Assuming they let you preload for the Wii U version i'll just be getting that. If they don't allow preload i'll just wait for my Amazon copy to come in the mail.

I'm not sure I would waste my time camping out for a switch just to play Zelda considering it's on the Wii U anyways. The game ultimately was coded for the Wii U and looks good enough on it that trying to get a switch day 1 isn't worth it.

I'm also calling it right now that the Wii U version gameplay wise will be better because you'll have the Gamepad screen to use as a map / inventory.

For those who may not realize, the Nintendo Switch is not an abandonment of the traditional console. It is a direct and logical progression of the Wii U gamepad.

They have addressed the gamepad wear and tear by making the sticks/buttons modular and in the process integrated the Wii Remote and Nunchuck functionality into them.

Though it is more powerful than the Wii U, Switch is a placeholder. Nintendo gets to sit back and watch Microsoft and Sony's hardware war while they can invest time and money into what matters.

The Switch console and dock is not the base system; you have not been introduced to that yet.

Good point.

Still not happy about the battery situation. (Non-replaceable battery by enduser)
However im a compulsive charger so i'll probably be tethered more often than not.

My big question about the battery is: Will battery banks work? You can find decent battery banks for reasonably cheap these days and if those work for the Switch then that will help deal with battery life.

At least online play isn't set to be overly expensive. They're saying roughly $25 per year, which I'm fine with.

While cheap, if they're charging for it at all they better be improving it a ton. As of now, the Nintendo network is painfully slow.

The Switch gamepad charges via USB-C, so any power bank with support for that will charge it just like it's plugged into a wall charger.

I'll believe it when I see it. They sure aren't investing much time and money into games lately. I don't even get to download the new switch DLC for mario kart for my wii u version.

I too suffer from compulsive charging to the point where if something can be charging while I'm using it, and it isn't, my mental state suffers a little bit. :D

This is one criticism that I agree with 100%. I'm fine with how their current (yet primitive) shop and miiverse is functionally, (I know people hate it, but I just want to play my games, and it gets that done in a direct way) but not how slow it is. It's obnoxious how long things take to transfer over a 200Mb connection on the WiiU and 3DS. Makes me want to vomit. However, this new paid service is supposedly something new from the ground up, so I'm hopeful that they've addressed these things.

I'm hoping for an online system similar to Xbox Live. While the PSN is perfectly fine, I find the social experience (especially the various chat/party options) from MS to be cleaner and easier to use. Ironically enough, it was better on the Xbox 360 than the One even if the platform is the same.

If you haven't noticed, development traditionally starts just before or during the release of a new system and then it is usually refactored or delayed. This kicking of the can has become so pronounced, it is normal to end up releasing the game for the next platform as well (Zelda).

Nintendo has now shifted development early on, at the cost of new Wii U content, to their next platform in an effort to counter their notoriously delayed auditing/release cycle. I still have a hard time believing Nintendo has learned from their past, but at least scheduling changes are a good sign. Search "Miyamoto Syndrome" if you want to read about my thoughts on Nintendo's stubborn development process.

Though Nintendo is interested in VR, the Switch is 720p and 297 grams in weight. They will wait for everything to be mature, at the right price point. Then you will see the next traditional console with a fancy gamepad, which you will likely already own, additional input options and a real VR headset option.

I really wish Nintendo had independent R&D teams competing against each other like in the old days. They desperately need full creative freedom without interference from a certain Creative Fellow.

Pre-orders seem to be popping up on Best Buy's site throughout the day. It's come and gone a couple times, but I managed to sneak one in about 30 minutes ago.
Nowinstock.net is showing more available right now.

If you're military they are available on aafes. I wasn't bothering to rat race for pre-orders, but saw them there and figured I'd pick one up.

Does anyone know if a new Metroid game is in the works? The last game I thoroughly enjoyed was Metroid Fusion on GBA (started playing it again on my N3DSXL!).

Pretty good overview video (sorry if it's ofn). Nintendo's marketing is about 10x better than what it was trying to explain the Wii U.

I did the Best Buy thing and they sent me a confirmation. Hopefully I'm not one of the people that gets a delay notice. My plan is not to buy any accessories and to use one of my Nintendo fanboy friends as a guinea pig for things like cases, chargers, controllers, accessories, etc.
Since Mario Kart and Street Fighter aren't apparently launch titles, I can wait.

Nintendo had little to no marketing on the Wii U, and what little they did have they made it seem like an add-on to the Wii. I'm confident that this was a large reason why the system didn't sell well out the door / first year. The lack of a killer app obviously was a large factor as well. The Switch will at the very least not have either of these blunders.

I want one pretty badly, but I'm just going to hold off until I can walk into a store and bring one home. I typically order everything online, but I still like to walk out of a store with a new console on occasion. :D

I ordered one from AAFES and one from the NEX. I'll likely have an extra one to sell, and if I can't get extra for it i'll just return it.

Interesting. While that coincides with the Digital Foundry article in some ways it's also different in others. Max speed of 2GHz on the CPU and 1GHz on the GPU is faster than what Digital Foundry was reporting. The OS seems fairly light weight too, assuming this is all accurate. One core and only .75 of a gigabyte of memory, not too bad. No values for dots at the edges of the screen is interesting, I think. I'm not overly familiar with touch screens but would that be something done to prevent accidental input from someone holding the tablet by it's edge or accidentally brushing a thumb across the edge when using the joy-cons connected to the system?

Not to sure if that is impressive or not but one thing is for certain look at the amount of Watt
TDP 15 watts,[91] with power consumption less than 10 watts

They have been reducing a good deal of features to stay below this 10 Watt figure.

Still all in all the hardware specs say absolutely nothing about a system. I remember people posting crap on how the PS3 would be faster then the PS4 because of the hardware specs.

About the touch screen, my guess it is enabled or disabled by the developer (when joy cons are attached).

1-2-Switch contains 28 minigames – check out this new footage.

Baby minigame.

Zelda footage.

I really do enjoy the Japanese commercials more. I know they're a little outlandish in that "no one would really be doing this shit at work or in public", but they sure do try really hard to make it seem like that's a possible reality.

You really do notice it being in Japan as well, everything is given extra attention.

I love Japanese voice overs in games, the commercials, and the music is just so good! :)

Same here. When/where possible, I always prefer to change a games subtitles (or voice if that's an option) to Japanese. I'll go as far as importing a game as well if I know that there is top talent at work (like in FFXV, although that one had the option to change languages for the NA version).

Anyone know when Arms is supposed to hit? All of the pre-order retailers are just listing a 12/31 placeholder. I'm assuming it isn't a launch title, but is it coming any time soon?

Thanks to someone getting a Switch early we now know that digital purchases are FINALLY tied to the account and not to the system. Why they didn't announce this during the event or at ANY point baffles me. People have been bitching about this since the DSi and Wii, announcing that the stupid restriction is gone would have gotten them a ton of praise during that horrible event.
