Official Crysis 2 Thread

I completely agree but it looks like in spite of the hyper-negativity of some PC gamers Crysis 2 is doing ok on the PC, 14% of it's sales in the UK were boxed PC sales, which is probably no more than half of all PC sales if you count digital distribution. So, please, please Crytek don't abandon the PC! PLENTY of PC gamers appreciate good and fun games and it's not like we need fewer titles on the PC.

Yeah, I'd love to see a console play this game at Extreme @ 5760×1080 in 3D.

This is my favorite reply to the "article":

thepaleking said:
Yes I had to stop playing the game, and promptly vomited, when I realized there were only 1021.3 pixels per liter of 23rj xRam. I didn’t buy 5 GPUs and 6 monitors to play a console game.

I almost ROFLOL! This is basically the best satire of the very real Crysis 2 debacle over graphics and especially the API used!

Crytek just can't win and I wouldn't be surprised to see them ditch the PC market, because of this and the Crysis 1 debacle.

I wouldn't see that as much of a loss. It's not like they're Looking Glass, Bullfrog, or one of the myriad of other companies that made good games and still went out of business. :p

Poor AI compared to what? Can you name any other shooters with wide open areas and intelligent enemies? Most games have enemies that either just dumbly charge towards you and can spot you in a bush from 5km away, or they just spawn and stay behind one bit of cover and pop out periodically until you kill them.

Most games? I would say all FPS games are like that.

I don't play online FPS games, so it was a shock to my system when I played Call of Juarez Bound In Blood's multiplayer. I couldn't believe how fast people were. It just highlighted how the offline artificial intelligence isn't intelligent. That said, for the sake of fun, I don't think I would want the NPCs to be that intelligent.

Also, has there been any word about a possible expansion pack for this?

i can't tell if this article is written in a sarcastic tone, or the author is being genuine. "hey look at these crates. when you stand at a normal distance from them, Crysis 2 appears to look better. however when you MEGA-ZOOM TO 11 on the texture you can clearly see Crysis 1 is superior."

sarcastic article, i take it.

Ignore those comparisons. Parametric mesh generation isn't really much of a limiting factor between PCs and the PS3 given the different joule tolerance of each platform.

I can't believe you actually believe the words you're typing. You couldn't be more wrong.

The parametric mesh generation capacity of the PC platform is vastly superior to that of the PS3 because of the PC's ability to perform logarithmic line balancing functions on the hyperbolic geometry. The joule tolerance is a non factor.

The drivel being spewed in this thread is sickening.

That's the kind of nitpicky garbage spewed out constantly by PC elitists. At equal resolutions (720p or 1080p, and excepting 1080i) the difference is negligible in motion between platforms. The screenshots show the color downturn but only benchmark apps. are going to tell the difference unless your eyes are really picky.

I'm at the part where I just finished going into the hive liquid like 3rd level or something. I couldn't wait till I got my upgrades in. So far its really fun and I dont wana spoil more of it and save it to play it in 3d. Its really fun and the graphics are nice. Duno why they're bashing the graphics

Halo reach has some of the best enemy AI of any FPS.

In legendary mode you'll be flanked, covered and barraged from all angles and you need to pick and choose who to go after first.

Grunts will trick you while elites will flank and come in from behind.
Enemy mortars will barrage you from above. And cloaked elites wait in hiding for you to pass so you can be assainated from behind.

$60 worth of fun with better graphics than Crysis 1?

Opinion of this game on the PC is VERY split, if you look at the Amazon ratings I think you get a sense of just how divided opinion is of this game: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002BS47YE/ref=cm_rdp_product

I'll be giving the game 5 starts, though I think it only deserves 4 because I think that the criticism of the PC version game is FAR too negative. Where the are all of the shooters better than this? Crysis 1? HL2? If you don't like the game fine, plenty of people do and we would rather have SOMETHING on the PC rather than nothing. If you don't like Cryss go play all of those other games that are better and those who like it will have their fun. Works for everyone that way without all of the silly as crap over just a game.

You're raising it's score because people were unkind?

Does that mean I should give it 1 star because you're screwing the results?

That's just it, people are already screwing with the rating. This game has 16 5 star ratings and 11 1 star ratings, simply makes no sense. Is it a 5 star game, probably not but it's certainly not a 1 star game either. I'm really enjoying it and it just works well with my 3D Surround so the 5 star isn't that much of a stretch for me.

this phenomenon is present in nearly all user-generated reviews. Overly emotional one way or the other. We just have to hope a sufficiently large percentage of unemotional reviewers give it products honest ratings.

Agreed. Logic, reason and humility are rare in this Internet Age. And now the enjoyment of a game, some PURELY subjective is trying to be proven by textures or polygon count.

