Project: Mission

The moss slate is my favorite of the 3. I like the textural contrast it provides without totally upstaging the woodwork.

That last pic makes Moss Slate look a lot better. I think I would opt for it too :)

the Almond Slate and the Moss Slate look great with a slight advantage for the Almond slate.
can't wait to see it finished.

I've been looking for ideas for my mod, and I must say the attention to detail and craftsmanship you have showed so far is blowing my mind. I will not be going nearly as amazing as you, but I think a few of the fan mounting tricks will come in handy.

I must agree with the majority.....Stay away from the brushed aluminum/stainless steel. Just my opinon, but I think it would disrupt the overall warm/earthy feel. In the end it is your to do with as you please. And if it's what you like, who's to tell you different.

Can't wait to see the next update.

even with the gap it doesnt look bad at all dude, still has a very clean look.
I like it! :)

Thanks. I have a plan to shim the bottom of the case to bring it up 1/32". We'll see if that works. I also have some very small square walnut stock that would probably look pretty good also. I suspected I was going to have to use it.

Not sure. The first thing that comes to mind is a pair of cold cathode case lights, either white or coloured to match the mica, evenly spaced on each side of the case.

That would certainly light up one of the four panels. I would need a plan to light up everything fairly evenly before I invested in that setup. No matter what, I would have to back up the very thin mica panels with something else like clear acrylic to fill in my 3/16" panel space.

I really wouldn't mind having you make my furniture... looks fantastic :D

awesome work dude, I like it alot. Very clean! :)

Mica is still on the short list but it is costly. I'm not sure about how to get an even lighting effect without resorting to some extremely elaborate lighting setup. Any thoughts?

Well, I think that since mica is so thin, you could use clear acrylic wired with colored LEDs of your choosing since acrylic actually disperses light quite evenly. Now the only problem would be finding LEDs that would fit in < ½" space, and building a reflective "caddy" for the LEDs so they shine only up not in all directions.

I'm sure it could be done with time, experimentation and money but I've got a contest deadline in 18 days. I'm thinking of going with a shade of red. I don't really stand a chance at winning the contest but I figure I can light it up. :D

Well either way, its sexy dude. Very good presentation on the case, although I must say, I dont see the moss shell anymore =[

Very nice none the less. Love it! :)

Im tellen ya, im in Brunswick, GA, we should do a project together lol

This is lookin fantastic dude, seriously.

And it must have been the light, sorry...... awesome look! :)

that is a pretty ingenious idea using an AC filter to catch dust! kudos to you. The woodwork on this case is awesome!

Thanks! I was thinking about where I would get some filter material and realized I already had a bunch of it in the house. Crazy cheap too.

I'm still sanding and re-applying lacquer. I'll see something I don't like and re-do the whole section. This will continue until the wife threatens an intervention. I can see in her eyes that the end is drawing near.

Last up is wiring and switches. I won't be doing any fancy wiring job mainly because there is no window in this project. I will be doing just the basic sleeving and organization stuff. There was a time in my life when I would braid and sleave the inside of a power supply...but I'm feeling much better now.

The power switch will be located on the back of the case. I actually kinda prefer it that way. Here is a photo showing the case's external liquid-cooling pass-through ports that are ugly and unused.

Pulled the rubber grommets out.

I have a couple of old vintage momentary switches left over from another project and I bought some stainless steel washers at my local hardware store.

The washers straddle and sandwich the cooling port holes and provide a smaller hole to mount the switches.

Thanks for looking!

nice dude, very nice. I like the older switches too, there very unique now, my case mod im gonna start doing on my old silverstone, im gonna use 3 of em myself.... But I like this man

Love it!

Skip, did you ever think about stealthing the DVD drive with a wood veneer panel to make the front flow a little better? I love the case as is, just the DVD drive kind of sticks out like a sore thumb given the clean lines of the rest of the case. Anyway, just tossing it out there, you might have already considered it.

heh, nothing wrong with that, this is a joy to see in this state bro.

Love it!

Are you going to stealth your DVD drive?

It looks great! I wish I had that sort of woodworking skill.
Unless if my monitor is not calibrated... the red looks a little bit too post modern red, not the 20s-60 red I'm thinking of.

The back of the PC looks incredibly 'busy' in comparison with the rest of the design. That's really the only negative thing I can say about it :)

You captured the 'Mission' spirit very well, I feel. It looks absolutely stunning and I, along with probably everyone else on this forum, wishes that I had even a fraction of your woodworking skills. It's a shame we aren't neighbours are I'd pop by for a visit from time to time ;)

Thanks for that!

I have a place to set our favorite beverages while viewing Watchmen in high-def. LOL Mind that you use the coasters..

If you didn't use coasters I bet you'd find a horde of angry [H]'ers on your lawn the next day with torches and pitchforks demanding your head for such sacrilege ;)

LOL

The back end definitely could use some work. I'm up against a contest deadline this week so compromises were made. I have plans to tinker with it this winter.

Bravo! Amazing work that is always a pleasure to follow.

Thank you! I appreciate that.

Love it dude, top notch work. Great roundup of pictures too, kinda shows how versitle the unit can be with different accents for every living room...... Now find an ikea retailer near you and sell this bad boy, make a product out of it! :)

Oh and the Moss and Almond work best with the chrome accents, the red and the red deco look off with chrome. But the moss and Almost seem to accent the chrome almost, so it adds a good flow to the project.
