You want the truth? It seems rather strange you've got a surround sound system, but not setup in surround sound format. :p

To SysteX:
What speakers are those? Do they sound good? They look really nice? And also what amp are you using for them? Thanks.

Those are actually the infamous Insignia NS-B2111 speakers from Best Buy. Not a bad purchase for $46.

I'm running a VERY OLD LaFayette integrated amp as a preamp (it's the old looking, larger, brown box with the light) and an AudioSource Amp Three for 150w x 2 channels (it's hidden under the desk). All together, it's not a bad budget system. ($46 for the 'Sigs, $250 for the Amp Three, and $2 for the LaFayette at a garage sale...)

They are indeed, unshielded. However, I haven't had any problems with their proximity to that amp (though I am only using the preamp section of the integrated LaFayette; not sure if that really makes any difference...).

Moving back to the parents in a couple weeks.

Here's my in between setup:
laptopsetuphu2.jpg

Logitech X-230s, Audio Technica A900s, and I'm using an audiotrak OPTOPLAY usb soundcard because the dell onboard is all kinds of foul.

i just have some cheap stereo plugged into my computer then these huge soeakers pluygged into that. it sounds awesome as hell.

In other words it's a piece of s#17!
I have a Dell laptop the O/B sound buzzes and crackels like there's no tomorrow, even worse when plugged into a 1000 watt sound system

Nice Setup, simple but effective, what kind of speakers are those?

thanks. thats exactly what i was going for in my setup, simpel and effective. the speakers are jensen brand, and the sub under the desk is an optimus pro sw-12 12''. these babies rattle my entire hosue at half volume. they sound incredible too.

The second I plugged my a900s into it, all you could hear was the hard drive seeking. That crap had to go. The OPTOPLAY is surprisingly good for the price. Fairly clean sounding output and has no problems with the a900s or my MS-1s

Amps/preamps or audio components besides tape decks are not affected in any way you can hear or measure by the weak magnetic filed generated my the driver's magnets.

Even the sub too close to the PC myth is as real as a gramma tale, the only negative impact you will have and a major one,CRT's have to be at a resonable distance.Of the picture will be grosly distorted.

a little off topic.. but since this an audio forum..

I took a pic of my alesis monitor and ran it through rasterbator to make a huge pic for my living room wall...

Well, that's unique. I think that's the first time i've seen someone do that for home decor. ^_^

I wonder if someone would print actual wallpaper in that pattern. I could tone it down a lot and do what I did with my desktop background (creepy, no?) or just leave it bold like that.

hey guys, this is my first post--
Athena F2.2's (yay) with a crappy 100 watt Yamaha sub, hooked to a measily yahama reciever, which goes into my Xi-FI Platnium, will eventually upgrade to better gear.

Too much sony for my taste. :)

I have the full set of the same desk you have and you don't have the support wires installed on the back on the desk.

My question is, with the teeeeeny center channel, what kind of surround speakers are you using? and how does it sound?

too much sony because i "salvaged" these components + speakers from my garage.

it was collecting dust and i thought i'd give it life again just by getting some decent front speakers..

i originally had gigaworks s700..after finding these lost "gems," i thought i can spend as little as $40 (insignia) and surpass my $200 setup.

i'm in the process of selling s700 so i'm actually gaining $150 with better setup than before..

so yea this is strictly "budget" system.

i like to stretch my legs out while i'm playing games and those supports got in the way....so i got rid of them :D

are they needed ?

center sounds flat out bad and so does rears. when i was watching a movie, voice sounded weird because the sound signature was so different from my insignias..

though it doesn't really matter since i use this setup strictly for FPS games/ music/ web surfing...i got the surrounds so i can pinpoint where enemies are..

as for watching movies, i have a different set for that :)

Which H/K receiver is that. It reminds me of mine, the 635. I'll post my setup this weekend when i get back home. Its waiting for me, in the boxes that i sent them home in.

And its a lot of sony, but the mega cd palyers are nice. I have one too, though it doesnt get much use now that the home theater is connected to the puter.

Hey all, my first post :)

Here my setup, so i finally went with receiver+bookshelf speakers instead
of pc speakers i always got, boy am i glad i did this is so much better then
my z-5400 which i used before, which are crap btw, for music anyway.

I got the wharfedale diamond 8.2 which i've currently hooked up to my old
akai stereo, still have to get a receiver though, was thinking about getting
the denon AVR-1706 but i'm not sure yet.

anyways here the pics

Back at the parents now which means a new setup. I switched the surround setup to be used mostly for the PC since I usually only watch tv eps on the tv.and the consoles don't do much surround that's worth dealing with. Details in Sig.

Heres my setup for the summer, will be basically the same at school in this year. Speakers are DIY Foxtex FE127E in a folded monopole MLTL. Design came from DIYAudio reference project. Wood is 3/4" birch, and the grills are 120mm fan grills bent and screwed on, because I have little brothers and friends. Powered by SI T-AMP. Damn clear and nice speakers if ya ask me, just built them a few weeks ago, been too busy listening to take photos til now.

You keyboard is Almost as dirty as mine.

haha yeah, Ill do some cleaning when I get back own place, but this little cramped desk is in my brothers bedroom while the parents remodel the basement, thus trying to keep anything clean is futile.
