Red Dead Redemption PC version after all?

The 360 version of this game looks really incredible considering what its rendering full view without any real massive pop up that you normally experience with any GTA game.

I was playing it earlier and was quite impressed with it being a 360 game , even the weather system is well modeled.

I saw some credits in the beginning for RAGE so and so .. and I'm wondering is this running the RAGE engine? Or something in house because its above the normal 360 grade level engines we so often see recycled.

I'm a PC gaming snob when it comes to my graphics and this game really is that impressive. On the PC I think it would easily outshine something like Just Cause 2.

Same engine as GTA4 and Table Tennis -- Rockstar's in-house Rage engine.

Wow what in the world is wrong with your monitor/TV or 360? It won't be mistaken for a PC game on max settings, true. However if you are planning it on a console on a big TV it looks pretty decent for a console game. Sounds like you have something wrong with your setup to be honest. I also haven't noticed any major slowdowns.

Nothing in the world is wrong with my 360 setup - got an HDMI cable, and a 1080p monitor... I'd say, rather, that there must be something wrong with your PC.

You've seen Just Cause 2 maxed out, completely, with 16QX AA? No way can either of the two consoles compete with that.

Red Dead looks like crap in comparison. I'm surprised that a PC gamer would defend it. I can see a console gamer defending it... but gawd... at times it's a pixelated mess.

Yeah if you are pc gamer there are three reason to get a game on console:
1) it's exclusive and you know it won't come to pc
2) community is there (like fightning games)
3) pc port is crap

Which is why the only 2 titles I've bought in the past 18 months have been FIFA and Red Dead, which is a really fun game - if it ever does get released on the PC I'm not going to care that much. I'm playing it now. I'll be bored with it by then. Too many great titles to be obsessing over just one of them.

Are you from the UK? whats your gamertag? i got fifa on ps3 and had it on my 360 until my bro's mate broke the fucker.

Up for some games?

People don't like playing against me - I don't have the superman reflexes of a young person anymore, so I have to play a possession game, and a defensive game. Yes, I'm one of those guys who plays with 6 people in the backfield. My goals are all from slow, slow buildup play, or from counters.

I guess I'm pretty boring to play against, and I've noticed that guys tend to start chopping my players down out of frustration when they can't get the ball from me. Ah well, you have to do what you have to do - FIFA online is a cut-throat game.

I have a theory though that the online matches will sometimes handicap one of the two players - one night, after being beaten 4-0 by a guy who clearly didn't know how to play the game, and only had 4 shots on net the entire game (his players seemed to be moving right through my players like ghosts) I ripped the CD out of the drive and threw it in the garbage.

So right now, I don't actually have FIFA 10 - I'm playing the World Cup game.

Anyway, as far as Red Dead is concerned. I find that I'm getting more and more used to the graphics - they're just not sharp at all, and I have to trick myself into thinking that the game is stylized to look like that. Does anybody here know the painter Monet? That's what this game looks like on my monitor. Everything in the distance, instead of being sharp, looks kind of... well, like a Monet painting. Just not sharp.

The game's a lot of fun though. A huge shame that this wasn't released on the PC.

I finally got fed up with how horrid 360 games looked on my 24in monitor, so I grabbed my 19" CRT monitor and hooked the 360 up to it via VGA.

Then I set the 360 to run at 1280x720, which caused the picture to stretch vertically on the screen. What I did after that was to adjust the vertical sizing on the screen to create a letter boxed picture. Viola, 360 running at perfect native resolution with no scaling, stretching, blurring, or any other bullshit that degraded the graphics on my 24" monitor and even my 52" 1080p tv.

