Official Galaxy Nexus Thread

Z - Do you get the LOS "loss of signal" problem that a lot of E4GT Sprint users are reporting? I've had my E4GT for almost 2 weeks and the LOS hits me 1-2 every day. I even rooted/upgraded to EL13, but it hasn't helped. I'm actually considering jumping to the AT&T version which doesn't have this problem.

Ever since I switched to the Rogue kernels have not had one LOS ever. Right now my best rock solid setup is Calk's ROM 2.0.1a + Rogue 1.3 kernel + ICS theme 1.9.3 by Overstew. Phone is super fast and butter smooth, awesome battery life, and no signal or network issues ever.

Wow, I'm definitely gonna try your cocktail mix on my phone. Thanks for the tip!

Just a warning. The markets setting to update apps only on wifi doesn't always work. I noticed my phone was warm in my pocket. I pulled it out and it was updating the apps over 3g even though I had update only on wifi checked. It blew through 43mb of my 150mb...

Calk's ROM is known as the best for our phone. And the theme by Overstew is fucking amazing and cool, can't imagine this phone without his ICS theme, it is a MUST have, plus it goes along well with Calk's ROM.

9 is alot? I had 37 on my 4s. Wait until i put my office apps and business apps on here. I thought i was going light just to see how the phone did.

Anyhoo, a quick google search taught me how to capture a ss so here is what mine looks like:

Image

Like i said before, wifi is setup to turn.off while the phone sleeps and the phone is set to sleep after 30 seconds of inactivity. Doesnt look like that is happening thouhh does it? Athough i did grt to test the charging aspects from zero percent and with the wifi tuened off it had a 60% charge afyer 1 hour this morning which is what i woukd expect.

Also is there an auto correct function for browsers?

Just anither shot. Battery is losing charge while it is charging...sigh. i think this one has to go back

Didn't quote your images, but that awake time is the culprit. If you have root and the spare parts app you should be able to have a look at "partial wake usage" in battery history to identify a misbehaving app. I believe betterbatterystats (one word) on the market can give you that info too, though it's a paid app. I don't own a GN to try it out myself. As some others have said before me, having wi-fi on all night, in my case at least, is usually better for the battery. It appears to be pretty power efficient when not transferring data. I tend to see more battery drain with my phones (N1 and NS) maintaining their 3G connections.

Another thing to consider is that if your wi-fi is set to turn off when the phone sleeps, and some app keeps waking the phone up, your phone is dropping and re-acquiring both 3G and wi-fi connections repeatedly. That may show up in battery usage as "cellphone standby" and/or "android os." I'd look for the next largest user of battery (besides the screen) if partial wake usage doesn't get you anywhere.

Keep us posted, good luck.

Just out of curiosity, how many people use beautiful wiget on their phone? This is my first smart phone so i have no bench to compare to but with medium to heavy use i get about 5 hours out of the phone. I have the extended battery, and was expexting to get more time out of the phone than that. I also installed juice defender to turn off my wifi when the phone is asleep to try and help the battery.

I had their clock and battery monitor on for a while and was using it without issues... I got 40 hours out of my first extended battery full charge with it on.

you are limited to 150Mb? That's insanity. They shouldn't even offer a plan that low with these phones.

They don't offer it anymore. That plan ($15/150 MBs) was only offered for a couple months at the beginning of 2011. Then they killed it off the day the iPhone 4 launched to force people to the more expensive $30/unlimited plan.

Are you sure? THey were offering it last week when I purchased a phone via amazon. Well it was 300MB due to double data deal...

I thought this was the case. I deleted my 9 news weather app as that was the only thing I could think of that would cause the phone to keep waking up. The battery ended up just dying so Verizon gave me a new one. So far so good on the new battery. It has held a charge since leaving the store and the battery monitor chart looks stable. Not sure if it was the app or a faulty battery, but right now it feels and runs the way I felt it should.

The $30 unlimited is a far better deal even for a casual user. It's peace of mind, not having to worry about data usage or rouge apps. Never skimp on data services for a data-centric device.

Cool, thanks for the update. Gives me something to keep in mind if I have weird problems whenever I'm able to get my hands on one of these.

Yeah, that's a different plan that they just started and the double data deal doesn't apply to (it's normally 300 MBs too). It's $20/month too as opposed to the old $15/150 MB plan too.

I agree, there's no way I would be comfortable with 150 MBs a month with any smart phone. It definitely wasn't a good option for me, but AT&T offers a $15/200MB plan so I think Verizon should offer something comparable too. Options are never bad things.

Have you checked if you get a corporate discount for Verizon (or an carrier) from you place of work? where I work at we get the unlimited data even signing up for a new contract and a 24% discount on the bill.

