Rage sucks

I don't understand why you guys keep buying games for $59.99. Do you not realize that STEAM and AMAZON have SALES on Thanksgiving and Christmas were you can buy basically any game for $4.99 or at most $9.99? Why would you pay $59.99 for a game? I think you got what you deserved.

And GMG. GMG dazzles me sometimes with the sales they get even on AAA titles and preorders. And Amazon beats out Steam quite a bit on sales prices, too.

Shop smart, folks.

That post is a year old. You couldn't get Rage for $4.99 a year ago.

I got Rage for PS3 about a year ago and never put much time into it until now. I'm enjoying it, some of the environments are nice, the driving feels good. But at the end of the day, it's Borderlands without the charm.

Anyone else find it strange that you resurrected a year old thread?

The OP is right.

Everything about this game is underwhelming. Let's start with the most obvious: it is a caterpillar that was birthed out of a console cocoon. No wonder it looks like John Carmack vomited all over a DVD. If even HE pukes up a console game and tries to sell it to us, then there's no hope for PC gamers. The Xbox is going on 7 (!SEVEN!) years old in 2013! Let's start developing for the PC exclusively again and wait for the next gen consoles? Oh yeah... that's why... $$$$$

The detail textures even though a good idea on paper, fail in execution just like communism. To me it really just adds grain and is not worth the horrid pop-in. The distance meshes and textures can't really even compare to flight simulators of the days of olde, distant buildings look blurry and honestly are far worse than the low-detail buildings Half-Life 2 used in 2004.

On my system, with a GTX 280 (1GB) card, and a Phenom II X4 3.6GHz processor the game looks bad and runs worse. The game will not let me enable 8k textures, and spits out some kind of error about not "having enough cores". This is just sloppy programming. Nothing technologically is brought to the table. No procedurally generated terrain, no global illumination lighting solution, and what is with this 2005-esque color grading that makes my screen look like shit green in shadowy areas?

Play wise nothing new either. Incredibly linear gameplay, scripted enemies. Now, I loved Doom 3, so I don't "dislike" linear gameplay, but I thought a more sandbox-driven environment like Fallout or Far Cry would give a better opportunity to explore the ruined and desolate world. I thought John's ingenuity would allow for some kind of dynamic enemy spawning or generation. Nope, I just run around through muddy color-graded corridors reminiscent of COD 2 and repeatedly click a pistol trigger hoping to hit something. What is this. I'd rather just replay Doom 3.

Just realized this was an oooold thread. Ooops. Couldn't help but complain since I wasted my $5 on a steam sale. This was the first result on google for "Rage sucks"

RAGE sale on steam. Pretty justified. Like warning people not to buy Blacklight: Tango down when distributors put it on sale because it's dead and the sequel Blacklight Retribution is a F2P game now. I honestly do not mind being reminded that RAGE is still broken and that I shouldn't waste $5 on it.

If he'd made a new thread I guarantee you at least one person would have had some snarky search comment and a link to at least this thread. You can't win.

And the most recent post in this thread before the necro bump was only a few months ago.

$5? Sure, folks, buy it. It's not a bad game. I'm eager to see what the future holds for Id Tech 5.

I'll reward mediocrity for 5$ if it's even a couple of hours of entertainment. Then again, therein lies the dilemma, fun vs frustration at 5$... I downloaded it but haven't even launched it yet, so maybe I'll have different thoughts after playing it or attempting to.

I still think the game looks beautiful, just not up close in many areas. I imagine lots of artists that worked on this are not pleased (anyone hear from them?) I've never been in rage over this game as I simply didn't buy it. For 5 bucks it might be fun to look around at least, but that's about it for me.

I'm looking forward to Doom 4, hope it turns out great, but these days (the past 10 years) I keep my expectations low and my wallet tight for games in general :p

I'm eager to see what fate awaits Id Tech 5.

If it's anything like Rage....

It sucked monkey fuck. That's all I'm going to say on that. Doesn't even make sense, but that's all I have to give it.

IMO, the iDTech 5 engine was good at delivering pure speed without point blank details. They already incorporated it a little into Rage, but I'd imagine it could be great for a racing game, flying game, or something where you aren't looking at things up-close.

I picked this up on a 50% sale earlier this year and I hated it. I think I lasted an hour before I got sick of everything. I didn't expect much but the game failed on so many levels. The combat was shit, the story was shit, the driving was shit, it looked like shit, the "I don't give a fuck" missions were shit...

If you don't have anything good to say good about a product it's best to say nothing instead.

You're trolling, right Cagey? I wasn't expecting something like that...

If something is shit, it should be called shit, right to the developers' faces. I'd want to know if I made a turd, so that I don't repeat it.

I agree with him.

Both the anger post RAGE and Crysis 2 was ridiculous.

And guess what, most the hate came from PC fanboys who complained about compatibility, bad graphics and other shit that has nothing to do with the gameplay.

Unfortunately even the gameplay in Rage is shitty.

Rage is good at $20 or less.

I beg to differ. Like was said the game is pure unadulterated crap. The story was horrible, the gameplay was extremely linear, the missions tedious, the driving boring, and had the worst letdown ending ever in the history of gaming. Everything about the game was generic, sloppy, and just plain lethargy inducing.

Daikatana was better than Rage.

So if you want to try it for $20 go ahead but IMO $5 would be all I would give for it if buying now.

I think I paid $10 for Rage...I haven't even gotten that out of it. I'll probably finish it one day but, more than $5 and I think you're overpaying at this point.

Rage is still on my "to play" list. But so are:
Bioshock
Deus Ex:HR
Dungeon Siege 3
Fallout 3
Fallout: New Vegas
The Witcher
The Witcher 2

And more that will come this christmas sale. So... it'll probably be a long time before I actually play it.

Bioshock can be beaten in a short run. In slow guy (ie me) time its an 8 hour leisurely stroll. You should knock that one out since Infinite is coming out soon.

Avoid BS2 like the plague its just like though fake Painkiller sequels. It's just more nothing.

lol you must be playing 10 year old games to claim RAGE is the best looking game on your system. maybe just sarcasm?

RAGE is easily the best looking FPS to date. And the best in gameplay, relative to other recent AAA shooters.

Steam says I've spent 20+ hours on Metro and Crysis games. Metro is utterly ugly and runs like shit.

Wow, this thread came back to life. I forgot about Rage...not that it's hard to figure out why.

Have you never seen Metro 2033/Last Light or any Crysis games?

Neither mentioned was impressive except Last Light which I have not played. Crysis amazing graphics cards for its time = yes, but it's old as shit now and imo not that good looking even with all those massively bloomed hd graphics mods.

Crysis had amazing graphics card? Does it still have these amazing graphics cards?

$5 isn't bad - it does have some entertainment value. I really liked the TV show section. I thought that was the best part. The rest was a lot of meh. Even the races were meh.

It's worth $5. It's definitely simplistic, but if you don't mind that - I had fun with it.
Compared to a few games that had a lot more "depth" that I quit playing after an hour or two (Metro for instance), I at least played all the way through Rage.
