Haha. What kind of headphones are you wearin? My first "reputable" pair was some Olympus...er...Optimus 35 or 45's from Radio Shack. They were basically Koss Sportapro's and were a wonderful headphone...til my dog ate them. RIP lil guy... :(

Check the sig, after joining Head-Fi I'm wearin' portaPros out of a CMoy. Parents don't like the idea of me spending my hard earned money 100+ dollar headphones, even if it's what I want to do. Right now I'm trying to convince them that the AKG k240s is not a bad buy, especially since I found a website with a great price.

 Isn't that the point of it being *your* hard-earned $$$?

Uh, yes. In fact, the reason I worked so hard to earn the money was to buy said headphones, but they still won't let me.

That really sucks. Mine let me do whatever I want with it, although they let me know what they think while conceding it is my cash.

Ask your mom why she spend over $100 on shoes. If shes like my mom she'll stammer, then try to make up excuses, then be like "don't question how I spend my money". Then all you have to do is say "Exactly."

My justification for wasting money has always been "would you rather i spent it on drugs or headphones/video card?"

As long as Theres SOME emergency fund somewhere I havnt had an issue with it after that.

Yeah, I even made sure to make extra money, so as to have some left over until soccer season starts up (I referee), but they are still being whiney.

What would they do if you just bought it? Thats nuts for them to have that much control over how you spend the money you earned.

My last frivolous purchases were a Tiffany necklace for my girlfriend and an AV710 for me. :)

I rip myself off. :(

I am sure you got more than a AV710. :D

Lmao! Thanks for all the quick humor guys. Reminds me of Shacknews comments. :p

And to the guy that's mom wouldn't let him spend xxx on headphones: You have a good mom! ;)

At which point she can say "so you'll be paying for your own college fees, then?"

At least, if she's a _smart_ mother. :)

well, yeah, but he'll have his headphones!

Is it just me, or is this thread getting a little off topic, with all these dominatrix college moms?

Where are the pictures?

Soon as I get some AKG k240s I'll post some pics, but my current rig is on one of the previous pages.

Still trying to work out the bugs with the tube amp I am building, but here are a couple rather large pictures of my primary headphones... One | Two

Daaamn, philidox, tha k340 looks sexier every time I see it.

So, does the greenish ball on top of the audio equipment improve sound quality? ;)

Oh, most definately!

It is the Prevaricate Technologies Sound Equalizer Mark III. Basically, it affects the music at the quantum level. Stray sound waves are collected in the bubbles and redirected into the audio signal. Makes a huge difference with my Dynalo!

LOL, actually, it is just a little bauble that my Wife picked up at some point. It has a fair amount of weight to it and helps me prevent my Dynalo from being pulled off the rack by my headphone cable. Since it is built in a cigar box and has an external [wall wart] PSU, it does not have much of its own weight. ;)

Receiver is an Onkyo TX-SR303, got it refurb and I love it. DVD Player is also a refurb, Samsung HD-841. I had to quickly throw my pimeta back together yesterday; i'm turning it into a portable for my Shure E4. Since the board isn't here yet for the Milley Hybrid i'm building, i'm sort of stuck with no amp for a while. Not flattering to the DT880s at all. @ 250ohms they're a bit much to drive unamped.

got the same receiver also... did you get it from JR refurb? cause I did.. for 79 bucks.... in the pictures online, the receiver looks dull and ugly.. but in pictures like yours.. it looks much sharper

nice cans BTW hehe

Another one rides the bus huh?

You know if you had asked I would have replaced that case for you. ;)

Speaking if which.... I have an extra front panel that is a perfect fit your PPA.
It doesn't have any holes or no scratches...
Just let me know If you want it and I will drop it in the mail.
If you twist my arm I may even drill some holes in it for you. :p

Code:
|-------------------------------------------------------------|
| O 0 O |
|-------------------------------------------------------------|
                           LED
dial-o-Bass /out/ volume

Something like that may look a little better. :)

HD600's baby. Right now I'm running them off the front port of the audigy...it sucks...

I'll be picking up a digital reciever and B&W 601 S3's this summer.

I always thought the jack on the back of the card sounded better then Headphone jack on the live drive with the Audigy series cards.

Yep :( I really liked what it did to the KSC-35/75, but it was just too much to carry around, especially when jogging. I was mainly using it as a bedside amp, but now that the RS-1 + RA-1 are on their way I really don't have a use for it anymore.

You know if you had asked I would have replaced that case for you.
Yeah, Psycho said you would, but the cracks really don't effect the structural integrity and I didn't see the need in bothering you with a trivial task like that. Thanks for the generosity though :)

Is it silver? I do like the way you set it up originally though, its easy to use and doesn't look too bad. But, I would love to have it look like your PPA #30 (http://www.members.aol.com/x86inside/PPA/30/fronta1.JPG)! That is sexy :) Too bad there isn't enough room left in the parmetals for the circuitry :(

Expect some pics of new gear next weekend. Should be recieving:
Grado RS-1
Grado RA-1 (real, not clone)
HEAVILY modified Parasound 1500 DAC (http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl?dgtlconv&1144290211)
Glass toslink
Van Den Hul MainsStream PC
Heartland Cables interconnect (Belden wire + copper Bullet plugs)

lol.
That is one of the main reasons why I quit building Pimeta's in those Serpac cases.
It's like they are either to big or the battery died to quickly and to me that made them a poor bang per buck option.
Of course the plastic case thing had a lot to do with it to.

Did you happen to notice that Morsel and AMB are planning on using a similar enclosure for the Mini3?

Yea.
And it still has the standard brushed aluminum finish.
I like the shiny front on your amp.... well.
Except for the fingerprints because they kinda sucked. :p

hehe, room in not a problem cause they are both the same size case.
The machining for the front for the amp with the LEDs was like $60... do you think it's worth it?

Nice....
Well, except for the RA1 but a simple opamp swap can help fix that in short order.

Mister X Custom solid state amp with Power supply and Modded Head Phones.
A little pricey but worth it..

It's the case badge that make it work.

A few more mods and it will be complete

sr1255sk.jpg

Just bit the bullet today on a pair of Grado SR-125's that I've been lusting after for almost a year, was thinking of picking up a different pair to accompany them.. that or put together an amp.

Currently I have no source, too... I'm absolutely MAD,I tell you!

New toy. :)

A MisterX MINT - just arrived today. :) I'm giving it my initial listens, but so far everything sounds cleaner and better extended on my Grado SR60 when compared to the amp in my Monsoon PlanarMedia 14's control pod.

Thanks, MisterX. :):)

EDIT - just wanted to say that MisterX was a pleasure to do business with, and this amp arrived sooner than I thought it would. On the sad day I decide to spend more money on this stuff, you can bet I'll be talking to MisterX again.
