Samsung 2333T

IMO response times are just just a big marketing trick. Anything below 16ms (g2g) is perfectly usable for games. I play COD4 almost everyday since 2007, and I've been playing on my 2333T for the last 3 days and I'm telling you, yes, I notice the difference compared to a TN but once you get used to it doesn't bother me and I play equally good.

yesterday i tested the 2333t with world of warcraft for an hour or so
didn't even find it usable for a slow game like that
moving the cursor on normal backgrounds is fine
but everything moving just loses so much detail...

today i opened up my 2333t

the insides are pretty simple and easy to take apart
the panel has a nice thin metal bezel (only about 1cm wide) and there are 2 pcbs in a metal encasing

i managed to fix my panel position and its pretty much centered now
the humming noise came from a big blue inverter that i couldn't fix yet
also cut the power to the led and removed the plexiglas panel

i'm thinking about building a custom case for the 2333t in the near future
the nice thin bezel already has screw threads on its sides and its easy to put the electronics in a noise-isolated box with a custom case

so far i'm pleased though

Yeah, I think I said that earlier about Runescape. It's just like big VA TVs.

what improvements has this brought?

My 2333T is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, Is it true this panel uses 6 bit color (18bit total) with FRC, If so does this mean it will have the same dithering / banding that I see on my current TN panel?

No, you'll have a little bit of banding after calibrating but overall you'll notice it less than on a TN monitor.
It's important to note that this monitor needs to be calibrated to get rid of the black crush and high saturation.
I posted the values I used on this topic.

Havent had much time to mess with it yet I got home a little late, but so far the 2333T has an impressive picture, deep black levels, rich colors, very bright whites, performs very well on the white saturation / black level tests, no black crush with out of box settings.

The only odd thing is theres a noticeable gamma shift just by moving my head a little side to side.

for example this forum's grey colors are darker in the center of the screen and this darkness moves as you shift your head.

This doesn't occur on the PX2370 I have sitting next to it (TN panel).

Not a huge issue. Still need to mess with it more and play some games.

You'll have to calibrate it though. I found that the best results for me are:
- gamma mode 2
- brightness 35
- contrast 70
- sharpness 60
- response time "fastest"

Wow these monitors must vary a lot from sample to sample, My 2333T is very dull & dark using your settings (especially when looking over at the PX2370) but when I have brightness at 70, contrast 75 & Gamma mode 1 its nice & bright without blowing my eyes out. (at least for now, Its to early to call these final settings).

I'm using ToastyX's Custom RGB 50-40-28 settings and it definitely looks better than the default 50 / 50 / 50 values.

Motion is of course not as smooth when gaming vs. TN however its not as bad as I imagined, using a DVI-D cable from monoprice.

My brother and I both seem to agree the PX2370 has an ever so slight edge in text sharpness but its pretty close. (PX sharpness set @ 56, & 2333T's @ 60).

My 2333T has very slight backlight bleed in the upper left & right corners but only noticeable when looking at a solid black screen in a dark room. The PX2370 has more bleed overall and when gaming the upper portion of the screen is crushing a lot of details (im told this is a common TN trait). It's nice to see the 2333T is more uniform in details across the screen.

pretty high sharpness and brightness settings you use

my settings:
- gamma mode 2
- brightness 20
- contrast 70
- sharpness 48
- response time "faster"

seems like we agree about contrast and gamma mode

Hopefully some of the other 2333t owners in here will chime in on the red/green hue shift and gamma shift (refer to toasty X's mountain picture, this is what his 2333t looks like, and this is his IPS EA231 ). Panda=Sad if this is another case of the IPS Syndrome when it comes to QC. You should really go through Samsung to get a replacement, would be interesting to get some info on their customer service these days.

I have used/calibrated 2x F2380/1x F2380MX, none of which have had the hue shift or backlight bleeding. Contrast on the MX is pretty much 3700:1+ in all the Presets, 3,000:1 after calibration.

Most people don't stare at shades of greys. For regular usage +movies/games that won't be an issue.

I see the same thing on my 2333T w/ the mountain picture, the center is a little darker than the sides.

I guess gamma 2 does look better however 20 brightness is way to low on my monitor, I have to use at least 50.

And based on this sharpness test image the best I could do is using 56 or 60 sharpness vs. the reference image, 48 is to low.

Seems like this monitor's quality control is not really good. Lots of people with all sorts of different problems. I was lucky to get a good one then. No problems so far and 2 weeks of use.

Perhaps, not sure if ill be keeping this one im having a hard time making it look (overall) as nice as my PX2370, It's lacking "punch" and color vibrancy in comparison. also the black levels arent that great when viewing dark scenes in movies & games, Its more of a dark gray at best.

although I notice a blue influence with the black levels in dark scenes on the PX (probably due to the LED backlight).

They both have there own pluses & minuses.

This pic isnt a very good representation of either screen (colors came out weird, focus isnt uniform) but you can see there's a difference between them and I tried my best to make them match:

Hello people, I'm a new user in this forum...

I have this monitor from 2 days, and it's amazing after a simple and manual calibration(in default settings,it crushes gray and black)...

I'm a little unskilled in this field...
So I have a technical question:

yes its easy to overlook i guess
you need the following timings:

how do I overclock to make it to 72 hz monitor (in dvi mode)?

with which software can I do?
to calibrate it, I've only used ATI Catalyst Control Center, and in this software there's no way to do it, the "hz" are stuck at 60

Thank you very much

I RMA'd mine through Samsung, got a refurbished one back in exchange. It also hums.

Have had this monitor for two days now as well, and can definitely notice the gamma shift as well as the hum. The hum is easily drowned out by other ambient noise, but the gamma shift definitely is annoying. The shifting colors on my Asus TN are much easier to tolerate.

