In most cases I would totally agree with this statement, but when you are trying to make something look slightly less bland than usual, you cant always keep true to a full theme. In all the cases he has made, there is always something that makes it stand a little more out than usual, which is why I always subscribe to his threads. In this case, adding that little bit of chrome to the front gives it that pop-out feature, while still mantaining the essance of missionary style.

I give mucho props bro. Keep it up...... Oh and the second pic looks killer!

i think if you do both metal bars (horizontal ones) above and below the dvd drive(i think thats what it is) it would look pretty good.

like the bottom one is here, then lower the top one down. it will accentuate the already horizontal feature of the dvd drive opening.

just a thought, and probably worth a look.
 
I was going to say to add 2 more to frame the spokes. Top and bottom of each spoke section. Will tie the metal together as a unit I think.
 
Im in love with this case man. The routes youve taken to get it this far and to look this nice, headaches as they may seem have defenitly payed off so far dude! :)

Now, in the words of a crappy 80's (I could be wrong on the time frame) song.... More, more, more!

Man, this is an awesome build...you are a true craftsman. It's great to see a blend of woodworking skills mixed with technology.
 
Dude, I have an idea.
Instead of something "contrasty", try something a little more coherent to the room the systems going to be in. For instance, if your computer was to be say in the livingroom and the livingroom walls are painted a light blue or something, and the trim color for the room is a dark blue, put dark blue as the front of the system to give that contrast.

Just my idea! :)

That has been the idea all along. The red is just a temporary thing for photography. The walnut matched my hardboard color and the photos sucked.

I will be doing at least two different panel types and am soliciting ideas. My personal favorite (so far) is raw galvanized steel. Second is brushed stainless. Things change everyday though. Thanks for the feedback.
 
Personally, I'd shy away from the steel look. So far, you have a fantastic, warm look, and I think that too much metal would spoil the feel, and you'd lose the visual impact of the chromed pieces. I love the idea of the fabric, since it complements the warm feel of the wood quite well and draws out the hardware.

That's just my opinion, though.
 
I love that there are different opinions. I can swap out the panels in less than 30 seconds to whatever I want them to be. The point here is that you can make it whatever you want. Change the drapes...change the computer to match. Take it to a LAN party and swap out the left side panel for clear acrylic. Light it up! An earlier suggestion was to use back-lit mica. The options are truly endless.

It looks OK, it probably matches the mission style, and if it matches the rest of your living room, go for it - but it wouldn't be my choice. I think the backlit mica panels discussed above would look really sweet...
 
I would suggest putting Velvet in there, like red, root beer brown (don't laugh), or purple.
 
I could see it among the furniture among my grandmother's place. She coincidentally has a bit of Mission-style furniture herself ;)
 
If it matches the decour' of the living room and accents the color scheme its a go go go. If it dont, than the wolves will tear it up.

Keep it up, looks like your nearing the end of the outer-case boxen.
 
Like has been said, if it matches some throw pillows or something, ok, but I feel it is a bit on the busy side and detracts from the clean lines of the case otherwise. I liked the solid panels or the mica ideas much better - that way it accented the case instead of trying to upstage it. Just my .02 worth, but you did ask!
 
I'd prefer the most simple texture of Almond Slate, TBH. Fits better with the more basic form of the surrounding construction :)

The Almost is a simplistic texture but its not defining
The Moss is incredible looking and would give your case a nice touch.
