Official Crysis 2 Thread

While in other FPS it is camp, kill, cover, camp, kill, cover... oh it's the end of the game. But i played the singleplayer for 3 hours only  (this describes CoD, MW2 and BF BC2 singleplayer if someone has problem understanding it).

If you want something more complex, you don't play FPS style games, you know. How about wait few weeks for Portal 2 ? You will have to use your brain in that game if FPS doesn't fit your style.

And by the way, complaining about game style of Crysis 2 is not a bit stupid ? I mean, it's not like Crysis 1 was any different. Crysis 1 was too cloak, move, uncloak, kill, cloak, cover, recharge, cloak, move,...

Anyone surprised by Crysis 2 gameplay style should have their brain checked.

PS: You are not forced to use cloak. You can play Rambo style too, with Power armor and covering :D.

Rambo works well anytime you can get your hands on a mounted machine gun just rip it out and use it with armor mode to mow everyone down. Works really well unless theres a couple other heavy guns at a distance.

You forgot 3D Surround. And sure these are the basic game mechanics and guess what, people who buy games like this type of thing, I do overall. Crysis 1 was essentially the same thing except the cloak was pretty useless. And sometimes you can switch it up use armor!:D

If you ever come up with a DX 9 game that's only half as good I'll gladly give you $60.;)

Cloak was badass in Crysis 1 as long as a helicopter didn't spot you. Easy, Delta, whatever.

Does Crysis 2 have that 'oh shit' moment when you're cloaked and a human enemy comes close enough to see you? Seeing random soldiers stumble back in shock was precious.

I feel like it's pretty self-explanatory.

If you say so, I explained succinctly that I was willing to give the game a bit higher rating than I would normally because of the EXTREME AND OBVIOUS negative bias that some PC gamers have against this game. Judging the game fairly is practically impossible as the PC elite crowd are upset over the consolization when the average PC gamer is simply looking for an entertaining game to play. The average PC gamer doesn't care about hi-res textures and polygon counts as long as the game entertains them.

But what rating are you giving it? Four stars or five?

5. It's a great basic and fun shooter, not that different from the last which I also thought also was a 5 star game though it pushed technical limits unlike the latest offering. Is it overly positive, a bit, but I clearly and logically explain why I was willing to error on the upside.

Clearly more rational and logical than "Fuck Crytek". If you're looking for people that are being irrational about this game I suggest you look to that crowd. Won't find it with me.;)

Yeah, but the cloak drained so fast, that's I tended no to use it. Speed was more useful in Crysis 1 as you get out of trouble in most places when needed. But the cloak my be TOO powerful in 2.

This game reminds me a lot of FEAR2. From the graphics right down to the gameplay.

Left me wanting a little more, but an enjoyable experience all the way.

not sure if this is a bug, but in SP when i reach low health my screen ghosts an image until my health regenerates some. usually i'm staring down the iron-sight shooting when this happens, so even though i lower my weapon a ghost image of my iron sights remains on the screen until my health regenerates. anyone else experience this?

also MP is a disaster right now. i've worked around the "login data incorrect" glitch, but now i can't join any servers. i can bring up the server list but every time i attempt to join a server it's either full or "Host to server lost". MP is unplayable for me at the moment.

I get this all the time. Are you using any customer autoexec.cfg files? One of the settings in there seems to be what is doing it as I don't recall it happening when I run the game without making any changes to it.

thanks for the help i think i figured it out. disabling radial blur was causing this, so now i leave it enabled (removed the command completely from my config file).

FEAR 2 is complete crap compare to first game...

The demo is surprisingly good, but the actual game is garbage...
It's one of the most disappointed game due to console port..

If you enjoy it, good luck with it....

I just finished the game, and I am highly, utterly disappointed.

The game unfortunately shows the brilliance of Crysis and Crysis Warhead, which outdid its predecessor. Crysis 2 was nothing but a corridor shooter. Open world my a**. I've never run into more invisible walls and had more wall clipping in any modern game than I did Crysis 2. I got stuck many times in the game (in crevices/cracks) that I couldn't get out of.

