I am not sure if this was fixed.

But yes, you can use the console to give you a non-hooded version or use this mod (the stats in this mod are the hooded version stats):

Finally messing around with both FXAA Injector and Enhanced (ENB) Shaders. I really like what FXAA Injector brings to the table and I've got that thing tweaked just about right for both this and Amalur.

I'm still trying to get the feel for ENB. If using both of these in concert, what should my thinking be in terms of settings and something offsetting or complementing something else? Or avoiding clashes and redundancies?

I use FXAA solely for the sharpening. I used to run both, but now I get better gameplay with FXAA/RL
