Are you asking for the image of the gate that I drew on poster paper? I can't scan anything because I don't have a scanner. I can take more pics if you would like.

I had no plans to make a Z.P.M. since ColdZero is doing it for his Atlantis mod and I don't think I'm going to do part of mine Atlantis themed anymore. Speaking of, where are your updates!?

Sorry for the lack of updates lately. I got my cable internet back and spent most of last week playing UT2K4: Invasion or feeling like shit and the weather was crap too.

I went to the Blue Ridge Mountains with my GF this weekend so no work got done this weekend.

I put a little more Bondo on the res yesterday. Then I baught GTA: San Andreas and that has been occupying all my free time now. I'm practically broke now so I can't spend any money on any new parts I may need. I'll try to get some work done on the Res and update this week but I make no promises. Got bitches to kill and cars to steal! :D

Hi

Yes I mean the image of the gate. I would like it when you take more pics of it.
my english is not so good.

Sobek, if you want to avoid having to clean up the dust in your system, i would buy some cheap AC filter (it looks like a very thin sponge), then cut it in squares/circles and put them in front of your suck-in fans. (sanwiched between 2 fan grills, for example)

I am mentioning this because you might want to do something like that on the fans of your heater core. Otherwise, you might have to open up your case every few months to vacuum off all the dust in your heater core.

Dryer sheets work just as well and leave that oh so nice lemony scent. :) Seriously try them, I got the tip from a chick I know and it does work.

! ! !
Really ? I just might, and when it gets dirty, instead of cleaing it, i can just trash it and put a new one.. with a different scent :D

I'll take some more pics of it later. Keep in mind that it is just a planning guide. I could tell that your are not a native English speaker but I still understand you. Where are you from?

I almost baught some small AC filters when I was at HD. I'll try the dryer sheets instead. Thanks CrimandEvil. I'm still playing GTA for now though. :p

My PS2 has pretty much crapped out on me. So no GTA for Crim. :(

Yeah, I got another borked PS2 to help fix it (since that DRE trick didn't work for very long) and scavenged to laser from that but the borked PS2 was a different revision then mine (same series though) so now I'm pretty much screwed. :(

Sorry for the lack of updates recently. Here is what I worked on today.

I had to go back to HD to get some more Alu and 1.5" screws. I recut some of the Alu for the corners since the other peices had hols from the earlier box where the rivets went. I would have use them but they don't line up properly. I'll use them for scrap on other parts if I need to.

I was cleaning out my closet a while back and found a bunch of old mousepads I figured I could use as cheap sound dampening for the pump. I took the thick EB one and put some of it on the bottom of the box where the pump will rest. I took apart another and glued the rubber material to both sides of the pump.

These last few pics I just realized are blurry and I'm sorry about that. Must've been in a rush to take them or the lens is dirty.

Here is the back of the box with the piece of plexi held in place by the 1.5" screws. I was using 1" ones and they weren't long enough. I will paint them black eventually.

Two updated pics of the box with better cut Alu pieces.

I'm going to try and get the Heiroglyphic panel done this week. I want to try and get everything put together in the case in the next 2 weeks. I can work on the side panel later on and a DHD shaped power switch as well among other things. I just want the basic thing running.

I haven't forgat about you Dragon. I'll upload some better pics of the Stargate Drawing later.

That looks sweet but I don't need something so extravagant. I'm just going to put a red Bulgin behind half a ping-pong ball for the activation sphere and make the rest out of styrofoam and clay probably.

I'll look at your log in a sec as well.

I did a little more work today. I started working on the heiroglyphic panel. I've decided that it'll take me forever to make each heiroglyph and glue it to the plexi just to get the look of depth. Instead, I'm just going to use either a black Sharpie or paint on one side of the plexi and then put gold spraypaint over it.

I started sketching out the size for the vertical column thing that will go along the side of the panel. Then I started to cut. I had to stop halfway through cause I forgot to put my bettery back in the charger yesterday and it died. I want to make one of the escape capsules to go alongside this column out of styrofaom.

SGCase043.jpg

I went ahead and finished up making the Alu bars for the outer edges fo the box. I figured out how to make the lid as well but can't work on it anymore because the drill/jigsaw battery died.

I'll do some more tomorrow.

Update:

I cut the 4.5" PVC to the fit between the lid and the fan shroud. (pics are without flash since they come out better.)

