True, although the Wii U seemed to lack even a decent showing of first-party titles. The only two games I ever really wanted to play on Wii U were Pikmin 3 and Super Mario 3D World. They fucked up Star Fox, and there was never any Metroid Prime successor.

You have summed up nicely where my most valid complaints would be. The Wii-U could have had the sweetest tech in the world and it wouldn't have mattered because of this right here.

This cannot happen again.

I understand it takes time to develop quality titles but they must absolutely do better than the likes of this or it's over for them and no one wants that to happen. I certainly don't. Ramp up the first and second party action and all will be well.

If you want a console with the power of the PS4 Pro, then buy a PS4 Pro. LOL.

The main reason to get a Nintendo system is Nintendo games, and those games typically have stylized cartoony or cel shaded graphics, no need for super power.

It's already been confirmed by DF that games like Mario Kart 8 run at the full 60fps solid and the graphics look adequate for a game like that.

Of course, I too love super power and that's why I have a Titan XP in my gaming PC. If you're looking for high-end graphics, there are many options already. No need for another.

Finally, if you consider the portable/mobile aspects of this system, then IT IS actually high performance. Compared to other traditional handhelds it's a league above.

I was looking at Dragon Quest Heroes 1 and 2 release but unsure if they are going to make an English version.

They probably will. Seems like SE is getting more interested in bringing Dragon Quest stuff to the west and DQH didn't set the world on fire sales wise, but it did well enough to convince SE to bring the sequel over. As long as those versions don't have any content differences it's just a matter of applying the already finished localizations from both games to this one. Nintendo of America has also been listing it as a launch window title since the event.

Oh man I got interested watching the video, but then saw the price.
WTF? That thing costs $400 here in Sweden. Why get a portable gaming console when I can get a high end tablet for that price?
This seems like a toy for upper middle class children and Japanese people.

Supposedly the tablet screen is very good. Consoles have always been priced as a luxury item, the high end tablet is nothing more then a computer without Nintendo games the versatility of the product is also something you can not get from a "simple" tablet No one likes the price it seems that if you look at what it is then it is almost the same story as the Wii but that did sell well and this one might not.
Titanfall 2 on the Switch would be a horrible idea anyway. The game already sold like crap on every other system, no need to piss away even more money on a system where a game like that has absolutely no market to speak of.

Titanfall 2 would be very good on a console where there are next to no first person shooters. If they can manage to find people to make a half decent Switch version then it might get some traction since the demographic of typical gamers tend to not be on Nintendo consoles ....

Nintendo has as much chance of capturing that market as they do the casual market these days. The big shooter crowd is either on the PC or PS4 these days with the remaining on the XB1. Nintendo is better off putting their efforts into trying to capture a different part of that market with games like Splatoon. People that like MP shooters but are sick of a lot of the modern military stuff or people who just want something fun and silly. It's a great way to get the younger generation into the genre as well. But something like Titanfall 2? It would never sell on the Switch. Activision tried making some headway into that market on Nintendo with a pretty good version of Black Ops 2, it went nowhere because that market simply isn't interested in Nintendo consoles.

Because when you buy a game the Wii U will be the last version you would buy if you owned another console or a PC.
Look at something as Goldeneye pretty popular title way back when. I would think a "mech" game would be quite popular then a straight Battlefield title on Nintendo platform.

In a lighthearted interview with YouTube channel Drunk Tech Review, the Respawn designer said that although he is personally excited about the console, he knows it won’t be getting third-party support due to being “so underpowered”.

When asked by the show host if we’ll ever see Titanfall on the Switch, he replied, “Fuck no! No, you’re not going to be able to fit Titanfall 2 on the Nintendo Switch.”

These people are busy with making money not making games that tells you all about current crop of game developers.

What I got out of the video wasn't that TitanFall 2 is a bad or good game to be launched on the Nintendo Switch. The developer for TitanFall 2 was saying that nothing with graphics comparable to TitanFall 2 can be on the Nintendo Switch due to it being completely under powered compared to the other consoles and the PC. I suppose that someone could get inventive and remove most of the eye candy from a game and launch it on the Switch. I wouldn't hold my breath though as Nintendo 3rd party support isn't their strong suit.

I hope that most people buying this aren't expecting for games to look anywhere as nice as the other consoles or a low powered PC. That's cool as it is obvious that this machine isn't designed to cater to that crowd. One of the main points that they made in the video was that when you marry a tablet and a console, you end up with the lesser of each technical data point.

