Official Galaxy Nexus Thread

Anyone notice their Nexus taking a long time to charge? Mine takes about 5 hours to fully charge and it is impossible to use while plugged in. It gets ridiculously hot. It shut down Angry Birds after 10 minutes while charging I'm guessing due to the heat. I'm only getting about 6 hours of moderate usage out of the battery.

Outside of the battery life, I love everything about this phone.

My guess is that you have a faulty battery. If you have zero issues otherwise with the phone, I would ask for a new battery before exchange the entire phone.

My phone does not get that hot and charges very fast compared to previous phones I've owned.

I may go exchange mine and grab an extended battery as well. Where did you order yours from?

Got mine in the Verizon Wireless sale.

Not sure if it's still going on though. It re-directs me to another page now. I know the B&M stores were participating in the sale too though as a lot of people posted in the forums that they got the same price in the store where they got their phone.

Mine charges stupid fast. Only 1-2 hours to go from completely drained (i.e. shutdown) to fully charged. Not sure if this is because the battery doesn't have enough cycles on it to have good battery data or whether the battery just charges fast (I used the OG Droid charger btw, not that it really matters)

Just added it to cart and it drops to $25, I may pick one up.

Every store demo I have used is super hot and my own gets hot doing cpu/gpu intensive things (games).

Mine gets warm at most during the games I've played, but I haven't played any tower defense like Sentinel 3 that'll really push it. His is getting hot during charging though. That's definitely not right.

Agreed. There's also a pretty big difference between Sentinel 3 and Angry Birds. :p

Ya im going to swing by the storr tomorrow after work and see if they'll replace the battery for me

Why does the Nexus still lag in places? It's not all the time but it's noticeable.

I don't think you'll ever get a definitive answer on that. There was a thread on this recently though in the mobile subforum and it has a good bit of speculation as to why.

I find that most of the lag I see is from using legacy apps that probably haven't been updated to take advantage of hardware acceleration or even multiple CPU threads. Using core Google apps, scrolling and transitioning is damn smooth.

I think this is pretty on the money. Legacy applications seem to induce more lag than updated ones.

Go figure. My phone has held a charge the entire day so far. 90 minutes at the gym and an hour of solid use at work and it is only down 10%. Im going to try charging it tonight and see if it geta hot again. If it does i'll take it back but will wait and see.

Also ive noticed auto correct doesnt work. Ive checked the settings but maybe im missing something, any ideas?

so i got my extended battery today. Is there a specific process for charging it? Install and fully charge? Install, drain, then charge?

I went with install, drain, charge, drain, charge. Probably doesn't matter as long as you eventually drain/charge. :p

Well Samsung screwed up on is the GPU in the Nexus, the Galaxy SII is the newer better processor, the Galaxy-Nexus uses a tweaked Nexus-S GPU, can't understand for the life of me why they went that GPU in the Galaxy-Nexus.

Yeah? You really think that's why? And not because each process and call is treated with the same exact priority? Wasn't there a post on this already? Seriously.

Shut up with this nonsense already damn. You're worse than Chiu.

Exynos doesn't support LTE radios (the ATT SGS II skyrocket is not exynos based, either)

google chose OMAP to be the target platform for ICS.. the omap series they targeted uses the powerVR SGX 5xx series..

member from xda fixed swype for the nexus. it works great on portrait "and" landscape. now im a happy swyper on the gnex :) search for "swype beta for galaxy nexus" on google+ to find the apk.

Just out of curiosity, how many people use beautiful wiget on their phone? This is my first smart phone so i have no bench to compare to but with medium to heavy use i get about 5 hours out of the phone. I have the extended battery, and was expexting to get more time out of the phone than that. I also installed juice defender to turn off my wifi when the phone is asleep to try and help the battery.

I actually just uninstalled that app (BW) because I'm pretty sure it was keeping my phone from sleeping draining the battery. Also in the wifi settings there already is an option to turn it off when the phone is asleep.

I downloaded it but I'm not sure how I feel about a "hacked" apk. Anyone check that it doesn't contain malware?

One thing i noticed is that this morning my phone was dead. When i checked the battery usage it said that wifi drained my battery, it was 80% charge when i went to bed, but wifi is supposed to turn itself off when the phone goes to sleep. The phone is set to sleep after 30 sexonds of inactivity so im wondering if an app is keeping it from sleeping? The screen was off so i assumes it was sleeping but according to the battery log it was awake and wifi was on the whole time so my phone went from an 80% charge to dead in 6 hours with just wifi on. Need to figure this out and soon. I cant have a phone that dies every 6 hours the wife is almost due and i need rrliability moreso than coolness.