Still, given the fact that I'm using it as a secondary monitor to my TN and the price that I got the it for, I'm sure I can live with it.

@Janic wow that hurts and now a refurb which might prove to be even harder to rma in the future.

I'm starting to warm up to this monitor now that ive had more time to mess with it.

Also running dual monitors is nice I dont think I could go back to single again lol.

Seems like this monitor's quality control is not really good. Lots of people with all sorts of different problems. I was lucky to get a good one then. No problems so far and 2 weeks of use.

I'm pretty sure the gamma shift is normal for PVA panels so I wouldnt call it a defect, the humming might be another story tho, I dont hear any hum on my 2333T.

Yes, it can do 72 Hz without skipping frames.

You'll need to add a custom resolution with custom timing parameters to fit within DVI bandwidth:

Horizontal Active: 1920
Horizontal Front Porch: 30
Horizontal Sync Width: 40
Horizontal Back Porch: 45
Horizontal Total: 2035
Horizontal Sync: +

Vertical Active: 1080
Vertical Front Porch: 3
Vertical Sync Width: 4
Vertical Back Porch: 5
Vertical Total: 1092
Vertical Sync: +

I used the powerstrip software to set these settings ...

Now entering the menu screen under "info", you can read the values 72.9KHz and 67hz ...

Are these values correct?

When using this frequency, risk of damage?

Thank you

no 72hz / 78.5khz would be correct

there generally is no risk of damage using higher clock rates
only overvolting or overheating has that effect

ok thank you...

So, Why do I read lower value(72,9 khz and 67hz) instead of 78.5khz 72 hz, after setting all the parameters indicated by ToastyX?

EDIT: Now I set a custom resolution and i set 78.5khz 72hz but in this way the screen flashes and goes back to 60 Hz after a few seconds

So I set those parameters with 76.4 kHz and 70 Hz and in this way seems to be stable and it works

Thank You for help

Was bored and decided to test input lag on the 2333T, I dont have a CRT to use so the PX2370 had to do, the PX was tested on digital versus as having 3.3ms avg. input lag vs. CRT so its very fast.

Looks like they're pretty close with the PX being slightly faster. The 2333T feels input lag free when gaming its just the streaking / motion blur that can be a little distracting.

my amd graphics card arrived today
now i have the same problem

same timings worked perfectly with my nvidia :(

Are you sure your PX isn't over-saturated? Just go to control panel and increase saturation.

Or increase the colors on the 2333.

i already found the cause of the problem:
the single-link dvi seems to be some cheap crap and not a true single-link port
it just can't do the full single-link bandwidth

just plug it into the dual-link dvi or into a hdmi/dp dvi adapter
worked right away for me

needless to say it will be the last amd graphics card i bought for the next 5 years
edit: already returned it after barely owning it for 5 hours

I am also on the fence about this monitor. I am looking for the best "Bang for Buck" monitor for movies, spreadsheet work and the occasional game. I do not do much FPS'ing anymore just TF2 from time to time and some diablo. I was leaning towards this one since you can get it from Microcenter for $150 so if I get 2 of these that would be about the same price as 1 27" Asus VE278Q. so I could get three of them for $450 while 3 27" would be double the price. Anyone use this in Eyefinity mode and have an issue with games? Or would it be best to go for another monitor?

icor1031,

Thanks for the post, do you think I can ask you a HUGE favor!?

Could you get a tape measure and measure your table for me and measure the monitors and how they layout. I would so very much appreciate it so I can just buy all three and triple make sure it will fit on my 47" table. How far away do you sit from your desk?

Is the reason for the 2311 due to ghosting and when you are using the monitors on the side ( 2333T) it is hitting more of your peripheral vision so you won't notice it as much?

THANK YOU SO MUCH

The monitors use 59-60".
The stands use 53.5".
I sit with my eyes 33" from the center monitor.

I use the U23 as the center because of ghosting. I don't use TN because they suck at black levels and I can't see my opponents in the dark.

You don't notice the blurring because they are peripheral.
They match the U23 very closely in color, etc. compared to TN. This makes the game look much better.

I love the 2333T. I am trying to figure out a way to make a vertical roller so I can swap out the middle screen with another 2333T, when I'm not gaming. The crystal effect on the dell drives my crazy for reading text. Of course I don't want a TN because of the black levels and the terrible colors. But I might get one if I can't find a way to make a roller.

*Actually, I just remembered. I'm wall-mounting them in a week or two and using a keyboard/mouse stand, so I can move myself instead of the monitors. A roller would still be nice though.

I wonder if I could make it work on this table then. I most likely will have to get a new one then because they would hang partially off the the left and right side. How big is the table you use? I am really digging the idea of putting the 3 of them together, but then again most likely my EVGA GTX460 would not work and I would need to get another card. Oh Decisions that I need to make now.

Do you have onboard video? Some allow use as a second GPU. You can connect 3 then.
Otherwise you will need another card, but a cheap card will work. That's not a problem.

My desk is 5'2".

I found the 233T for $149 and now if I find a staples coupon I can get $30 off. Just need to find one, anyone know how Staples monitor policy is?

Do you think it would look weird if you took 1 27" like the VE278Q or HannsG and then put 2 24" next to it?
Posted via Mobile Device

These are 23", but yes. I mean, I'd do it (and have done it) if that's what I had.. but I wouldn't prefer it. The mouse enters the screen at a different point than he left the other screen.. and it looks weird as you said.

It wouldn't be too bad for desktop use, but symmetry is nice. I don't know how it would do in games though. Some people like it, I think it would be annoying.