It's an extreme measure having to play a game on such a small screen, but with the 360 outputting at the exact same resolution that it renders at, the game looks very crisp and clear now. With that said, I have to really hand it to the graphics in this game. They are quite possibly some of the best I've ever seen. This is coming from a PC gamer. It's quite shocking how badly a 360 or PS3 game looks when it is upscaled to a higher resolution than its internal renderer. It's still pretty apparent at times that the game is still pushing the 360 to its limits because of the frequent framerate drops, but Rockstar seems to have managed to cram far more detail into this game than on many other 360 games I've seen. This only makes me want to see a PC version even more. I really hope they make a DX10 renderer for this game so we can use AA along with the game's deferred lighting system.

Have you looked into a 720p CRT HDTV? Upscaling definitely looks like dogshit on LCD monitors or TVs.

Of course console graphics look good if you've not seen anything else in a while.

Ignorance is bliss, which is why everybody is still more than satisfied with five year old graphics hardware and sub-HD resolutions upscaled to a 720 or 1080p signal.

I rarely pick up console games but was considering it for my 360 that just sits and gathers dust.
My friend went and picked it up for the PS3 and it almost made me want to puke. I really hope that
it does get a PC port because I heard it is a very fun game.

Not sure how a console setup could be wrong. I plug in a cable to my PS3 and into the components of my TV. I am not buying a proprietary HDMI cable to get 0 benefit. How can it make bad graphics look better? How should I properly setup my system?

I get huge FPS hits in armadillo. Worst is when a train is in town, wow. I am guessing it to be worse than 20fps. More like 15fps at most.

As for the graphics, they are just too bad to argue about. I wish I only had console games because the graphics are killing this game for me. GTA4 was the same with FPS hits. Its terrible to have such performance when the gameplay is just so much fun. RDR needs to be released on PC immediately. I want to return this PS3 copy to BB and tell them its damaged. Its that bad. PS3 is playing at 720p with this bad of FPS hits. Shows how far behind the PS3 or Xbox are compared to PC today.

Actually... 640p on the PS3.

Since I only have my PS3 connected nowadays, I'm not going to bother with RDR unless there's a PC port down the line.

I picked up GTA4 on the 360 when it first came out, and after a while, it just sort of became unplayable. I never bothered hopping on a motorcycle, as the pop-in couldn't keep up with the speed of the bike.

While some people may find open world games playable on consoles, people found Burn Out playable on the PSP as well.

Back of the box says its 720p. Never heard of 640p???

Console games run at a bunch of different resolutions -- they are not tied to 720p to 1080p. Halo 3 is 640p, Call of Duty 4 is 600p, Alan Wake is 540p. Gran Turismo 5 runs at a funky native resolution of 1280x1080, but I believe it's horizontally upscaled.

haha yeah, oh god these games aren't running in even the lower gimped HD 720p, quite often the more graphically impressive games run at 640p or even lower, you can upscale any resolution. The upscaling itself looks pretty naff, all a bit of a joke really :)

Anamorphic widescreen. It's 4:3, stretched out horizontally, so technically you are rendering at 1080p. Just not widescreen 1080p.

MGS4 did this, too.

Most people don't notice a difference between sub 720, 720, and 1080, I'd say.

Motion blur and super bloom aren't stuffed in every game because people like it.
I mean, you can't see jagged edges when every edge is covered in a haze of 0,0,0 blobs.

I think it really depends on the TV you're using.

I used to play my 360 (and wii for that matter) on a viewsonic 1080p monitor via HDMI. While the monitor worked great for computer use, it made any upscaled console game look like complete crap. The image is/was blury and the colors were washed out (it was better than nothing though).

However, using my brother in laws Samsung TV on the same systems, the picture quality was fantastic. The images were sharp and the colors vibrant.

A friend of mine got RDR for his PS3 and I was expecting the worst having read this thread. To my surprise, it looked great. Granted it wasn't quite PC quality, but it didn't look nearly as bad as I thought it was going to. He's got a pretty decent plasma though

In that case, I'm going to hold out for some official news on the PC version and a review before I bite. I don't want to be in a situation where the port is as bad as GTAIV for the PC ended up.

Isn't Rockstar's RAGE engine supposed to inherently support the PC?

Running a LG 42LH40, it isn't the top model, but it's a nice TV.

