Red Dead Redemption for PC?

Fast loading time (if they are just done with raw performance) is a big possible nice thing to have if it is there, that a big reason to not fire up an old ps3-ps4 for most big games and nice to have a pc version instead...

I'll probably end up getting it. I had a blast with it back in the day, and I liked the Blood Meridian vibe to some of the early sections. Plus, it has almost none of the annoying inventory management issues from the second game. Being able to rock out at 120hz with a decent view distance appeals to me as long it isn't priced like a new 4-star game.

Ugh… another must-play title to add to my ever-growing must-play list (not to be confused with my general backlog).

I’m drowning.

good to have on PC but isn't RDR2 the much better game overall in terms of story, gameplay, graphics etc?

The first Red Dead is much closer to "GTA in the Wild West." The second game is intentionally very, very slow paced and often cumbersome. It creates a hell of an atmosphere by the end, but it can be a slog getting there. I mostly despise the first 20% of RDR2.

I haven't played RDR2 yet...can you actually play RDR2 first and still enjoy the first game or does it feel too dated in terms of the overall experience?...or is it better to play RDR1 first?

That attitude is why Naughty Dog refuses to bring the rest of the Uncharted series to PC. I don't care about the graphics, I just want to play these games on PC where I'm not limited to 30 FPS and 720p or worse resolution.

They could have easily remade it on the RDR2 engine. With all the money they have it certainly would have been worthy of a remake considering its age. This is better than nothing, but it should be priced at $20 or so and not the $40-50 I expect they will ask.

RDR2 is technically a prequel to RDR1, but RDR2 works to explain the motivations of the returning characters from the first game, so playing the first before the second might be better. In my personal experience with other series that have prequels, I usually find it better to play them in order of release rather the story chronology.

I'm happy they are finally dropping this but waiting for the price. Really shouldn't be more than 20 or 25 max. But this is Rockstar..sooo yea...probably a lot more.

I think $40 would've been a good compromise, But they are dropping it about 3 weeks or so before the steam autumn sales...

I own the original one and I paid full price for it, so I have zero qualms using CDKeys to knock the price of this thing down to what I consider reasonable.

I paid $23.99 for RDR2 on August 30th directly through Steam. Even if it's $50+ at launch, it'll drop eventually.

When you’re at the end of your life… and if you have a savings… money doesn’t mean a thing. Your time, and how you spend it, becomes a precious commodity. Me, I want to play great pc games on kick ass hardware.

This has been a public service announcement for all the youngies out there. LOL

They're all 1080p/60 on PS4/PS5 in the Uncharted Collection..? I replay them every year or so. 😎

But yeah, Rockstar needs to be grilled for their lack of support in general. It would take almost no effort to patch RDR2 on current consoles to just run at 60 and they haven't done it or even hinted at releasing a current gen port of it. Same for GTA5 until a couple years into this generation after the game had been printing money since its launch, remaining in the top 10 sales charts until around then, as I recall. Absolutely no excuse for how much they made on those games.

Rockstar's games have always been quirky on PC. If anything, RDR2 probably runs the best of them. GTA5 still has areas that run like ass with top flight hardware. GTA4's even worse, and that game is 16 years old. I think when they finish a game, they make performance improvements for a few months and then they just shrug and back away.

This game is from the GTA4 era it could be a total disaster on PC.

I never could quite accept the pace of RDR2. I played it the first time for a few hours and set it down, second time got to probably 80% completion and threw in the towel. This one might be more my style, hopefully it delivers on PC.

... but it gets you the Undead Nightmare DLC to.

I hope it flops, not that they need the money. The game sold so well way back when. I hope it flops so they get a reality check. It is good they are bringing games to PC but a 14 year old game with minimal improvements to port it over is not worth $50.

Hefty specs for such an old game. That better be 120 frame rates at 2560x1440 or higher, or 4K. Imagine getting similar frame rates on this game with these specs as you would with something like Cyberpunk 2077. :ROFLMAO:

I'm not at end of life but probably older than 70% of the folks on this site. I get it, and that does make sense. But at my stage of life, I do have to prioritize where funds go...ya know with kids in college etc. :)

It's a 15 year old game... I beat this years ago lmao... 50$ for an old ass game is still a bad deal... if you're rich or poor.

It was a 14 year old game when it came out on Switch for 50 bucks. It's going to be 50 bucks.

charging $50 for an older game is OK if they made significant changes to the graphics engine or features (Demon's Souls on PS5 is a great example of this) but this RDR1 port doesn't look to have any significant graphical enhancements

I agree completely, it’s too expensive.

That said, this is a day one for me. I’ve never owned a console because I’ve always been blessed with a high end pc. The original Red Dead was a game I’ve always wanted to play on the PC and now, finally, the opportunity has arrived.

I’m actually pretty excited about this game.

$50 is close to full price, so no. $60-70 for a full on remake? Of course. For a remaster? $20-30 depending on how much effort was put into it.

EA got it right with Mass Effect Legendary Edition. If you're being compared negatively to EA Games, that means you're in a bad position. You're doing something wrong if I can point to EA and say "be more like them".