Ancient Box 058.jpg

Ancient Box 059.jpg

As you can see there is a "lip" from the middle of the pipe that will hinder airflow.

Ancient Box 060.jpg

The Dremel would've taken forever to cut it out and it would have looked terrible so I clamped the pipe into my vise and used the jigsaw. After some filing here is the finished product. It will be painted orange to match the plexi lid that will go over it.

Ancient Box 061.jpg

Ancient Box 062.jpg

I made a few plexi pieces to continue with the column for the panel. These will be glued and painted gold later on.

SGCase044.jpg

I'll try to get the lid finished and some other stuff done on Monday.

Very cool. How are you going to attach the PVC? You've worked with JB Weld right? Since I'm here I was wondering something, do you think I can use JB Weld to glue together both Arylic and some "L" brakets?

I hate when the batteries die like that, I think my Dremel is starting to give up the ghost. :(

I havent read much lately, so you might have an answer already... If you were planning on having a moving gate, an easy and cheap way to do it would be with a clock mechanism so it would turn constantly (no fancy stopping).

Hmm, I would think a clock would be too slow, althought stopping it would be easy with a simple circuit to cut power from it. Now I can see making a rotating gate pretty easy... however having the chevrons move in/out would be next to impossible without some major work given the scale you are working on.

I'm going to glue the PVC to the plexi using that plumbers goop glue/sealant. It says on the label that is works on both so we'll just have to see if they're right.

I haven't used JB Weld before but from what I've seen others do with it and read about JB Weld, it should work for you.

I still haven't worked out how I'm going to make the gate yet and am saving the working gate side panel portion for the very end. I want everything else made first. The reason is that I am figuring that it will take a lot of time and energy (and possibly cost too) to make and I want to focus on getting the res, heatercore box, power switch/DHD, and everything else done first.

I too think a clock would move too slow. I don't think I'm going to have the chevrons move in/out at all. That would require way to much effort, time, cost, etc. esp. for something that is just supossed to look cool on my case.

I was just thinking that it would be so cool to use an Aqua Tube res as a means to recreate the look of the Gate. :) Something I'll have to look into later on.

I was thinking of using one of those either on the front panel in the 3.5 floppy bays as an "active" Stargate since the water would give the impression of a wormhole. I also thought about using another acrylic tube res inside the case with rings around it so that it would look like the transport rings used for ship to surface or ship to ship transport. I just decided it would be really cool to make a Naquada Generator res instead. Those aqua tubes are expensive too which is what turned me away from using one.

Update:

First let me post those sketches I promised Dragon I'd upload for him. They're posted as links since I didn't resize in order to preserve quality.

1 2 3

I just spent the last few hours working on the box.
I cut a lid out of plexi and then some holes for the fan exhausts.

Ancient Box 063.jpg

Ancient Box 064.jpg

Ancient Box 065.jpg

I didn't like the end result and I think that they will be a little off center as well. I'll wait to make a new lid when everything else is finished and in place cause as it is I keep changing a few things here and there such as in the following pics.

I didn't like how the top edges of the box weren't level and had different heights so I just cut them even. This will save a lot of time I think since I wont have to fill in the shorter portions with Bondo or something. I was starting to think I may have to cut a third set of corner vertical Alu since the current ones seemed short once that lid was on. Now that the top is about an inch lower due to cutting it even, I think I solved that problem and saved myself from wasting more Alu.

I cut some flat Alu for to be riveted into the top of the plastic box to hold it together more, level out the top, and just make it look cleaner. I made the rivet holes recessed so that it is completely flat for the lid just like I did on the previous version of the box. I only got halfway done when my drill battery started to die so I put it away to charge while I came in to update the log, eat some breakfast/lunch...whatever (it's 3pm :p ), and then play either GTA: SA or continue kicking ass on UT2K4: Invasion RPG. I'll try to go back to working some more in a few hours after the battery has charged.

Hallo

I thank ypu Sobek for the pics of ypur draws.

Dragon4000

I think the idea with the aqua tubes are very cool. You should look by ebay to get a cheap aqua tube.

 so...... beautiful......

MORE PICS!!!!!!