I have my WiFi set to always on and it would not kill the battery in anywhere close to 6 hours, even with background data on.

Something else is wrong. I would consider a factory reset and trying a day with very minimal apps installed.

Yeah, WiFi isn't really a battery killer. If anything, it saves the battery from what I've seen. Here's my phone unplugged on WiFi while I was sleeping one night:

Almost 10 hours connected to WiFi and only a 10% drop in battery life. It has to be a rogue background process of some sort.

See mine looks nothing like that ( fuck me why doesnt auto correct work on forums. Take forever to type shit) wish i knew how to take a screen shot but my wifi, awake and screen are all on and you can see the chart where it just takes a nose dive.

Right the only apps im running are facebook, 9 news weather, kindle, ndl moile, fantasy footvall, banking app, angry birds, moon chaser, and aparatus.

9 is alot? I had 37 on my 4s. Wait until i put my office apps and business apps on here. I thought i was going light just to see how the phone did.

Anyhoo, a quick google search taught me how to capture a ss so here is what mine looks like:

Like i said before, wifi is setup to turn.off while the phone sleeps and the phone is set to sleep after 30 seconds of inactivity. Doesnt look like that is happening thouhh does it? Athough i did grt to test the charging aspects from zero percent and with the wifi tuened off it had a 60% charge afyer 1 hour this morning which is what i woukd expect.

Also is there an auto correct function for browsers?

Just anither shot. Battery is losing charge while it is charging...sigh. i think this one has to go back

I havnt let it charge while off yet, but ill do that tonight. However, since i uninstalled that app my battery life has dropped 1 percent in the last hour. Tonight ill let it die and charge it over night while its off. After ill try reinstalling the app and report back

I don't want to go off-topic here but what the hell do you need 37 apps running for?

Is it true Verizon does not offer free mobile to mobile calls ? I use my phone alot for business and both Sprint + ATT have free unlimited mobile to mobile and doesn't matter which carrier you calling. I heard Verizon is free just between Verizon calling ? That's not good enough. Plus their plans are the highest priced of the four U.S. carriers.

I would be willing to possibly switch from Sprint's crappy 3G network but no way if they don't offer free mobile to mobile calls.

Free calls to Verizon only. Most of my friends/family are on Verizon anyway (much better service in my area).

Yes, they are the most expensive, but you generally get better coverage and LTE is much faster than what the other carriers offer (not sure about AT&T's LTE). I was getting 29.44 Mbps/10.79 Mbps on a speedtest the other day.

This is true. Verizon doesn't do free mobile to mobile. But calling other Verizon phones is free. They do have a "my circle" thing though if you have anything but their cheapest 750 min plan where you can add 10 numbers (regardless of cell or land line) and it won't use your mins when you are talking to those numbers.

I'm happy with that; I pay $130/month for 1400 mins and unlimited everything on two smart phones and very rarely use over 100 mins/month because of the circle thing. I got that deal on a promotional offer they had going on last year though, so you wouldn't be able to get that. Verizon is the most expensive because they're the most reliable and largest/fastest 4G carrier available nationwide. You get what you pay for, IMO.

Also, why would you want to leave your precious Epic Touch with its superior display and GPU..? :p

Thanks for info. I love my Galaxy SII best device I ever owned. Even compared to my buddies Galaxy-Nexus. But Sprint just blows lately, 3G is dial up modem slow. I would be willing to switch for the main reason of better network. But no free mobile to any mobile is a deal breaker. I call so many different clients a day shock could be using any carrier it would cost me much more.

ATT changed thier plans this year to free any mobile to mobile, surprised Verizon did not upgrade plans as well. Oh well...

Just got back from the store with a new battery. They said their port couldn't even detect my batter so looks like that is where the fault was...hopefully Also grabbed my the otterbox defender case. Looks nice and doesn't add a lot to the phone at least that is my intial impression.

Z - Do you get the LOS "loss of signal" problem that a lot of E4GT Sprint users are reporting? I've had my E4GT for almost 2 weeks and the LOS hits me 1-2 every day. I even rooted/upgraded to EL13, but it hasn't helped. I'm actually considering jumping to the AT&T version which doesn't have this problem.