Power delivery system:
6 hour battery vs plugged in the wall. 6 hour battery is the weakest link. Set your expectations for this as you're bound to hold the thing in your hand and game at some point.

720p in handheld mode vs 900p in dock mode. Think of it as a 720p console.

(I didn't research the battery life or resolution; I just used the numbers as examples.)

Etc, etc.

Not sure if I completely explained my thoughts on the console as I'm dead tired. But I hope that I'm not coming off in a negative way. I'm just trying to temper expectations. This thing seems like a slightly better Wii U in dock mode and nothing more than a tablet that is licensed to run Nintendo games in handheld mode. How many of us like to game on a tablet at home, in public, etc? When the first Gameboy came out I was over 18. I wouldn't have been caught in public staring at it for fear of embarrassment. Now I may have fiddled around with it at home and shared the experience with a family member or buddy. That makes sense.

I just don't see a person buying their 9 year old son / daughter a $300 tablet before accessories wallet trauma and allowing them to take it to school, to the beach, football practice, etc. Maybe to a sleepover at a friend's house makes sense. Everywhere else seems like a really bad idea. Breakage and theft are two good reasons it would never leave the home.

Like I said I'm not being negative; just not seeing the "it" factor with this console / tablet.

I don't remember where I heard it, but I remember watching a video where someone pointed out they never bought nintendo for specs, they bought it for the fun games.

This, ffs. If I need specs and eyecandy, I can just sit down at my fucking sig rig all goddamn day...

For different and exclusive games I can't experience on PC -- which has pretty much every PS4/XBone multiplat worth playing for some years now -- my Wii U has fit the bill and thensome.

Can't wait for Switch, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, ARMS, Xenoblade 2, Ultimate SF2, DQ Heroes 1&2, Travis Touchdown Returns, and Mario Odyssey amongst others

The Binding of Isaac joins the lineup.

There will be a physical version of Afterbirth+ available at retail, while the game will also be sold digitally via the Nintendo eShop. The $40 package comes with Rebirth, Afterbirth, and Afterbirth+

Nicalis founder Tyrone Rodriguez teased that the "first few thousand" copies may include "something special," though he did not share any further details.

I want to see that new Mario game personally. That looks like the number one title that they have coming. Of course Zelda also.

Are Switch games going to be region locked like say, the Nintendo DS's games? If not, It'll be great to import Japanese games like I do with my PS4 and PS Vita. Definitely opens up a lot more opportunities if you can understand Japanese.

I don't remember where I heard it, but I remember watching a video where someone pointed out they never bought nintendo for specs, they bought it for the fun games.

Yet the other systems are more than capable of delivering both. Why is there a constant need to have an asterisk next to Nintendo games because they're "fun" no matter how last-gen they might be? Why are we stuck buying yet another Nintendo machine with massive flaws (+ a high price) just for those half-dozen franchises? I'm sick of having to buy their hardware and the excuse that their games are "fun" as though the other systems aren't. If the specs honestly don't matter, let's just stick to the WiiU and 3DS.

Seems to work pretty much like the PS4. Physical games are region free and the digital store you see is tied to the region of your account but you can make multiple accounts on the system.

every time I see the switch name I though of the will smith sng, apparently someone else did too! it fit!!

it old, don't think I missed it in here...

I would say a pretty significant part of the reason that 3rd party support is bad has to do with the console being far from parity with other consoles and PC performance-wise. Why waste a bunch of extra development time cutting down your game to run on a Nintendo console when it probably won't sell that well anyway as an inferior version?

I totally get where these 3rd party devs are coming from.

I get that people enjoy their Nintendo games but how many times can Nintendo get away with this? "Give us $250-300 for new hardware that doesn't come close to the power of our competitors' machines and we'll consider giving you a single sequel to each of your favorite franchises. Come back in a few years and we'll do it again. Oh, and we almost forgot to mention that you'll have to rebuy any of the classic titles you already bought on our older consoles."

How to stop this? Stop buying Nintendo's crappy consoles. And don't fool yourselves, the Switch is crappy. Being able to play a Zelda game for three hours before hunting for an AC outlet does not a portable make, and the Nvidia Tegra chipset (the Switch is Shield with lower resolution and Nintendo games) does not a home console make. Relative to its competition, the Switch is less powerful than the WiiU and they want you to spend another $300 on it.

I truly want Nintendo to compete but I think they've forgotten how to do it in the non-portable space, and given the pathetic battery life of the Switch they've forgotten how to make a portable, too.

Switch is going to be great, I Preordered one. I'm big on VC stuff, and arcady Nintendo games. Definately great complement to a PC.

