   Those are amazing cans. I thought the same thing when I saw them over at head-fi. I will be posting up my HD555, which are coming tomorrow!

mrprez: they're HP-2s, part of the first headphone line Grado ever made (the others were HP-1, which had a phase switch, and HP-3, which were supposedly less well driver-matched versions of the HP-2s, but according to John Grado in practice they're more or less the same). Designed by Joe Grado when he still ran the company. I've never heard them but the sound is described as very different from the John Grado sound - much closer to flat. They're long out of production and EXTREMELY hard to get second hand (most of those who have them really like them).

Blue tak modded my HD280s. The bass in rock music really seemed to come out, bands like Audioslave and the like sound much fuller now, and it didn't seem to affect the mids or highs at all. A friend of mine with unmodded 280s is going to bring his over one of these days so we can A/B them.

oo, be sure to post results - sounds like an interesting mod. (no pun intended)

the black knight always triumphs!

Should i use a headphone amplifier on HD280's connected to my Sound blaster X-Fi Sound card?

Why not? If you don't like, it grab yourself a cheap amp for $50 on head-fi used forums. :p

if you have a soldering iron, i'd recommend building a cMoy amp. i built mine for ~$25, and it is great. took maybe 3 hours to build/debug/tweak, plus waiting for parts :p

Yeah, I agree, the CMoy amp is a great project. Fun, relativaly simple, extremely gratifying, and tangent has a great tutorial. Build one, you'll love it.

So my K1000s arrived today.. will take pictures later..

Awaiting arrival on a pair of Omega IIs too

My apologies if i'm mistaken, but i'm gonna reserve believing the above post until I see some photographic evidence... that comes from you, and not elsewhere ^^

You do realize that akwok is a head-fi'er with deep pockets, right?

Sorry, I'm still a n00b over at headfi -- so, that wouuld be a no, i wasn't aware that he even existed outside of being listed as being a newbie here at [H].

You must admit though, that post taken @ face value, is rather questionable... :p

Maybe I spend too much time at Head-Fi, but that post was "just another Head-Fi post" to me. :)

The Head-Fi and [H] overlap is pretty big, it would seem. I'm both here and there too. :D

Totally OT, computerpro3, but how did you get "lightningrod" next to your name? That's not one of the 'ranks' is it?

Umm.. yeeeah.. I do have K1000s (what's so hard to believe? the K1000s aren't really that expensive, at around $600.. where as I've posted mint HP-2s, L3000s, and HE60s in the past (each above $1k and close to $2k).

Here are my K1000s:

Omega IIs should arrive in two weeks or so.. I haven't exactly ordered them yet, since I just bought a Grado HP-1 on eBay last night.. so I'll have to sell that first before I buy the O2s.

And uhh. If you want a picture of the K1000s with a slip of paper of my name on it, I'm too busy at the moment to make one. Instead, please refer to these pictures of my HE60 setup, taken a few weeks ago, and you can clearly see that it's the same desk/headphones/setup as in the picture above.

Congrats man :) I was going to grab those if my check came in before the auction's end, but alas it didn't. Enjoy!

My next post here will be with pics of a new RS-1 + PPX3 SLAM + Van Den Hul MainsStream + yet to be decided IC :)

Can I say akwok is close to being a Headphone God??

That K1ks ... So Sexy... what online stores that cell those?

Well.. they became discontinued a few months ago, so vendors are selling them at much higher prices than before. Headroom sells it for $999 at the moment, I'm sure you can haggle with them down to $850 though..

All these 200+ dollar headphones make me so jealous. I want some!

Haha. What kind of headphones are you wearin? My first "reputable" pair was some Olympus...er...Optimus 35 or 45's from Radio Shack. They were basically Koss Sportapro's and were a wonderful headphone...til my dog ate them. RIP lil guy... :(

back when I was into the power supply game like I'm now into the headphone game, I wrote several sticky's ranging from modifying psu's to a list of "reputable" ones. Now, understandably, hundreds of noobs that bought ultra X or DEMON UBER 1337 RED LED power supplies were pissed off that I didn't include them on the "good" list. The lightning rod is a custom title bestowed upon me by an admin because I brought life to the PSU forum; hence, I was a "lightning rod" of activity.

Sennheiser HD280pro

how many ohm is the above? I done my homework when I look for foldable headphone as I use it at the gym. And didn't see HP280Pro, unless it came out just recently. As I have to go w/ Sony V900 back 2+ years ago. What yr. is the 280 come out?

The 280 is 64ohm. A quick Google search tells me it came out on 11/1/01.

well, there is a high impedance version at... um... <checks manual> 300 ohms. those are the 280-13's, as opposed to 280 Pro.

well then, I didn't missed anything then. I probably have seen it before, and skip it due to the high impedance. My sony is either 19 or 20 ohm, which is just right for connecting to portable CD/ HiMd.

64's not that bad. Quite a lot of people use 280s direct from portables.

Look thru the past 20+ pages, why does some members uses the iPod w/ such good headphones? The iPod is compressed sound recording. I uses the Sony MD, which also compressed sound recording, but recently w/ the new HiMD, it is totally PCM uncompressed recording, and the sound quality is superb because it is an exact duplicate from the cd.

Most likely those iPods aren't feeding on compressed audio. I would assume they are using a lossless compression method. Apple Lossless is great, that combined with the iPods lineout feature and a good amp will put many full blown home systems to shame.

I love my Nano and ShureE4, combined with Apple Lossless makes it impossible for me to tell the difference between a PCDP and the ripped lossless on the iPod.

But can you record an uncompress, original PCM signal from any music CD to the iPod? I thought all iPod takes in compress song format only, not PCM.

Lossless is lossless, it's not compressed, just changed to a different filetype. If you feel that's not enough, the iPod will take WAV aswell. Install Rockbox on it, and you can play FLAC also. :)
