Got a Shanling CD-3000 on Monday. I turned it off and unplugged it for now as there's a storm in NY. =T

Haha, thanks. I probably should have taken a better one (since that one has glare on it), but I thought it was cool nonetheless.

Thanks!

oh well...great pic nevertheless...none of us are perfect:D how you like em...and what amp you using to drive em?

I've heard them at different meets, but that was less than ideal to judge, so I ordered them. I'm actually quite surprised at how they sound. I'm very happy with them. They are about the same quality level as my moded Darth Beyers, just different.

My home setup is:
Audigy 2 ZS > MHdt Labs Paradisea+ DAC > HeadAmp GS-1 > 'Drew modded' DarthBeyer V2 / Sennheiser HD650

Solid state?? i heard that that angles the hd650 towards the cold and brutal side....im gonna grab the millet hybird prolly for my 600's

Haha, think of the GS-1 as just a wire with amplification. My source is plenty warm enough. Though, I do have a tube amp on the way, and will have to see how I like it.

And what does it mean to be on the brutal side? I've never heard that expression before.

Towert7:
So the real question is which bass do you prefer? Darth or Senn?
Particularly with rock music.

Ah! Now that's the question!

So far, the Senns have more bass slam, I can feel the quickness to the bass. The darths have more weight, I can feel the prolonged energy of bass notes. The senns are more neutral, with the Darth's being more pernounced. Tough call really, and at the moment I don't have a clear winner. Remember though, my Darth's are altered by myself, so this is not a comparison with stock closed Darths (which sound like 2 subs on your ears, yuck).

Latest additions :D

I just bought myself my first Dremel :) So I finally got round to cutting a hole in the end of an old tobacco tin I found in my late grandfather's garage, which fits my MD recorder quite snugly. I stripped the rubber off a piece of power cabling to cover the metal edge.

Headphone amp has dual LM6171 op-apms, headphones are Koss PortaPro & Koss SparkPlug (modified).

towert7: i ment like its not forgiving...sort of like midrange solid state vs tubes...tubes make it warm and make the music more enjoyble (IMO) while solid states amplify with this brutal adhesion to detail...some like it...others like me dont

David121: whats new?...im pretty sure the transport isnt....

Lost eden: is that a XP?

Finally got the wood faceplate on my amp, so I figured an update was in order.

I just need to get that volume knob on there at some point and I'm all done. ;)

I haven't a clue what one of those is, so I doubt it! I bought it on eBay from a guy in Germany who designed & made them, he has a website but no longer sells the precise model I have. All I know is that it's got dual LM6171's & sounds a lot better & is much better made than my self-built Burr Brown 2032!

The XP was designed and built in the US by Mister X. It is better than your penguin amp

Oh my gooodness philodox, that is so amazing! I assume SWT61 did the work?

I especially love the wooden box that is on the top middle part of the amp, stunning!
He really should sell his stuff.

Is the XP the only amp Mister X is no longer making? Or did he stop making amps entirely?
Anyone know?

He still makes amps. There's just nothing low end which interests him atm is my guess. That XP amp was a sweety though.

I enjoyed my XP while I had it-passed on the love to another [H] member for an upgrade, though.

Speaking of that upgrade...I haven't actually purchased it yet :(

yeah, I've found myself using a laptop more frequently, and I just got a new laptop, so I'm hoping to sell my XP and C&C box, both of which are excellent amps for the money and get something a little better. I've currently got my sights on the meier move as it has a built in USB DAC. we'll see though.

My equipment rack is almost done. Once it is I'll post some pics of my setup... including a couple new toys :D my SinglePower PPX3 and ArtisonAudio RD11 E TT

I just picked up a dual 9v pimeta w/ recharger circuit from MisterX a week ago.

soloz - Thanks Jacob! I am sure it will find its way down to NY at some point or perhaps Chicago if the next National ends up being there. ;)

viper - Thanks. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. :)

tangent - LOL, I love the ignition key... that is not changing. The knob I was talking about is on top of one of those big metal motor run caps on the left side of the amp. It will be replacing the simple black metal volume knob that I have on there right now.

towert - Yeah, Steve did the woodwork and looser101 [Renato] spent the whole day Saturday helping me get everything installed. I really like the transformer cover as well, thanks. He really does sell his stuff... though he always gives me great deals since we're friends.

I just read on headfi from oicdn that mister x cant make the xp due to the discontinued board used in it. Glad to hear he hasn't stopped entirely. He's on my radar for the future...

David121: whats new?...im pretty sure the transport isnt....

What do you mean? The phones and my GoVibe I posted about before.

Everything else is new. bought the 0404 usb and the KICAS prototype amp a couple weekends ago, and a buddy from head-fi did the cables for me. Sounds a million times better than my Audigy 2. Yesterday I also found an old junky Apex AD-1600 in my basement. I think the laser tracking was screwed up, so DVD playback was hit-or-miss. Has a digital out though, and works perfectly as a CD player (even plays HDCD format).

Philodox, Jay right? It's Yale, we met at the Toronto meet. The amp looks great with the faceplate attached, but I still don't know why you got it with the ignition switch. It will only lead to your parents/mates/significant others to mess with your addiction ;)

Also didn't know you were also a Dream Theater fan. Next meet I'll be bumming all your reference CDs to flip through ;p

Thanks, and as for the ignition switch... I suppose if someone really wanted to they could turn it off while I was listening, but they could do that with any amp. It does prevent people from turning it on when I have the key though. :D

Not sure if/when that will come in to play. ;)

Who's a Dream Theater fan?
Actually, I'm not completely sure that I am yet. That is my first album of theirs and I've only given it a few listens. I file away my CD's in a couple binders... the ones that are out are just recent purchases. :)

hey, im a noob in the computer audio department, and I just got a macbook pro... I need a good headphone solution for gaming and music... i was wondering what are some good sites that review headphones and other computer audio equipment... thanks
