A few weeks ago I emailed Nintendo about getting a Wii component cable. I told them I really wanted the best picture from launch day. Well today I got this email...

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Nintendo regarding your desire to purchase the Wii Component Video Cable. As you inquired about having the Component Video Cable available when the Wii launches, we are extending to you an exclusive offer. We have made a limited number of the cables available for purchase prior to the launch. The cable will cost $29.95 USD and $35.95 CDN. Expedited shipping is available for an additional fee. There is a limit of one Component Video Cable per customer.

To order by phone using your credit card (Visa or MasterCard), please call our Consumer Service line at 1-800-255-3700. Representatives are available to take your order between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time, seven days a week. Our representatives can also provide mail-order instructions if you would rather pay by check.

Please note, if you would rather not order at this time, additional cables will be made available to the general public via our online store on November 19th ( http://store.nintendo.com ), and they will also be available through selected retailers in early-mid December.

Nintendo of America Inc.
Consumer Service Department

I got this email at 5:16 pm, Tuesday, and was on the phone at 5:20. The rep put me on hold and got back to me once his product database updated. According to them the retail cables will not be out until December. Mine should be here on Friday. :D

Any one else get this email? I know it's real as I got my cable on order, but wondering how many people are getting it this week.

Huh, I'm pretty interested to try this out.

I also am pleased to discover: the Nintendo store has S-video cables for the SNES

And for the N64 too ;) They all used the same A/V connector, so I hooked up a set of the S-Video cables to my monitor and run the N64 & SNES off it.

That's pretty cool though...you could turn a tidy profit perhaps buying them in advance. ;) The Wii cables that is.

Yeah, I forgot they use the same connector. That's pretty tempting, too.

I just wish somebody had made component cables for the dreamcast. I have an s-video for it, but my gaming tv only has component, no s-video :(

I've got an update for everyone interested in this:
I just called Nintendo to order a set of the Wii component cables and was greated to a message saying all phone lines are busy and if you are calling about the Wii component cables you can now order them online at:
http://store.nintendo.com/componentvideocable

Yeah, I called, went to the webpage and got mine ordered. Many thanks to the original poster because I refuse to play my Wii without the cables. 480i on a 90" projector screen doesn't look the greatest :p .

So I was not the only one calling up for this. Thanks for the update and I have this feeling that Nintendo underestimated the demand for this cable!

Mine apparently says backordered as well :(

I wonder if I can call and change that... I did spring for Red service. Is there any hope that there will be 3rd party component video cables at stores on release day, if not Nintendo brand?

I believe there will be Mad Catz cables.

I just spoke to Nintendo and asked them about the backorder status. They said that even though it says back order, that doesn't mean that they don't have them and there is still a possibility that it might ship before the end of this week.

Heh, $60 premium cables according to EB/Gamestop. I don't consider anything from Madcatz to be premium :p

Good info, thanks... mine too says backordered, hopefully it's incorrect.

i ordered a set and they should be here before sunday.

the product page says the following now :
"Due to high demand, our initial allotment of the Wii Component Video Cables has been depleted. We expect to begin shipping again the week of November 28, 2006."

at first mine said back ordered, then a few hours later it changed to "preparing order"

about 5 minutes later i got a call from a lady at nintendo(i emailed them asking to cancel my order since they were back ordered) she said that they werent back ordered and asked if i wanted to keep the order placed(of course i do).

i dont think they expected this much hype from these cables

Hopefully, they'll realize that more and more people want the things and will have them in stores by the time I decide to go buy one early next year (I still can't bring myself to participate in a console launch).

Just because it says that the cables are pre-ordered doesn't necassarily mean they are, at least if my prior experience with Nintendo is any indiction. I ordered GameCube component cables from them online in the past, and at the time of order they were back ordered, but I still recieved my cables 1-2 months early. Let's hope they've got enough cables produced for everyone.

So after hunting a Wii I'll have to hunt/wait for component cables? UGH this bites. Anyone know how the Wii will handle audio? Will it use a standard optical audio or what?

Damn you to hell ground loop. I wish they had Optical this time around, but since its similar hardware...grr. :(

Just got my tacking number, and I ordered at 5:30pm on Tuesday. Glad I got fast shipping on it. I know that they may be third party cables, but it was the "may be" part that got me to freak out and order these from Nintendo.

I don't have a WII preordered and probably won't get one on opening day, but I still ordered a cable. I want them ready and waiting when I do finally get a WII.

Damn, I was just about to order and it says they're sold out :(

Order one anyway. I have ordered other sold out items and they have always been shipped out earlier than they said they would. Unlike some other companies ;) Nintendo usually underestimates how many they have in stock.

Ordered mine yesterday after seeing this post. My status says backordered. Would have been nice if my GC component cables would work with it. Hopefully will show up soon. Be nice for those people who ordered post when theirs come in, so we can get an idea what turnaround is.

AARGH!

I ordered mine a couple days ago from gamestop.com cost me 43 and change with overnight shipping they says it won't ship until 12/15/06 :(. Funny thing is i don't even have a Wii pre-ordered yet...guess i'll just get one after i get the cable.

finally, mine are shipped and should have my cables tommorow :D

Does anyone know if Wii S-Video cables will be available to purchase at launch? I really don't want to come home to a blurry composite Zelda experience.

I ordered mine, though it will probably be backordered. I can deal with 480i for a week or two.

It will make the transistion all the sweeter.

Am I the only one who'll go back to composite for a few hours, and then switch back to component for all systems to remind himself that 1. the cables were worth the cost, 2. the game looks better than it really does? ;)

I just got a SHIPMENT notice for my order placed a couple days ago (see my other earlier post in this thread). WOOT :)!

Supposedly they're going to be made available in store, but it's not going to be immediately at launch, so you may have to wait until December.

Anyway, I finally have a tracking number for my order, but can't actually track it, so I'm assuming it's ready to be shipped and they're waiting for the delivery company to pick it up from them. Hoorah!

Unless I can pick one up at the first or second store I hit (which are right next to each other) on Sunday morning or sometime I might just skip all the Wii launch hype and wait until I can get the console and cables all at the same time. I can wait a few weeks for Zelda...
