Project: Mission

Pics down? I don't see a Silverstone or anything else.

Why not pop rivet the pieces back together?

Why not pop rivet the pieces back together?

ISP had a minor stroke or there was an earthquake in Cali...not sure. lol

I have always associated pop rivets with low quality...I'm not sure why. Seems like cheating to me.

rivets are good for pieces that will never come apart again (actually probably better, because there is no chance of them coming loose over time). but if it has to come apart ever screws or bolts would be the route i would take.

It's a Coolermaster Mystique case, I think.
I've followed your scratch builds previously and am looking forward to what you have planned for this case.

You make it look so easy... Small-scale, tight-tolerance woodworking is tough...

Small-scale, tight-tolerance woodworking......

So that's what I do. I always wondered. LOL

Cool. Waiting for materials, Should be an update next week.

While I'm waiting I have installed all the equipment into the case and tested everything. I'm looking for any interferences in my fan installation plans. I'm thinking of blowing out the entire bottom of the elevated case and put in a pair of 120mm in the top. We'll see.

Your mods always impress! Very nice! Might I suggest some mica for the panels with possible muted back lighting?

You're most welcome. On the green mica, I've seen the silver and amber (from woodworker's supply) but not the green unless you're referring to the high temperature mica (from mcmaster). I have a sheet of it in my modder's stash but I was disappointed to find that its not translucent.

I like the spokes very much. They'll go well with the dark of the walnut. They remind me of the leading in the glass that you see on Mission style inserts or lamp shades. Perhaps instead of solder points you could use small wooden block with an inlay ala an Eastlake pattern.

Maybe too contrived though.

What about floating blocks ala a lattice back chair? Possibly weave the stainless steel into a lattice?

The other thought would be to flare the stainless steel like a windsor chair and float your logo in the middle of the flare. Not really a flare but this is similar to the float idea.

Hope it helps. As you can tell, I'm loving the mod and will keep watching. :) [/delurk]

interesting work as always

i imagane the wood will not only look great, but will lower the noise coming from the system as well?

Depends. A wooden construction can either dampen or amplify sound waves. The sound box of a guitar or a piano for example is designed to amplify. I can't really say whether the design of this custom case will dampen or amplify.

can't wait to see how this ends up. This is just nutty, all the effort you've put into it, and it's paying off.

I like the chrome in the front bro, adds a nice looks, and with those spokes that you got as well, it would actually give it a killer look, your wife may not approve, but eh

Especially since this is in the Mission style, I'd opt for minimalism. Often less is more, with sheer craftsmanship adding more to the design than all kinds of doo-dads and fluff :)
