Samsung 2333T

those are the tests i was running at the store. are those a good complete set of tests?

Can any 2333T owners check how the monitor performs on these tests? its best to view them full screen (F11) and of course your current calibration will affect overall results.

Black levels - Whats the lowest box you can see?

White saturation - Whats the highest checkerboard pattern you can see?

I'm actually considering buying one of these just curious if it has issues with crushing blacks or clipping whites.

On my current PX2370 I can see up to box 253 on the white saturation test (254 blends in with background) and box 2 is barely visible on the black level test (box 1 blends in but before I used magic tune box 1 WAS visible, however the gamma was overkill at the time.)

I see box 1 clearly and box 252 barely.

Edit- After playing with the settings, 253 is clear with 254 barely visible. But that turns box 1 into barely visible from perfectly clear.

I turn down the brightness in software, otherwise the colors are a little washed. The people replying clearly didn't do that. I see box 20 then.
Note that I can't even see box 40 on my TN when I do that.

"the 2333t looks great, but man i really, really hate the samsung shiny plastic styling. who likes it???? "

It looks very nice. Doesn't bother me.

I think I can live with it, but I just got used to to matte plastic enclosures. For the PQ and price I guess the enclosure doesn't matter too much :)

Im not sure I understand, you're using software to adjust brightness which results in anything below box 20 NOT being visible? Why would you want to do that?

I think you set it to low is all, you dont want that much black crush in your image, have you used magictune to calibrate it? I had very good results with it on my current PX2370, colors are much richer / deeper and it still has good shadow details.

ordered 2 new 2333t today
i hope at least one of them will have a centered panel and is free of electronics noise this time
my current 2333t is going back when they arrive

Centered panel??

the 2333t uses a case too big for its panel
as a result there is too much black border visible and the panel isn't automatically in a centered position
my border is about 0,5mm on the left side and 2mm on the right side
it can also be slightly tilted

so my 2 new 2333t arrived today

one has a perfectly centered panel but is seriously too loud to use (noisy like my 22" crt at 200hz)
its unfortunately going back

the other one is not perfectly centered but acceptable (at least the panel isn't tilted like my first one)
noise is louder than my first 2333t but also still acceptable i guess
i have to compare backlight bleed between this one and my first one to decide which one is going back

i had hoped the quality control wouldn't be that bad but i'm already considering to order 3 new ones

anyone knows how i can remove fingerprints from this monitor?
i'd like to clean them before sending em back

edit: don't bother trying
even touching it with a finger already leaves scratches

I am not sure why you keep buying down if they have such a bad quality control.
its the only tft that has 72hz, low input lag, and good picture quality :(

I bought one of these panels and am pleased with it. The only caveat I have is the text is not as clear as my old TN panel. Even after adjusting the clear font app in Windows 7 I just can not get it right.

did you play with the sharpness setting already?
setting it to 48 looks kinda right

Let me chime in here, ghosting is all about sensitivity. With that said, I may not be as sensitive as you all. Are there any programs I can use to test the ghosting further?

World of Warcraft, TF2, Black Ops all look fine to me, these are the primary games that I play and have yet to see ANY of the issues that I've read in this thread. Could someone point me to a game where they are seeing it and just destroying their eyes? I want to see it for myself.

Even moving that picture that was posted w/ the fence, I didn't see it going all crazy or anything out of the norm. Even on YouTube there was a video where a guy was playing a game of Pool and the ball was doing some insane ghosting, I've yet to see any of this. The hissing that dowant is having, not even that, and I ordered 2 additional, because I was so pleased with my initial purchase.

Since you're achieving 72hz, dowant, I'm assuming you're using the VGA cable that came w/ it? Have you tried using a DVI cable and compared differences? With this monitor, there is a clear difference between analog 72hz and digital 60hz.

About the font... if your sharpness is too high, it looks crazy dumb

i'm mainly using dvi with the 72hz timings supplied by "ToastyX"
using vga didn't really work correctly
the image was always too blurry and the monitor rarely auto-adjusted the picture without black borders

blurring is always personal preference of course
i used to play on pro level and never had a tft for more than a few days before the 2333t

Ohh what?? I want 72hz :p

Did toastyx already make a post somewhere in this thread? I tried using search thread but didnt come back with anything.

yes its easy to overlook i guess
you need the following timings:
Horizontal Active: 1920
Horizontal Front Porch: 30
Horizontal Sync Width: 40
Horizontal Back Porch: 45
Horizontal Total: 2035
Horizontal Sync: +

Vertical Active: 1080
Vertical Front Porch: 3
Vertical Sync Width: 4
Vertical Back Porch: 5
Vertical Total: 1092
Vertical Sync: +

My Samsung 2333T should arrive Monday.