Don't forget to update the modem too. EL13 is the current newest modem those above kinks are based off.
Well, something ain't right. I flashed to Calk ROM 2.01a + Rogue 1.3 kernel + ICS theme 1.9.3, but my phone just shuts down during the boot animation. Can't figure out why. :(

EDIT: I tried again, but did not install Rogue 1.3 kernel. Everything works great. We'll see if I get any more LOS errors. The ICS theme from Overstew kicks ass! :)

Forgot to mention.always install the Rogue kernel after the main ROM is installed first. But I highly recommend that kernel

I'll try installing the kernel again... after a full save of everything in its current working state. Any concerns about installing it AFTER the ICS theme?

No concerns, but trust me the kernel is the main reason no more LOS, it is very important. I am running EK02 modem, not the newer EL13.

My setup is this; a little older versions, but these are working rock solid perfect, have not updated to the newer files released this week, see no reason to.

- Calk's ROM 2.0.1a
- ICS Theme 1.9.3
- Rogue kernel 1.3
- Modem EK02

I wiped every everything and reformatted first of course in recovery, then flashed the ROM only nothing else, let the system reboot, play with the new ROM for a minute make sure it's all good. Then I go restart into recovery, wipe cache and wipe davlik, flashed the ICS theme, reboot...then the modem reboot...then the kernel reboot.

After all that, the phone should be working 100% perfectly, and in my opinion a better phone than a stock Galaxy-Nexus, no BS.

I have disabled VZW Backup and G+. My battery has stopped being chewed through and lte no longer fights with 3g and leaves me hanging with no data connection.

I normally use 20mb a month why pay $30 for something I don't use and wont use. I have wifi at school, home and work. Only place I need data is checking prices or a quick product look up in stores or downloading directions. Only reason I got a smart phone was that they offered the $15 plan. I wish I could use the phone without a data plan since I really don't need mobile data but they require it.

Okay, kernel installed and all seems well. :)

And it only took a new kernel, rom, flashing the modem, and an ICS theme.

And I'm willing to bet it's not netter than stock. My modded GN is is vastly superior.

And you need to start a thread about SII related crap and quit filling this thread with shit that none of us care about. This is the Galaxy Nexus thread for a reason.

Awesome :) that is exactly my setup and it rocks. Battery needs a couple cycles to dial in. Let it run down to zero without plugging it in before hand. Then charge it full while phone is off, and unplugged off charger when light is blue. Then right away plug back onto charger and wait for it to turn blue again, might take 10min. Then once blue turn on and go into recovery wipe battery stats. Then you will getting golden great battery life.

Try out the stock Samsung weather widget it is transparent, same with the digital clock too.

I'll do that battery cycling procedure over the weekend. I love the digital clock and will have to try the weather widget.

Thanks for all the tips. My phone is very happy, now.

Is that digital clock widget something included in your rom or did you download that?

That is from the ICS theme I am running. But it is based off the stock Samsung Digital Clock, just made transparent, with the blue day/date.

Ok guys, I'm glad you're having fun with your Epic Touch's, but you're derailing the thread. Please take it to PM if you want to discuss it further ;).

Can I delete or disable the VZW Backup Assistant? I don't use it at all and would like to at least disable it. How would I do this? (this is my first android phone but I've already learned a ton.) I unlocked and rooted it.

best thing you can do is go buy the pro version of Titanium Backup now that you are rooted. It will uninstall anything you want and will backup all your apps and app settings to your sdcard so if you decide you want to try a rom and want all your apps back and the settings for those apps to stay, it does all that....

To disable an app in ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich)

Open up your apps menu, press and hold on the app you should see text called "App Info" at the top.. drag the icon over that.

It should take you to a screen about the application, including an option to force stop it if it is running and disable it. Just click "Disable" and "Ok" to the warning it gives you.

You don't need Titatnium backup to disable that app in ICS.. so you may as well save yourself the cash and disable it the supported way.

Thanks guys!!!! Disabeled it in the Apps menu, I'll get Titanium backup too.

Do you guys think this phone would be overkill for a light user? I currently have a Samsung Alias from 4 years ago that I barely use. I don't make many calls or send many texts. I only really want the phone because I would like to watch a few videos before work without carrying an extra device. Thanks.

Rooted, running Android Revolution 2.1.2 with Nova Launcher over it.
What's everyone else running?

Also, is there anyway to delete the contacts that Google has synced and replace them with the ones from VZWBAsst? And, are there any apps/mods that make the volume+ button act as the camera shutter button?

Rooted and running Revolution 2.1.1. Got several mods installed too. Trying to decide if I want to mess with 2.1.2., or wait for the next version that will be based on the latest version of ICS.

If you're not having any problems, I'd typically stick with it until a bigger release. But, on the other hand I'm thinking about installing Zygot2 or Bugless Beast ;)
