well...

I just got my VGA silencer and now I`m scared to death to install it, after reading all the problems that people are having!
:(
 
then you shouldnt have really bought it if you cant take the risks. you can easily get your money back if you sell the kit to someone else.
 
well...basically i`m trying to reduce the noise output....

I`ve heard so many good things about the VGA Silencer that I thought to buy it. Well....

I'll give myself a day to decide if to install it or not!
 
one question ....

do you recommend using AS5 or the paste that the VGA silencer had with it?

look I was alittle timid my first time, we all are, just be gentile and keep your wits about you!
I even did a lap dance on my GPU ......You'll see all will be as it should be:D
 
If your stock HSF's glued on, you'll have to be a little careful. Otherwise, rip that old junker off and slap the new one on.

My Ti4600 had a glued-on stock HSF, it was probably the worst sounding fan I've ever heard. The heatsink it was attatched to was painted blue aswell, not exactly good for heat transfer. Stuck it in the freezer overnight in a bag and pried it off with a butter knife and snapped in the new Thermaltake one, and it's been working fine ever since.
 
i wouldnt worry about ruining your card. just leave the shim on your 9800np and there is a very small chance you could damage it.

It was a piece of cake for me....I took off my shim though, since supposedly, sometimes the shim is higher than the core and blocks the heatsink from touching the core...thus making it difficult to cool proporly. I used a credit card edge to run over the shim and see if it was higher than the core, and it seemed to be a tad higher. So I spent like 45 minutes prying that bastard off, and then put my VGA silencer on. I got a whopping extra 10mhz on my core overclock, but it probably runs a lot cooler now, which is good.
 
After installing mine I have permanent artifacts. It seems there is no way to get rid of them. I have tried almost everything humanly possible. The card must have been damaged somehow.

I've just recieved my VGA Silencer for my Hercules 9800 Pro - I spent over $300 for the video card some time ago.

Wish me luck.

If some of you folks who screwed up you video cards installing the VGA Silencer knew that it could damage your video cards, would you still have installed it anyways?
 
i still would have installed it but now that i really fucked up, im not gonna mess with it. This was the first time i ever messed anything up. now everyone thinks im a newbie haha.

The next best thing to learning from your own mistakes is to learn from somebody else's mistakes :)

It's also cheaper :)
 
i have no idea what i did wrong, thats the thing. it just didnt work after i put the silencer on. the only thing i could think of is ESD even though i touched a piece of metal inside my case every minute or 2.
 
Not necessarily, my old geforce 3 didn't have one, and neither does my brother's geforce 4... My 9600XT doesn't have a shim either