It looks bad to me because I game on the PC primarily (99.9% of the time), yet the game is still pretty fun.

In regards to the graphics....

I have a Wii, 360, and top o' the line PC. Having said that I know what each system is capable of and what to expect from their technology. The 360 has what is basically a x1800xt if my mind is right. And for what is shown on the screen that is absolutely amazing!

Now would I expect it to look better on my 5850? Hell yes I would but I'm not crazy. Bottom line, for a console game, Red Dead Redemption is B-E-A-utiful.

I think my point is that I think it's time for the next gen consoles. For an xbox, yea it looks good. For modern day games, not really. (I know, no new consoles on the horizon)

I wouldn't want around X months just to get the PC version. That's silly, especially when the multiplayer is so good and most people use XBL for their multiplayer needs. And God knows how buggy the game will be when it does come to the PC.

I keep telling myself to wait, but once I finish up a few other games I know I'm going to buy it for the 360 on an amazon sale lol :(

Rockstar have a good history of console to PC ports with GTA 3 onwards, except for Bully, Jesus H Christ...but yeah, usually console ports are crap but Rockstar usually live up to expectation, if they do make RDR for the PC I'd be willing to bet it's a top quality game and with any luck it will look fantastic as well.

I said in my post you wouldn't mistake it for a PC game, so I have no idea what JC2 has to do with what I said.

Sorry can't say I notice the pixels. I think it looks pretty good for a console game, just like I said. How close do you sit to your TV?

The only thing I was like "eww" on was the textures. They seem really low res on buildings and the like. Otherwise, the graphics don't bother me at all. I though it looked just fine, pretty good even, for a console game. Then again I prefer gameplay to graphics. JC2 and Crysis bored me to tears (maybe Warhead was good though, never played it) even as pretty as they were. Now in my perfect dream world every game looks awesome AND has awesome game play :). Unfortunately reality is a letdown there :(

I agree. Rockstar will more than likely do it right.

A couple of my friends keep raving at how great this game is and telling me to buy an xbox 360 to play it. I really do hope this thing comes out on the PC, I'm not going to buy an xbox, but I would like to play it.

Don't buy a console just to play this. It's not worth it.

I already had a PS3 lying around but I tell you: If you're even remotely spoiled by your PC...you'll run out of tolerance pretty quick trying to play this. It's a fun game but damn, I need this on my PC stat.

All playing this game has done is underscored for me just how spoiled and appreciative of my PC and PC gaming.

Time to go play some more Just Cause 2 on my GTX 480 with everything maxed out and awesome frame rates... ;)

Its a definite buy. I will buy again when it comes for PC and sell this PS3 copy. I have over 30hours in it and only 50% completed for the main story line. I spent 45 minutes last night almost in a single spot in mexico just killing off wolves. Had to leave when all my weapons were out of ammo.

My only concern about PC and using KB is how easy Dead Eye mode will be. Slow motion with Mouse accuracy will be so easy.

C'mon, you know things like "Slow Motion" were made because a game controller has such shitty control compared to Mouse + Keyboard. FPS with a game controller would make me stab myself repeatedly with a rusty spork. I dunno how the hell people play FPS games with one.

Was Max Payne a console port?

Maybe you misunderstood but Max Payne was a PC game first...then ported over to consoles. And the point was that was one of the first games with "Slow Motion".

You're right, I had thought it hit xbox and PC at the same time.

^^ You basically may as well be me typing that post. ;)

The SECOND I see a PC version confirmed and dated I'll be flipping this PS3 version out of here.

I don't know about you but I've had a number of times already where I sorely wish I had my mouse and my keyboard. The controls are decent but I'm so used to and spoiled by the KBM now that it's not even funny.

I'll tear this game apart and dominate it if I ever get a PC version with KBM.

No I'm pretty sure Max Payne started that, and The Matrix kinda made it a huge fad.

Im in the same boat. many have raved about ti and persuading me to buy it on the 360.