I played on maximum level in order to gauge how good they made the AI in the game; I do that for pretty much any game. Crysis 2 fails in a very amateur way, for instance, that is completely ridiculous: the fact that when you are cloaked, alerted enemies make a beeline STRAIGHT for you even though they should have no idea you are even there. It seems that Crytek missed the entire QA process when releasing this game.

The story itself was horrible. It had almost nothing to do with the original, and the ending was anti-climatic (read, BORING).

I'm not bashing or have anything against Crysis 2. I went in with a clear mind that the game was probably disassociated from the first in order to help along the console n00bs. But I never imagined it to be this bad. It's pretty much about as bad as comparing Deus Ex: Invisible War to the original Deus Ex.

Farcry was a great game. Crysis 1 was great also. Crysis Warhead was even better. Now this? This is complete utter failure. Sorry, there's just no other way I can put it.

All of this is my opinion, and I'm nothing but a gamer. I try to see the good in any game, and there's none out of this.

Fair review and opinion of the game at least. Not everyone is going to like it, especially on the PC side and not everyone is going to hate it.

nice pics but that FOV is too wide and distorts the view. and why does the gun appear to be so large?

yep i've lowered the FOV since taking those shots. i've only had my 27" screen for a couple of weeks and i guess i'm still adjusting to it :D. i didn't particularly notice the distorted view at first. the weapon models are large, similar to a lot of recent FPS'.

I swear to god i've seen at least ten enemies blow themselves up with grenades.:p

In World War Two this happened continuously - not that that matters, because this is a game, but it did happen. Did you see Band of Brothers - there's a great scene in which Buck Compton drops a live grenade, and Joe Toy sits on it.

I doubt in war you encounter 30 enemies and 10 ten of them blow themselves up with mis-thrown nades. Actually, it was the only entertainment I got from the game. I just uninstalled it.. Warhead was soooo much better....much more fun than this steaming pile.

They spend all that time developing Psycho and Nomad as interesting characters and then they abandon them like they never existed.

I thought Kyle was being obtuse...he was right on the money.

There are previous games to Crysis 2 called, Crysis and Crysis Warhead. We can compare the to PC exclusive games to the multiplatform game and point of the obvious differences between the two. A person doesn't have to be an "elitist" to know Crysis 2 has been consolized. What people fail to understand is that Crysis was the only game that was pushing PC FPS gaming forward. That's over now. This will have a ripple effect across future PC games and hardware purchases. All of PCs major FPS titles have been multiplatformed and consolized because of the "casual gamer." The average PC gamer can enjoy their casual Crysis 2 game all they want, it wouldn't be possible if the elite crowd didn't support the game first.

This about sums up the problem with multiplatforming these days. Sure, it offers everyone as consumers more options for systems, but because consoles are friggin dinosaurs at this point technology wise, they hold back innovation unfortunately. Not saying there is no innovation these days. On the contrary, lots of decent titles came out in the past year or so, but they could have been much better I think had consoles been up to date. Seems like graphics don't see a major overhaul until a next gen console comes out and things become standardized and the norm all over again, and the cycle continues.

One thing I disagree with though is crysis being the only game that pushed gaming forward and no longer seeing industry feats. Like I said, it's a cycle. I'm guessing in the next 2-3 years when next gen consoles hopefully come out we will receive a nice jump in gaming innovation and graphics.

What you fail to understand that Crytek must generate profit, and they can't do that if they continue to generate technological demos. Crytek wants to sell their engine to other companies, and they can't do that if they got an elitist engine which gets 30FPS max on current highend computers.

The reason why the engine is not as good looking and open as CryEngine2 are not consoles, but engine sales. Go out and look at console Crysis 2 pictures. They are orders of magnitude worse than PC Crysis 2 pictures.

