Red Dead Redemption PC version after all?

I'll have the PS3 version here today or tomorrow. Amazon is generous for repeat business and to Prime Members so it's $44 including warp speed shipping for me.

If a PC version ever really gets officially confirmed and dated I'll simply turn right around and sell this and view it as a glorified rental/preview situation. I'll get at least 50-60 percent of my money back on a "like new" used copy.

This is one of the very exceptions to where I simply will not wait any longer than necessary. The last time I did this was with GTAIV so you can see I don't do this very often. ;)

I'm a GTA junkie and a kick ass Wild West variant on that? Hell no, I'm not waiting.

It was funny. I played the hell out of GTAIV on the consoles and had moved on to other games. When I got the PC version of GTAIV it really was like a brand new game in more ways than one. I'll never forget my jaw dropping when I saw how amazing the PC version looked and ran right off the bat. I hope the same happens with RDR some day but I'm not going to deprive myself in the interim. ;)

GTAIV uses too much CPU.....Blah blah, if it left them idle people would complain about that. I never finished GTA on PS3 but with RDR on PS3, maybe I will wait till both come out on PC to pick up both on PC.... :)

Still getting RDR today, should already be at my house, unless the mailman kept it.

GTA4 only uses 45% of my i7 cpu

The accounts I've read say that the game looks and runs much better than GTAIV. Might have to give this a try on the 360.

While I will probably end up (in the far distant future :p ) wishing I had it on the PC for mods and the like, I couldn't wait and got it for the 360 yesterday. Great game so far.

I'm having a LOT of fun with this game but I'll tell ya: I'm already having visions of how awesome the PC version would look and how great things would feel with a keyboard and mouse.

how is this relevant information, when the game was made for core2?

I think GTA IV's cpu usage depends on the video card. If your vid card is bottlenecking CPU then you're obviously gonna see lower CPU usage.

When I ran GTA IV at 1920x1200 my CPU usage was around 40-50%, when I reduced the res the CPU usage shot up to 66%

I hope it comes to PC. Well, I won't pay $60 for a game regardless unless it's Elder Scrolls so I'll be waiting anyway. I hate it how they can't just be truthful about their plans. It's sleazy to hide info about other versions of the game to get people to buy it on something other than their preferred platform. They're no better than the LOTR theatrical editions blu ray debacle.

Well, it's to be expected. They don't want to lose the game sales to people who will decide to just bide their time and pirate the PC version like 5 days after the console versions come out.

Punishing the people interested in buying the game is a great way to generate goodwill.

because that's so much worse than everyone downloading the xbox image a week before launch? complete with full access to all community and mp features. also doesn't change the fact that they're willing to finagle the press in any way they can to promote their platform of choice. making this about piracy just detracts from the main point, that they would say one thing and then do another.

On my PC monitor, Red Dead looks god awful in comparison with any modern PC game - it just sucks. It's a really fun game, but wow is it ever ugly.

360 or PS3 version?

I have the 360 version - but I don't think it matters. A Core i7 GTX 480 setup is now going to blow any of the consoles right out of the water.

It's impossible to play Just Cause 2 at max settings, at a super high resolution, with 16QX AA, and then immediately afterwards play Red Dead on a console and be entirely happy with it.

There's just no comparison. I don't even think it's a fair comparison. Don't get me wrong, Red Dead's a fun game... but this needs to be released on the PC.

Yes, this sort of PC is an order of magnitude faster at rendering games than any modern console (~10x faster)

I understand why rockstar waits to do a PC release, but I really wish they wouldn't wait as long as they do. Usually by that time, there is little to no more hype surrounding it.

I can't stand playing GTA 4 on consoles. texture pop-in and performance in gerenal are terrible... and since RDR uses the same engine, I have a feeling that it will be just as bad.

Who cares about hype?

I want to play a good game, if I have to wait then so be it. Being first to play it is no bonus if it's crap. If they rush it then it will just become another crap console port, we've got way more than enough of them already.

well, what I mean by hype is easter eggs, surprises, story line, etc.

almost all of my friends game exclusivly on consoles, so I get to hear about and see all this cool shit for for 9 months before I finally get a chance to play it.... and which point it almost becomes old hat.

Releasing it later has nothing to do with refining the game... acording to lazlow (from rockstar), they release it later because of piracy, not because they want to take their time and 'do it right'. It's going to be the same game regardless of it's release date. Whether you like it or not, it's always going to be a console port

It's not exactly hard to avoid news on it, especially if you're a PC gamer and not in console circles such as forums etc. Just forget it exists until the PC release hits.

Playing a game on a console thats 5 years old is old hat, playing the same game on a system where it looks good and run smoothly is just a far superiour gaming experience, no matter how you cut it.

If they really are relasing it later because of piracy then it doesn't bother me none, if we have to wait for the superiour version then we have to wait. Yes it will be a console port either way, but there is a world of difference between a good and bad console port, and obviously in that time they're going to polish the game and improve it for the PC like has been the case with all the previous Rockstar games. PC Games like GTA IV look far superior to the console counterparts, it's obvious theres improvements there for the PC.

It does look bad. Very bad. I haven't turned on my PS3 in some time though. Amazing how terrible it looks compared to metro2033 on my PC, and I only have a 4890.

I thought GTA4 was supposedly a quad core destroyer? If it runs good on a dual core with 4890, I may have to pick it up. One of my biggest gripes of red dead is I hate trying to use ridiculous controller techniques to just be able to push the correct buttons. Aiming with the right stick and moving with the left stick is such a mess. Then trying to aim and shoot something I intended while running around is such a pain. Just reinforces why I do not play shooters on console. Actually the only games I really play on console are racing games. I hope RDR comes out on PC in the next couple months. Then I can still sell this for a decent price.

