You forgot to apologize first :p

Welcome to Head-fi.
We are sorry you have to read so many posts from people that have never used the equipment they are offering opinions about but this is the home of the "I never heard it but" reply. :p

I was sent there with roughly a $200 budget. I wanted a pair of HD595s, and was sent to compare other options before I pulled the trigger. I have been a member right about a year, and to date have spent over $3,000 on headphone stuff. Of course, through selling, i've made some of that back, but I have still spent a shitloat more than I ever thought I would. Most of it was thanks to Jahn too, but he at least gave me a "Sorry abour your wallet" :p

Not sure if/when that will come in to play. ;)Actually, I'm not completely sure that I am yet. That is my first album of theirs and I've only given it a few listens. I file away my CD's in a couple binders... the ones that are out are just recent purchases. :)

Ooo, Awake is your first Dream Theater record?

That's not a good one to start out on-it takes a LONG time to appreciate it. However, once you realize just how complex and beautifully composed the music really is, awake really starts growing on you. I personally think it's their best work (along with I&W).

I would recommend picking up Images & Words right away-it is a Dream Theater classic and has some of the best songs they have ever written. After that, try to get into the newer stuff. Scenes from A Memory is fantastic-a pretty big kickback to their first three albums. Six Degrees is a little eerie sounding, but I love it. Train of Thought is extremely, extremely heavy-easily their most 'metal' album. Octavarium is probably their weakest album, but it has some really catchy U2 and Muse sounding songs-easy to get into. The newest, Systematic Chaos, is definitely an epic journey-I would recommend picking it up as well.

Don't stop listening to them-they WILL grow on you.

Haha funny to come back and read this as my setup is now as follows:

RS-1
Main Amp: MAD Purist HD
Portable Amp: LDM+
interconnects
flash mp3: 2GB Nano
hard drive mp3: 80GB iPod

Have kept the KSC75's as noted but traded the DT770's. I'm a prophet, what can I say?

lol I'm just a junior in college working over the summer at an IT internship. Like I said, I've really only spent about $1600 rather than the $4200 but I have done a lot of buying and spending :)

I'll eventually decide between the RS-1 and RS-2 and have the following:

RS-?
Main Amp (Heed CanAmp or MAD Purist HD)
Portable Amp (Little Dot Micro for now, may Portaphile later)
interconnects
flash mp3 (2GB Nano)
hard drive mp3 (60GB iPod Video)

I'll probably keep my KSC75s and DT770s for other use, but hope to really only keep the better of the two RS series as my main cans.

PX100w

70's style

Senn HD650

A retake I did on a previous photo.
Personally, I am very happy with the way this came out.

We now have the same Senn headphones, Towert7 :)
Though I have black px100. But close enough for rocknroll.

Though looking at your pic, it becomes clear we do not have the same digital cameras, lol. I have a stone age digital camera with no manual light balance/exposure/iso whatchamacallit.

Beautiful pics;)

Thank you!

Yea, that's cool that we have the same phones. I really like the two of them; really worth the price for both.

grabbin a zahlou soon..balanced outs and mods here i come

just get a zap-filter for the zhalou... honestly its pretty good bang-for-the-buck... i have put zap filters in a few dacs for some head-fiers and they are really nice...

i put one in my Behringer DEQ2496 and man its seriously night and day (and i did compare since i have like 5 2496's lol) it can play with the big-boys now :)

nice HD600's too... love those, although i always thought the paint job on the head-band was kind of cheezy but it makes them unique...

a new cable will really help them out too... i did my HD650's in mogami and they sound quite nicer now... the cable sennheiser uses is really really crappy... i dont know how they can put that on such nice headphones as the 6xx series etc

Thats a pretty wicked hangar you have there. Noice.

hahaha..thats my window crank

well the zhoalu im getting has a discreet head amp....zapfilters are what 200$+? gotta pace myself here:p

and im planning on a cable upgrade...diy of course...solid copper..and terminated in XLR until i feel like blowing money on a blue dragon (i couldnt find your cable...is it diy as well? link me plz)

I had a set of Audio Technica W100s in my possession last night that I was selling for a friend.