I'd only give it 1 star because i cant give it less. Ignoring the graphics, the sound isnt even that good, The AI is dreadful. The only reason I would play it over Crysis is that its longer & cloak mode is better. Crysis was 3 levels long (alien parts onwards = star wars 1-3 or matrix 2 & 3 = dont exist). Other than that its just a rubbish FPS. I love stealth/sniper games but this is just bad. It just seems like Doom1 with extra respawns. I can understand why it says "A Ceval Yerli game".. it so people blame him not Crytek for selling a $5 game as a $60 product. Collecting nanoparticles is no better than mario collecting coins. Its a 1985 era game with a 1995 engine.

You agree with him that people should leave honest ratings yet you purposefully rated it dishonestly (rating it higher than you feel it deserves) to skew the overall rating upwards.

Your logic...I really don't think there's a human being alive who could even begin to make sense of it.

He said 5 stars "isn't a stretch" for him. For what that's worth.

I also understand the temptation to try to "un skew" skewed results by compensating in the other direction.

However, the fundamental issue there is, who is to judge which results are truly skewed? Again, the only proper way to review a product is to give an honest review.

Which usually results in an overall moderate rating (3-4 out of 5 stars, 5-7 out of 10 points, etc.)

Most of what I'm seeing from various user review sites is that this game is not worth $60 or even $40 unless you're desperate for a new FPS.

I think it's a safe bet that paying more than $30 for this game isn't worth it to most who played the first one. Gameplay seems to be the game's strongest point, but even then most reviews I've read say it comes up a bit short and is a letdown when compared to the first game. I guess that doesn't make it a bad game, but does anyone feel like they got their money's worth?

Actually it's,

DX9 cloak, line up target, uncloak, kill, cloak

They should have put a cooldown on cloaking, maybe 3-5 seconds to prevent this.

You forgot 3D Surround. And sure these are the basic game mechanics and guess what, people who buy games like this type of thing, I do overall. Crysis 1 was essentially the same thing except the cloak was pretty useless. And sometimes you can switch it up use armor!:D

If you ever come up with a DX 9 game that's only half as good I'll gladly give you $60.;)

Whinge much?

DX9... who cares. For the past 3-4 years or so we've been talking about how little of a difference it actually makes to graphics quality.

Cloak... that's your choice. The suit also has armour mode which lets you rambo quite a bit.

Kill... umm, ok.

Cover... maybe you should have killed faster so you dont have to go back behind cover?

I seriously dont get what you're expecting out of this game to complain so much.

Now I dont think this game is great, though admittedly I'm struggling to think of a recent FPS game that has a better SP. Sure, there are far better recent MP games out (BFBC2 and even the COD series). But I'm struggling to think of a game that has a better single player that's been released in the past few years. Though I think that's partly because there haven't been any good SP FPS games recently as Crysis 2 isn't all that awesome.

I wouldn't have bought Crysis 2, luckily a friend bought it so I can just play it with him ;)

DX9 cloak, kill, cover

While in other FPS it is camp, kill, cover, camp, kill, cover... oh it's the end of the game. But i played the singleplayer for 3 hours only  (this describes CoD, MW2 and BF BC2 singleplayer if someone has problem understanding it).

If you want something more complex, you don't play FPS style games, you know. How about wait few weeks for Portal 2 ? You will have to use your brain in that game if FPS doesn't fit your style.

And by the way, complaining about game style of Crysis 2 is not a bit stupid ? I mean, it's not like Crysis 1 was any different. Crysis 1 was too cloak, move, uncloak, kill, cloak, cover, recharge, cloak, move,...

Anyone surprised by Crysis 2 gameplay style should have their brain checked.

PS: You are not forced to use cloak. You can play Rambo style too, with Power armor and covering :D.

Well let's examine the logic.

A game supports 3D Surround out of the box, looks great to me and plays very well under those demanding circumstances. A $60 game that actually utilities my $3k of monitors and video cards and that I like to play. Only other game that I had this much fun with and utilized my 3D Surround setup this well was Batman AA which is a 5 star game to me.

The only reason I really don't think that Crysis 2 is a 5 star shooter at least on the PC is because of the consolization which doesn't affect me as much as others because I run it on PC hardware that delivers a pretty unique experience.

Logical.

Of all the criticisms of this game this is the one I don't get. The game mechanics of Crysis 1 & 2 are essentially the same; the nanosuit does function differently altering the mechanics slightly but not substantially.

If this game could be blind taste tested, anyone that played Crysis 1 would instantly know it was a Crytek game. These game mechanics really go back to the original Far Cry.

"It's right across the flood barrier...c'mon man!" "Remove that piece of wall that has integrated with your nanosuit...c'mon!" "Oh by the way...it's a checkpoint so enjoy the view, man! "