Crysis 2 runs maxed out on my PC at 50FPS+. Crysis 1 and Warhead is still sub-40FPS on maximum on same PC. This is the reason for simplification, not consoles. Engine performance.

Seems like Crytek is bad when they do anything. If they release a low FPS technological demo like Crysis 1 and Warhead, it's their fault that they didn't optimize the game, that even the highend PC's can't go higher than 25FPS. If they release a game with an engine with optimized performance, which looks very close to the original technological demo engine, having much better performance, then the problem is that it isn't a technological demo, and that it is not an elitist stuff.

@ajm786: i had zero enemies coming right at you when i was cloaked. They headed for you in 3 instances - you were seen uncloaked at same spot and they went to check that spot out; they were close to you and yes, in that case they see you, same as in other Crysis games; you were standing in their standard path.

Opinion.

this phenomenon is present in nearly all user-generated reviews. Overly emotional one way or the other. We just have to hope a sufficiently large percentage of unemotional reviewers give it products honest ratings.

Yeah, you should see what the Dark Knight fanboys (actually I should say Christopher Nolan faboys) did @ imdb. They rated Avatar (that was above TDK at one point) with 1 (while rating TDK a 10), just so it stayed in the top 10 of the Top 250 list of movies. The Godfather and all the other movies in the top 10 also received a huge number of 1s at about the same time...

That's why the rating in imdb, must be taken with a large bucket of salt.
People talk about how review sites (especially game ones) can be very biased. But individual users can be as biased or even more biased, since they're not doing it for money or recognition, but rather a skewed sense of loyalty to some company, person or game, that doesn't even care about them and just wants their money...People are...well...weird

Actually this is just wrong, it's in Cryteks best interest to build an engine that not only suits today's gaming needs but also future needs, especially considering the length of time it takes to develop a game.

This is exactly what Crysis was about, they admitted that a lot of the graphics options in Crysis were reserved for future generations of hardware that would have the power to run them smoothly, the people whining about the performance of Crysis when maxed are the few elitist gamers who had bruised e-peens because their top of the range rig couldn't max the game on launch, or even years after.

The reason it's worse is because of lowest common denominator development, the game was built for several platforms at once, and the better platforms inherit all the constraints on the older/slower platforms, had the game been tailored for the PC we might have seen some improvement over Crysis 1, certainly at least not a step backwards.

There is no reason to believe that Crysis was unoptimised, this is a completely and utterly unsupported claim and has been since day 1. The game/engine was way ahead of its time and required more power than available at launch day, this has nothing to do with optimisation or the efficiency of the code, the engine scales backwards very well.

I blame the internet. Gives crazy fanboys a voice.

how can I tell what version is installed?...I don't see a version number in the game menu anywhere...I heard there was a multiplayer patch released a few days back but I never got an option to download it?...during installation I unchecked the 'EA Download Manager' portion so I don't know if that is preventing me from auto-downloading new patches

There has only been one patch released and you can tell if its installed or not by the opening. If it says "Press Start to Continue" its not patched. The game doesn't autopatch though.

mine says 'Press Enter to Begin' right before that auto log-in multiplayer screen...so I have to manually patch the game?

No, that means that the game is already patched. When you start the game, it searches for updates and will install the patches automatically, with very little interaction.
Although that wasn't my case, I've read people that claimed the game didn't automatically update. In those cases, yes you should download the patch and install it yourself, but clearly you already have the game patched.

Opps yeah Silus is right. I read polony's post wrong, thought he said it was "press start". In my defense I was barely awake.

While I agree that it helps reduce development time, if they want to license there engine to other companies they need an engine that runs well on all current hardware and even runs well on consoles as many companies looking to license an engine do multi-platform development. From their engine demos and they way they went with cryengine 3, I think crytek is trying really hard to become like epic in terms of how many games use their engine.

Yet you said that agreed with jebo that unemotional rating is the right thing to do. Despite this, you're choosing to rate the game higher than you feel the game deserves because of your emotional response to 1-star ratings.