Small Update again:

I went back and did a little more work this evening. I finished drilling those rivet holes and put that temporary lid back on to do work on the side. I cut a piece of plexi that I'm thinking of putting on the lfet side to hide the exposed heatercore adn the cuts made into the box. I think this will be easier thah trying to cover them with glue, Bondo, or something. I'll probably put some sort of "Ancient" writing on the side and maybe one day put some LED's behind it.

I'd like to put some mock power crystals sticking out the side since I'm modeling this box partly on the design of a prop used on the show (see earlier post a page or two back). I already started to try this with some long glass rods that were part of a mirror I swiped from my GF's house when her family had a yardsale a few weeks ago.

Ancient Box 068.jpg

This is the other side with the heatercore barbs. I am trying to figure out what the hell to do here since I need to cover the cuts I made but need the barbs exposed. Any suggestions are welcome.

Ancient Box 069.jpg

More work tomorrow. Any ideas are always welcome and appreciated and as always, thanks for the comments.

starhawk, stop asking for pics! :p (sarcasm) A few pages back I stated that I always try to post a lot of pics since I feel that a lot of other modders never post enough.

(1) ok... i will shaddup about the pics... i just enjoy learning this stuff (i have yet to build my first mod and have only built one comp all told) and i learn well via pics.
(2) hmmm... don't want to use bondo... you could probably cover it with a radioshack project box...

Edit:  looked at the pics more...

nevermind about the radioshack box. they don't make 'em that big. your best bet is a custom plexi box over the plumbing there with wierd alien-looking pipes coming out ("power cables") with those power crystal thingies.

i have heard that resin is good for stuff like those power crystals somewhere... think it was one of mashie's matrix mods but i do not recall which one (he did 2).

Update:

I cut the barbs on the heatercore a little so that they were not curved slightly anymore. I don't think I will bother putting clamps on them when the time comes since they are pretty tight and when I put the actual hosing over them, they will be even tighter. I don't think there is room for clamps anyways.

Bonneville HC 033.jpg

I cut a pice of plexi for the side where the barbs and hoses on the hetercore are. Actually, it was two pieces since the first cracked in half while trying to drill holes in the middle to get the jigsaw through. I was pissed since i was halfway done with the first one and am running out of plexi and prefer not to have to go back to HD to get more. I went a lot slower on the second one and it didn't crack. Whew! :wipes forehead:

Ancient Box 070.jpg

Once I was finished with the initial cuts, I realized that my measurement were a little off so I had to trim some off some of the edges. I also trimmed the edges of the other side peice to make it fit easier.
I also realized that it would be easier to use the Alu from the Lid pice to replace the flat Alu on top of the box. I planned on cutting new pieces for the lid later on anyways and this way I can recycle the old pieces and use them to help hold the side plexi pieces on.

Ancient Box 071.jpg

Here you can see where I took a scrap of plexi to see if I can place it over the other piece to hide the holes more. It works well and I'll have to cut a piece to cover as much of this part as I can. I put the old plexi lid on to give a general idea of what to expect.

Ancient Box 072.jpg

I'm going to work on the "Ancient" writing and perhaps some heiroglyphic writing as well. I used to have some heiroglyphic, cuneiform, summarian, etc fonts installed in MS Word on my old computer so I will try to see if I can find the installer for them and perhaps use them as a template.

I was thinking of a use for the scrap Alu I have that I know will be leftover. I'm going to build a small matching box out of it and plexi to house all the rocker switches for the lights adn anything else that may need a switch. I'm not going to start on it till the big box is finished though.

starhawk, I was only kidding. Thanks for the help though.

not at all... i really was bugging you a bit much.

say, i have a d'ni font on my comp (the language from the myst series)... i can post a segment of that for you to use if you'd like, it looks really wierd.

Interesting, I'd like to see that font Starhawk. I thought you were going to use disconnects on the res box?

I just found a cool font website:
http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/4965/sffont.html

I would love to be able to use quick disconnects but I can't afford them right now. I'll just build without them and when I can afford them, I'll put them in the case and probably the box too. It'll give me something else to work on later on. :D

edit: Anyone know how to install these fonts. I assume you just drag them into a Windows directory but I don't know where for sure.

edit 2: disregard. I just had to drag the .ttf files into c:/Windows/Fonts

need to track down a thread i happened on about 2hrs. ago to post some info...

then i'll fire up corelcapture... should have an image of d'ni script up by 5:45-6:00 PM GMT-4, depending on how long it takes me to track down that thread.