Nintendo unfucking themselves in regards to the VC library (and its online service) would be a tremendous boost. We all know third party titans like EA, Ubisoft, etc. are going to be one and done with the Switch. What Nintendo needs to do is embrace more niche genres while shoring up the mainstream ones with their in house games.

If the Switch became the next Vita (in terms of library) but with top tier Nintendo first party titles I would be happy.

It is sad in a way those 3rd party people complain about Nintendo 1st party titles stealing the limelight and their "port" (for whatever reason) never sells well enough for them to get a running start.
The 3rd party tend to neglect Nintendo users with unplayable ports or games that are several months after the other platforms and they wonder why things are not going well.

Touchscreen hype! Make sure you are sitting down. Make sure there is a glass of water nearby and a towel to dab sweat away. You have been warned...

That video pretty much echoes my feelings perfectly. That first trailer captivated people and everything since has lost more and more of them.

Touch screen was known, but I think it's most interesting that the tablet works without the controllers attached.

I imagine it has to, because you can use it in "tabletop mode" where the controller is separate but the tablet is propped up on a table.

Not to sure where Colin has been all of these years :). There hardly to many Nintendo consoles that had enough 3rd party support. I found his rant about Nintendo fooled him again disingenuous.
Achievements because steam has them ;) give me a break please.

nintendo is a company about innovation and gaming / not a competition about who's processor is bigger - you can cry foul all you want but nintendo is the archetype of modern gaming (this is a statement of fact, not opinion) - basically what you enjoy now from analog sticks to the d-pad to shoulder buttons to portable gaming to being able to save games to rumble to motion controls ... the list goes on and on and nintendo did it first, and other companies (sega microsoft sony) followed suit and copied accordingly (fact, not opinion)

yes, call of duty 45 is amazing and has every graphical bell and whistle you could possibly want... but it's the same game as the 44 iterations that came before it...

here is an absolute truth that cannot be ignored, the games you play on the xbox one are the same games you played on the xbox 360 are the same games you played on the xbox ... this goes for the ps4 3 2 and original playstation - nothing, literally nothing has changed except the fidelity of the graphics and sound... games get prettier, levels get bigger... it's more of the same / and if you need proof then find yourself an original playstation controller... got it? great... now find yourself a ps4 pro controller... they've added analog sticks, rumble, touch pads... hmmm, all things nintendo did first... but in 20 years the major change from ps1 games to ps4 games is they are prettier and bigger... and that's fine if that's all you want... but...

nitpick the switch all you want but why make claims that aren't even true - you don't have to plug the switch into an AC outlet to keep playing, usb-c batt packs can be had for $20, that'll get you 10,000mah of extra playtime (roughly 5 hours) - and lambasting the chipset is moot, resolution is not equal to great games... shit i feel like the old lady in the commercial cause that's not how any of this works...

mario kart 8 is amazing looking game, not a single critic review of the game said anything about how bad it looked, many praised it for being one of the better looking console games of this generation (facts) - and the switch version looks better... and it's mobile? are you serious...?

i get it, not everyone is a nintendo fan... but they are a profitable company that has been innovating in the console and portable space since the mid 80s, and it would appear they have another hit on their hands, only time will tell - i for one am ecstatic to play zelda here in about a month...

So what? Should people keep shoveling money into Nintendo's furnace because they used to be good? They won't even learn from their own lessons, the most significant example being their constantly crappy attempts at online services.

I'm sorry, are you defending Nintendo on the basis of their gaming innovation? The company that can barely manage one new IP per console? You might want to put that argument back where you found it, at least until Nintendo announces something that's not a sequel or a glorified tech demo.

Hooray! I can buy extra stuff to carry around to make up for the Switch's pitiful battery life. It's apparent that you're not thinking about what you're saying, let alone what I might be saying, which is that the Switch is shitty as a portable (3 hours of gameplay is insufficient) and it's shitty as a home console (because it's not; it's a lousy portable that can be hooked up to a TV).

And we're back to touting a sequel? A #8? And you've got the stones to take shots at game sequels on other consoles?

I don't give two shits whether Nintendo is profitable or not. EA makes money hand over fist, releases a lot more games on more platforms than Nintendo does, and has easily innovated as much as Nintendo has since it was founded. I'm sure you're writing an impassioned defense of that company right now...

Buy the PS4, play the games, sell it when you're done. I really don't see an issue here. Ever since the PS4 Pro debuted, you could snag an original PS4 for damn near $200, especially with deals in November and early December. Price is not a barrier to entry with this thing.
