Red Dead Redemption for PC?

I like how RDR1 is more then RDR2 on PC right now.. Please don't buy this.. the greed is real..

It's a good game actually, better and more enjoyable than the walking sim that is RDR2.

DLAA offers a softer and less detailed image at 4K than DLSS Quality and FSR3 NativeAA, whether static or in motion does not matter. DLSS is generally the superior method for upscaled AA now, whilst FSR3 NativeAA is the best choice in this game.

Areas to look at:
  • Building roof tiles
  • Foliage edges
  • Details on John's clothing
  • Window shutters
I did a comparison of all the AA/upscalers in the game and note that DLSS Quality has better clarity than DLAA at 4K, and FSR3 NativeAA is also better than DLAA.... IMO DLAA is slowly becoming obsolete against other NativeAA like FSR3 especially for older games remastered, or DLSS being the sensible option for the overall image quality along with AA. FSR 3 NativeAA clearly retains similar smoothness for AA to DLAA, whilst adding better sharpness detail than even DLSS Quality, so best of both worlds here, even in motion.

Meanwhile...

Well, damn, I wish I had seen your post sooner.

wait for sale...
When you’re young, sure. Wait for the damned sale.

When you’re 57 and last year you were in the ER because you had a heart attack and the trauma physician looked down at you and actually said, “Are all your affairs in order?” - then your life drastically changes and you realize how little time you have and how precious it is.

I would love to be young again and happily wait for a sale.

I’m not waiting for a damned sale!

you're not old...when you're 75+ then you can start 'getting your affairs in order'...until then do what you can to stay healthy and enjoy life

Just curious on your folks opinion on this. Price-aside... as someone who LOVED RDR2 (enough to do a 99.7% completionist run, 220+ hours, fuck the last 3 gambling challenges...) and who has never played the original RDR and knows 0 of the story of it...

Is this a must-buy? I'd almost buy it for the story alone just to complete the John Marston story-line, I think I could push past the dated graphics and the "clunkiness" (GTA IV era... I remember) interactions/physics.

I'm just super on the fence about 50 bucks. I'd almost rather do a quick playthrough of 2 to get the story fresh in my mind again then purchase later once some more of the bugs/quirks are ironed out (if they ever will be). I think i beat RDR2's story in like 80-90 hours, then spent another 110 as John in the post-chapters achievement chasing and such. My time spent in RDR2 was lop-sided for sure.

It's a for sure pickup at the end of the day, eventually. Got a living room remodel in progress I want to complete before I'd have real time to dedicate to it, but wanted to poll the [H] on their initial thoughts on this remake.

EDIT: I've been watching a few vids above on it and nothing screams "must-have" about them, but again, I'm more asking about it from the story-perspective (if that wasn't clear).

I think it’s a must play if you haven’t played it but you did play Red Dead 2 and loved it.

If you never played then it’s a must play.

For me I already played on Xbox and later also tried it on XSX for a while but couldn’t get into it again (I rarely replay games). However, for fan of the series, it is really an amazing experience.

Anyone playing this on the Deck? My Deck has basically been in my closet the entire time. Never really found the perfect game for it.

I'll probably play it myself as I liked the first game. But the price with minimal improvements is kind of lame. 14 year old graphics just make the game hard to get into, IMO. I can excuse older games as it doesn't bother me much to replay them for some reason.

it doesnt look 14 yrs old, i think they did a pretty good job for not being a full remake.
I've been wanting to play RDR forever but held out because I just enjoy the PC experience so much more than consoles. I'll buy it after some bug fix patches for $25-$30 even if that takes a while. $50 for a game this old is a bit much. Wish it'd have been priced more like a Nightdive remaster, but this is Rockstar. I'm thankful they finally brought it over and didn't give it the GTA "Definitive" treatment though.

same, but the emulation wasnt up to snuff for me so i waited, but i wont pay $70(can) for it....
and yeah, thankfully someone else handled this one.

I put it on my wishlist on steam and on epic, I guess it will come on sale once, so I'll buy it and then maybe play it, since I played rdr2.
I just don't understand the undead nightmare, what you get, do I have to buy it or what, I wouldn't take it.
Is it a separate part of the game or what? I don't know why? Out of 100% of the games in the entire market, 99% of them are horror or close to horror.

Decided to try it this past weekend since I had always wanted to. As mentioned above, the graphics do look good but I could feel that it was originally designed for consoles. Using a KB+mouse I had constant issues, particularly with riding the horse. After it came down to some challenge where I had to race an NPC on a horse and I kept losing, I just finally gave up. I guess with games like this the expectation is always better than the reality!

why give up when you can use a controller? like you said, its what it was designed for.

True, but I prefer using a KB+Mouse which is why I never bothered to play it on a console a decade ago
I don't even know how to play with a controller, I have to wait for it to be patched, rdr2 got a lot of revisions and fixes, so it will probably be the same with rdr

This game, on the deck, is phenomenal. This weekend. I might drop everything and just go with this.

Wow… this game… it’s got something magical going on.
Now this is a game worth doing that for ;) :).

Compared to this game, RDR2 is living proof of what happens when devs shove their heads too far up their own asses. It's better than RDR2 in almost every way.
I just wish they had ported it into RDR2's engine for this release (remake).

Also, playing at 4K w/ DLAA it's definitely the sharpest game I've ever seen. On a 1080p screen anyway, I didn't think there was anything better than 4K DSR.

How is that, isn't it a game that is the same as the old original only with new graphics or what? And didn't rockstar do the same? How could it be better than rdr2? How many hours of gameplay are there?