I've had an ISP LCD (Dell 2005fpw), MVA (SOYO) and a few TN's (currently on one).

Hopefully, I don't run into some of the problems mentioned in this thread. *fingers crossed*

I ordered one of these today hopefully I get a decent unit ;)

I almost ordered it from Newegg because they have a $20 off promo code going on with the 2333t, but I forgot they charge taxes since I live in CA, on top of that they charge an $8 Electronic Waste Recycling fee (another CA thing).

My final cart price was showing $181 shipped, so I canceled that and ordered it from J&R which avoided any taxes and the EWR fee, even without any promo codes It was only $161 final answer.

Ill see how it competes against my lowly TN panel Samsung PX2370, It might sound silly saying this but the 2333T is facing a challenge in terms of color accuracy and text clarity, We'll see.

I plan on setting both up side by side and running dual so i'll post pics & impressions.

Color accuracy and TN aren't usually mentioned in the same sentence :) At least in a positive light.

i decided against ordering more 2333t for now
instead i ordered special tools for opening the case to see if i can fix the panel position and the noise myself
they will arrive next week

Ya PX2370 is one of the rare TN's with accurate colors out of the box (2.3 average deltaE before calibration).

A color accurate TN is a bit of an oxymoron really considering the amount of vertical color/gamma shift present when viewing head on.

So the 2333T doesn't actually use the same panel as the F2380(M)?

I just received my 2333T and I can tell you that for $150 this monitor is awesome.
I replaced my dell st2210 TN and the difference is huge. Deep blacks, no black crush after calibration and no hum noise.
I'm a hardcore COD4 player and seriously the ghosting is not that bad. You can obviously feel it coming from a TN but it's totally playable, you just have to get used to it.
Uniformity is pretty good too. There's a little bit of backlight bleeding on the bottom right corner but you won't notice unless you stare at it.
The build quality is ok. It's plastic but it looks durable. I mean, what else can you ask for $150.
I also have a HP LP2465 (S-PVA) and I've had multiple TN. Trust me, for this price you can't get anything better.
You'll have to calibrate it though. I found that the best results for me are:
- gamma mode 2
- brightness 35
- contrast 70
- sharpness 60
- response time "fastest"

The HP has better color accuracy but less contrast. The HP build quality is also much better and robust. The HP is a true 8bit panel while the Samsung is a 6bit + AFRC. After calibration you can notice some slight banding in smooth gradients but nothing compared to a TN.
Viewing angles are about the same. The HP gets really hot but the Samsung runs cool. In terms of quality the HP is better but the 2333T is a winner for the price. The HP is over $500 if you buy it new and $300 for a refurbished one.

i can get a used 2465 for around $150. it is used though and out of warranty. do you think it's worth it?

I would rather get a refurbished one. You can get it on ebay for $290 free shipping.
http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-LP2465-24-LC...6002?pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item3cb2a06d82

But for $100 more you can get a new HP ZR24w. The HP LP2465 it's from 2006 so the CCFL probably has a short life. I'm not sure if they change the CCFL when they refurbish it. You could ask the seller. If so, it's well worth it, it's an awesome monitor.
There's also a refurbished Dell 2001FP on ebay for $150. It's an old monitor but it's great. It has an IPS panel. I have one at work and the image quality is really good. Good angles, contrast and color accuracy. This is the most uniform panel I've seen, no bleeding or glow at all. It's a true 8bit. The only drawback is that it has a 5:4 ratio, so it's not widescreen.

this. Had I not read this entire thread prior to me purchasing the monitor. I may not have been so critical about judging or even noticed it while gaming. But, I like doing my research before going in to a purchase. Even then, the deep, rich colors and quality make up for this monitors faults. I enjoy doing everything on this monitor [gaming, movies, etc]

I have 2x 2333SW, and was considering getting a 3rd one for eyefinity.

Does anybody own a 2333SW and could give me an idea of how does it compare to the 2333T?

Thanks.

According to Google the 2333SW uses a 5ms TN panel which is completely different from the 2333T's PVA panel.

I dont own either model (2333T is on the way), but based on TN vs. PVA the 2333T will most likely have higher contrast ratio / deeper black levels and better viewing angles but it will exhibit more ghosting during motion while gaming.

Soon Ill see for myself how bad the motion is vs. the 2ms TN im currently using.