I was so tempted to keep them all to myself. Less low end than my denons, but the highs are much more clear. They almost remind me of a closed HD650 (the bass isn't up to 650 levels though).

I need to find a closed can that sounds the same as the 650s since I can't use open headphones 99% of the time (damn outside noise!)

Haha, and here I was thinking to myself how simlar the HD25-1 II is to my HD650.

According to others the K340 sounds quite close to the HD650, but I don't hear it myself... then again, I don't really like the HD650. :)

The K340 that I had was very far off from my HD650, and it leaked a lot of sound in. Maybe I had the bass light version, and they think the bass version sounds like the HD650?

Ok...i originally thought that my amp was wayy too bassy...but the only thing that was screwed up was my source...both CD-P's i tried today made my x-fi sound muddy...bass happy..and just a bunch of EWWWW

using a technics manufactured in the later 80's

Yup I am getting a bass heavy K340 sometime this week. I had a really good K340 previously but it was bass light until I got an SQ-84 amp lol. The SQ-84 is $$ but damn it brings some SLAM. That damn amp weighs 32 lbs!

In order of purchase:

1) Koss KSC75
2) Sony MDR-V6
3) Accura SR-660 (...Only found in Big Lots)
4) Audio-Technica AD700
5) Altec Lansing iM716

In order of preference, it'd be the same list but the Audio-Technica would be at the top. It's almost a lil' too bass-lite for me, but the soundstage, mids, highs, and comfort are AMAAZZZIINNNGGG!!

The only other headphone I desire is the Darth Beyer, and then I'm done forever!!!

For someone who, based upon their previous purchases, seems to be a bang-for-the-buck buyer, the Darth Beyer is kind of out there...

Not to mention the fact that the AT's have too much bass for him. Darth's are pretty and all, but they are bass monsters. I did not like them.

He said the AD700s are bass lite-which they are. The next model up, AD900, definitely addresses the issue :D

towert7 - That's the problem with the K340's... they all sound different. :(

Yeah, but what about the other issues? :p

Yup... I figure there needs to be at least one be-all, end-all headphone in my collection. Head-fi got me addicted to a custom Darth with Zebra wood stripes... Mmmm...

The Darth is tops in comfort, sound quality, AND looks to boot. Considering I spend more time with headphones on than I do driving my Corolla... I'd consider paying up to a grand for the best headphone around. The Darth is only $350.... pretty sweet, IMO.

Viper thinks the darths suck. I've gathered that the midrange bass drowns out the rest of the frequencies from what he's told me.

I say go for a AD2000 instead-talk about a be all end all headphone, eh? :D

I woudln't say they suck, but I would never own a pair. They are beautiful in craftmanship, but the buck stops there. Nothing against Larry, these cans have a lot of followers for a reason, but I just did not like them. Not that I don't think you should get them, but I think its one of those cans it would be a good idea to here first. I would suggest trying to make your way to a meet and hope someone brings a pair.

Viper is dead on. I mean, seriously, if you are not one of those people who would drive around town with 10,000 watts of one note bass, the Closed Darth's are a serious question.

Oh my goodness, when I got mine right out of the box, they sounded soooooo awful! Really, it was like two subs on my head, and not much else. The mid bass was way too much for me, it had a horrible reverb quality. I was lucky though, and found that if you plug up the holes along the cup where the cables used to go through, you can eliminate most of the mid bass reverb, but it's still there a slight bit. I used adhesive putty. They did look nice, and were ultra comfy.

I've come to prefer my new HD650 over the darths, and I don't reach for them unless I need a little more isolation. The HD650 are cheaper to boot.

Oh, and if you do end up getting the Darth's, make sure you at least got 1.5M cable.......... I would recommend 2M for most applications. 1M is very small.

I got an Audio Tecnica ATH-A900 brand new :]

I've tried them for gaming ( Counter Strike ), music, and movies .....

Their just lovely and does everything i want them to ;)
