Skyrim Modding Megathread

^^ yea that last one is badass. I'll use it for sure on my next game. They have some REALLY stupid perks as pre-reqs to some good ones. Tards.

The ambition on these following projects truly astonishes me. I have to believe at least some of these people are professionals or some such but whoever and whatever, I daresay everyone here will feel a tingle up their legs after they read and look this stuff over.

and this will really blow your mind as if that first one isn't awesome enough.

What's amazing is that they started working BEFORE the game came out and still without a Creation Kit...unless of course some of these people have inside connections like I suspect.

However the case may be: We all have a LOT to look forward to.

I'll say it: Screw Steam. We don't need it. The modders don't need it or care about it.

This. Somehow I feel like a jaded conspiracy theorist, but I feel like the steam workshop suddenly getting thrown in there is a giant flip-off to hard working modders and their networks, and is just Bethesda being meddlesome and ignorant.

The Creation Kit should have come out right away and you patch/add Steam useage later down the road.

I think this entire situation is past ridiculous.

Yea and now they're delaying its release into February. I wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to make a profit somehow. All this work for no return? I don't buy it.

No finalized Patch 1.4. No Creation Kit. February 1. LOL, ridiculous.

I would pay for a decent creation kit. Better than a bunch of engineer designed development tools tossed in to a folder and released as a zip file.

They should have put it out quickly and worry about adding Steam implementation down the road.

And/or: The game is so bugged and complex they probably know they'd better QC the hell out of that Creation Kit, too, because it may be a complex buggy nightmare in and of itself.

Its Feb 2nd out here :p

How's it go... I'm not surprised, just disappointed...

Its annoying that its not here, but really, not remotely surprised at all. :(

The one thing I like that they're doing is the "beta patch" concept. People that are opted in can take their chances and then folks like me are perfectly content to wait for the "finalized" version.

That concept I like.

The way this Creation Kit has been handled I don't.

And overall, if you say something's going to happen then either stand by it or be more on top of the communication. That last Bethblog of theirs two weeks ago really made it sound like end of January was go time.

Maybe that's true...maybe they meant NEXT January. ;)

This is why if I was developing a large software project I wouldn't throw out dates unless I knew 100%. Shit happens, then people get bitchy.

One thing that the gaming industry is almost universally bad at is communication. They must either be too busy or don't see the gain in actually talking to their consumers, which completely baffles me at times. Other than CDProjekt who had lots of communication with the release of TW2, I'm struggling to think of many other companies who actually communicated what the hell was going on.

I jinxed it. Go to Skyrim Nexus now and there's a major update and preview video of the Creation Kit and Steam Workshop.

I have to admit: Steam workshop looks VERY viable and easy to use. The Nexus and those other outlets might have just been put on notice the way it looks and sound in that video.

Do you mean that a whole lot of mods' updates will be put on hold until they're converted over to the CK/SW bundle?

Well i'm guessing this WILL happen (the tools will come out, and modders will want to update their mod using the best tools and tweak things they've previously been unable), but i think he meant that with the workshop looking so easy, skyrimnexus.com and others like it may not be able to generate enough income to stay around.

Also, it doesn't look like they're going to try to charge anything, so i guess my fears were not warranted.

What is so good about workshop? A few times, I don't even want to update some mods since the authors tend to make the mod worse (example: Wars in Skyrim). How does it handle load order, complex mods, bashed patch, different versions (again, Wars in Skyrim is an example), etc?

I'll be sticking with manual installation and BAIN.

So far. ;)

Ideally, I'm hoping everything complements everything else.

Good questions. Time will tell the tale.

FWIW, I doubt a whole lot of people will ever abandon BAIN and stuff like that no matter what.

Nexus Mod Manager has already spoiled me so it's hard to imagine just how much "easier and more intuitive" Steam Workshop could really be but we'll all find out before too long.

I dread the idea of anyone one company having an exclusive stranglehold so I hope that's not what happens here.

EDIT - Apparently it was Skyboost causing problems.

EDIT - Updated Skyboost...still doesn't load? Hmm...

Is there another link to SKSE that we're supposed to use? Launched Steam and updated and then downloaded SKSE 1.4.8 from

http://skse.silverlock.org/

And I get an error launching.

"Your game version is not supported, supporting other patches: 1.3.10.0us"

That's the correct SKSE version. Have any SKSE mods not compatible with the patch?

Launched fine for me with SKSE 1.4.8. I also removed the skse_1_3_10.dll from my skyrim folder beforehand. I don't know if that would cause a problem or not but give it a shot see if it has an effect on launch maybe?

I also don't use Skyboost, try launching with out it?

EDIT: SkyUI 2.1 is up now. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=3863

The old .dll files don't affect anything. You are correct that SkyBoost does not work with the patch and is pointless to use now. That is the cause of the problem. I thought he stated he removed it but I see he stated he updated it.

@dj - After updating SkyUI I restored the old dll in the folder and seen it didn't have an effect. You beat me to the edit of my post.

I've updated all my mods using SKSE, and I've even tried disabling them all.

EDIT - I had to delete the file "dinput8.dll." Now we're back in business.

That and skyboost.asi. Both need to be deleted.

So has anyone else noticed that textures just a few meters ahead of you are incredibly blurry now, totally defeating the purpose of HD-texture packs. Is this Bethesda's idea of "increasing performance?"
