Looks good to me.
All Thermalrights have the grooves in the base... that's just how the milling machine does it's job. It's still a smooth finish. If you want to lap your Silencer, all the power to you, but I don't think it's needed.Originally posted by 69cents
If you have touched or ran your nail across the heatsink you would notice a zipping sound, Please tell me what OEM heatsink does that.the oem heatsink on my Canopus Spectra has a better surface.
I will be lapping my VGA silencer over the next two days, I'll take pics.
at least read the post before you ask a question. yes most will fit, dont know any that dont (non home made anyway).Originally posted by SycoraX
Anyone knows what heatsinks would fit on 9800pro's memory under the VGA Silencer? Are there any? Or should I use them only on the back of the card?
I need some cheap ones.

I just got done "lapping" mine. Didn't really do a good job just did a 350 grit then a 400 grit, and finished it off with some rubbing compound. Took the zipping out of it and now I get a stable 419.50/355 =/ I also took a little video of the "zipping" with my 707. I just have to find a host, and post it.
Good luck everyone.

I just got done reading through this huge thread and was curious if anyone had put a VGA silencer on an 9800pro 256MB card. I know they are for 9800pro's but this one is more like an XT, which is not supported. What do you guys think?

hey PacknHeat... how did you go about lapping the silencer? i mean did you use a sanding block, or glass or free hand, or what? nice work by the way.
The tape is also used on aircrafts. We call it speed tape.Originally posted by SkaarjMaster
PacknHeat, is that the shiny tape that's used to wrap around air conditioning pipes that you used to close off that 7mm gap? If so, how is that working? I may try this with mine to close off the gap.