If you can't see the hypocrisy in this, I don't know what to say.

Be fair. The only way to combat obvious bias is to apply your own obvious bias. We need to keep that pendulum swinging!! !!

So... let us average this out to say... 5/10

I gave a very detailed response as to why I could give it a 5 star rating, it supports my high-end PC hardware well and I really like it. Much of the criticism of this game revolves around this game not pushing the technical envelop. Well it's pushing mine just fine and I have as exotic a gaming rig as there is even around here.

And if I rate the game fairly and there are others rating it unfairly explain how that in total is fair? It's not an emotional, irrational or hypocritical response when it's beyond obvious that this game doesn't deserve 1 star, or in some cases people saying that it deserves less than one star. And then look at the console ratings. Why are they SO much higher?

Again if I thought the game were receiving fair reviews overall I would be inclined to give it a 4 but giving it a 5 isn't completely outside a rational decision either for the reasons I've stated multiple times and you choose to ignore, which you're pretty good at.;)

Well most console players never had any preconceived notions about what a sequel to Crysis should be. They are used to rail shooters and the type of poor multiplayer experience that Crysis 2 offers. These reasons are likely the cause of "higher" ratings on console versions of the game.

You're joking right? All 3 games have their fair share of corridor sections. And most of the levels are intended to be played out in a linear fashion, just with wider open spaces. Crysis 2 is indeed a little more, shall we say, confined, but makes up for this with vertical space. Keeping the action more confined can make for a more focused and intense experience. Some of the levels are still massively sprawling; what a lot of people aren't realising is that they are streamed on the consoles, whereas everything is loaded in at once on the PC, like the previous games. Having buildings everywhere is a neat way of limiting the draw distance.

I haven't encountered any invisible walls in this game, just visible ones, and they make sense in the context of a ruined city. I can't believe you're claiming it has the worst invisible walls when you have games like Calladoody that doesn't even let you jump over a waist-high fence.

I got stuck many times in the game (in crevices/cracks) that I couldn't get out of.

I'm halfway through the game, have replayed most of the levels more than once and it hasn't happened once to me.

I think you may be exaggerating. I've seen enemies lose track of me many a time when I cloak.

The story itself was horrible. It had almost nothing to do with the original, and the ending was anti-climatic (read, BORING).

I actually think it expanded well on the rather flimsy plot of the original, which struck me as a rather contrived vehicle to make a frozen tropical island. To me it seemed like they had that idea first then built up the premise around it, whereas with Crysis 2 it was probably 50% a technical decision to set it in a city, and 50% just to make it different as the jungle/tropical island thing was getting old. It also did well to take the nanosuit which was merely a gameplay mechanic and turned it into an integral part of the plot. It's not the best game plot, but it's told effectively (so far, although I've seen too many spoilers already so I kinda know what happens). There are far worse examples (Modern Warfare 2, Homefront).

It has plenty to do with the original game, the change in setting was necessary I think since the majority of the people who will play it never played the first one. I don't think Nomad or Psycho were well enough developed characters to bring back. Perhaps they'll make an expansion that fills in the 3 year gap between the games. I'd like to see what went down when they got back to the island.

I think Crysis 2 is the best game they've made, and one of the best games I've ever played. This really seems to be a love or hate game, I've not seen much indifference about it, people either love it or want to burn Cevat Yerli's house down.

Just got it from the mail a few hours ago, wasdie launcher makes a huuuuge difference, can't believe how clean it looks, no motion blur no bloom no post MSAA, now if only regular AA was compatible with the game :D

I play on post-human difficulty and it's challenging enough without being cheap, 2 things annoy me tho, that you have to go through a mini tutorial after you unlock a suit mode while you should be able to switch modes from the very start and second, the fake lean function that works only in SP and only in very specific spots, visor and tactical options don't annoy me, but you should be able to tag units by pressing mouse1 not F, why did they change it ffs.

More impressions later