I don't want a rush, either, but at least 6 months? C'mon.

And yet again: We STILL don't have it confirmed 100 percent that thing is even going to come out on the PC at all. I sure hope it does!

It's a VERY good game. It's an awesome game. It'll probably be a GOTY candidate for me when this year is out.

It's worth playing now IMO and then buying it again when it comes out on the PC especially if you can get it for a nice deal like I did.

It looks good for a console title. No more. No less. Take that FWIW.

If you're coming off high end PC awesomeness it's going to be a bit jarring of a come down on visuals. No doubt about it. But the game is just so damned good and fun.

I agree with you but basically I'm a fan of games first and I'll be damned if I'm going to wait any longer than I have to. I'll sell the console version when I either get tired of it or when the PC version gets locked down just as I did with GTAIV.

By the time the PC version comes out, if it ever even happens, it'll be like a whole new game in more ways than one to me anyways. :)

Yes!

Red Dead Redemption looks insanely ugly in comparison with any modern PC game running on state of the art hardware.

Not only does Red Dead look like utter crap, but shockingly the performance can be pretty horrific as well. I'm seeing huge frame-rate dips when there's lots of activity all at once. In Armadillo, for example, if a bunch of guys ride past on their horses then the game will start to stutter - I'm guessing it goes below 20 frames per second.

On the console, Read Dead Redemption looks like a PC game running at a low resolution with every single graphic feature turned off. On my PC, if I were to run the game this way, I'd probably be getting 200 frames per second.

Admittedly, it's been almost 18 months since I bought my last 360 title - but wow, how can any console owner even dare to suggest that the console can compete with a state of the art PC.

Blunt but true.

Like you and I were chatting about: Only a person who has never been exposed to PC gaming at its best would disagree with this.

If someone has played Just Cause 2 or GTAIV maxed out on a PC with a GTX 480 or an ATI 5970 or whatever and then they come into something like this? It's not even close.

You might be further than me and I know you're on the 360 and I'm on the PS3 but so far I have not seen this yet myself.

It almost brings a tear to my eye fantasizing what the PC version of this game would be like. ;)

I can almost SEE it and FEEL it.

Again, the only people who would say that are people that never actually played a game on a good PC. You don't even have to go state of the art on a PC to have something that runs and looks appreciably better.

At the end of the day: You get what you pay for. A $200-$300 3 year old plus console just can only do so much.

It's a testament to how fun and awesome this game is that I'm tolerating the above deficiencies that we're talking about but I'm begging Rockstar: PLEASE...PLEASE bring this out on the PC as soon as possible without doing a rush job. You will make a lot of money. I'm begging you.

Last game i bought on a console was heavy rain and that game looked awful!

I really hope this game comes out on the pc. i am happy to wait until the end of the year for my dream to come true.

I think Mafia 2 will show people just how far superior a PC game is compared to the console version

The 360 demo for Arkham Asylum was the first time I noticed that the gap had really grown between what the PC is capable of, and what the console is capable of. Seeing Assassin's Creed 2 on the 360 in December widened that gulf even further. Just Cause 2 pretty much blows the hinges off the whole thing, and from what I've heard, so does Metro.

Any cutting edge title released from here on in, is going to look miles better than the console version.

It just makes me glad to have a Core i7 and a GTX 480.

I'm going to continue playing Red Dead, but this is the perfect example of how a game, in order for it to be great, really needs to be firing on all four cylinders - it's not just about the gameplay... it's about the gameplay AND the graphics... I keep on being taken out of the game because I find myself wishing that it had been released on the PC as well.

Out in the countryside, it's not that bad. But when you ride into a town the pixelation becomes insanely ugly. It's kind of a downer. :(

i too have a core i7 which i bought in day 1 along with a 260gtx card which still makes a lot of pc games look far more superior than teh consoles.

i only play soccer games on my ps3 nowadays. O and i simply cannot STAND FPS games on consoles

id hope your system looked superior to a console.. when you consider the fact that even the 360 its self is almost 5 years old.. but it just shows that while consoles are great.. the lack of upgradeable parts makes them obsolete within the first year due to the growth of game/graphic technology.. BFBC1 and BC2 are the only FPS games ive ever enjoyed on the console.. halo 1 2 and 3 were just complete garbage.. the button layouts for BFBC1/2 were perfect compared to any other FPS game ive seen on the 360..

its relevant because my cpu dont break sweat on a supposedly demanding cpu intensive game.

Get your seif a quad core then.

core2 have quads included buddy. which still run this game like shit, my point is that gauging proc usage with i7 is like saying, wow my pentium runs minesweeper at 10% cpu, what a great game. comparing stats that was released 2 years after the game, just to tell everyone about your awsome new proc adds nothing relevant, to those playing it on current hardware when the game was released.

core2 = duo/quad/extreme (conroe, allendale, merom, kentsfield, wolfdale, penryn, yorkfield)

Unfortunately for high-end PC gamers this generation of consoles is simply just not cutting it any more. Sure game play is more important than eye candy but at the same time ugly just makes it tougher.

It's like the ugly chick that's hot in bed. Sure you like the sex but it would be a hell of a lot better if she were hot.

Wow what in the world is wrong with your monitor/TV or 360? It won't be mistaken for a PC game on max settings, true. However if you are planning it on a console on a big TV it looks pretty decent for a console game. Sounds like you have something wrong with your setup to be honest. I also haven't noticed any major slowdowns.

Or it's like the chick with the intelligence and the personality - but physically she just doesn't turn you on.

You feel kind of shallow for even thinking that, but you can't help yourself.

This is the G rated version of what I was saying.;)

It was interesting to hear my friends at work today rave about the graphics on XBOX 360. Of course most of them haven't played a PC game in years.

Of course console graphics look good if you've not seen anything else in a while.
