Minecraft

I did notice something about the statue though; it would probably make sense to be on a pedestal :)

Thanks to arr4ws for getting me all of the materials I needed. Here is the statue completed with some landscaping added on the level above by arr4ws.

Going to take a few layers of dirt off from where the statue is?

I finished the lighting for the top level last night. It looks weird from the lawn, but looking down from the memorial it looks much better.

Hopefully there was enough light to stop mobs from spawning...

whats so great about this game? looks like sims done in a gameboy

Play it, and you'll find out what's so great :)

It's a surprisingly addicting game. It really doesn't look that exciting to play, but it is. I had the same thoughts, and now I'm hooked.

Some love it, some hate it. Minecraft has no plot, no quests, no missions, no characters - so it's up to you to find things to do. For some, that's building things. For some, it's mining and hoarding rare treasures. For some, it's exploring caves and fending off monsters. For some, it's designing systems using water or redstone circuits.

Minecraft has enough complexity that as long as you're self-motivated you can find something interesting to do in the game. And for $15 that's pretty good.

At this point I will now work on finishing the railroad! :)

I lost 10 diamonds, all my tools and some stacks of glass yesterday in lava :(, if anyone wants to trade me their diamonds for my cobble (huge quantities), or my green moss stone please tell me :p.

Wow guys., Absolutely awesome. I'm sorry I could not help, stuff has been very crazy around here (next time I'm on, ask me about Chicago and the PANTS).

Well done though, it is a fantastic homage.

I haven't played MC in quite a while now - since before it went Beta actually.

How is the current version looking now? Are mine-carts finally working correctly in MP? Last time I was on, there was still a huge delay in the mine-cart movement that made them impossible to use... how much of those type bugs are fixed now? Portals/Nether in MP? How 'bout red-stone? Is that working in MP yet?

Once all those bugs are fixed in MP, I need to get my friends back into the game.

A lot of those bugs are fixed. Mine-carts are functional, though I think if the server has a bit of lag they go screwy... Same goes for Redstone, from what I can tell. Right now having the Nether work in SMP requires running two different servers, one for the normal world, and one for the Nether. connecting between them requires mods.

That's not to say there aren't new bugs to replace those ;)

I have minecart speed reduced to 80% this makes for a very smooth ride and less chance of lag if there would be any.

Me n ellz have done a lot of redstone circuits since beta, all working very well we think.

No nether yet on ours atleast.

Were you able to make daytime longer g1? That would make me a really happy camper.

heh... has anyone seen this yet? Apparently it's a minecraft clone being developed for xbox live arcade. I'm not sure if Notch/Mojang only planned on using the current skins, textures and effects as placeholders, but I really hope that the polish it up to something like this. The water, lighting, shaders and textures look great in this video. I hate having to patch the .jar file everytime a new update is released to get high resolution textures working in-game.

This was also pretty rad IMO. A developer decided to try and create a similar engine to minecraft, but he added in physics. This could add a pretty cool dynamic into playing the game. Not only do you have to worry about sand and gravel falling on you, but you'd also have to worry about mineshafts and caves collapsing in on you if they weren't supported properly.

That dude's going to get his pants sued off.

I doubt it, he could have used the open source code from Infiniminer which inspired Minecraft and started developing his own project. Infiniminer was developed in XNA which is platform that Xbox Live arcade games run. He didn't use any of Notch's code. But there may legal IP issues.

That's what I am referring to. There are just too many similarities. Likely a copyright issue.

I can't image even attempting to play this with a controller... geez I think that along would make me stop playing minecraft.

How come the people Minecraft copied have not sued him yet?

Too many conceptual, artistic and gameplay differences.
Infiniminer was a very different system.

Also they don't have millions in sales to back them in a lawsuit.

super uncool to totally copy a game to capitalize on its success >: ( but the console tards (fanboys) could probably care less...

Yup, it looks a heck lot like minecraft, but a LOT better. When it comes out I'm definitely getting it.

Because it was open source. The similarities between the 2 are only at the very base level, what notch added in minecraft sets it way apart from infiniminer.

This new one on the other hand is practically just copy/paste.

I'd gladly pay for a new game that is like Minecraft if it had more features and better multiplayer performance/support. I already paid for the original Minecraft and since Mojang can't get stuff implemented and/or fixed at a reasonable pace I would have no problem to pay someone else for the same concept but a better product.

I probably wont buy Fortress Craft unless it has a really awesome working multiplayer survival mode. I do agree though since i bought Minecraft I have been really disappointed with its development. Most of the features I like or take advantage are mods that have been created by other players. It seems like they are spending more going to conferences and accepting rewards than working on the game. I don't now what is the real direction that they are trying to move the game but novelty of building things only lasts so long. The game has a lot of potential and it would be interesting to see what this developer can do.

same here.

minecraft is a great game and it's consumed countless hours of my time, but it's been rather stale since the halloween update IMO. The community mods are great, but it sucks having to wait for new releases everytime mojang releases a minecraft patch. Besides that, compatibility between mods can become a HUGE pain in the ass, especially with each new release.

They really need to come up with some game mode or system to keep the game feeling fresh. Give player a REASON to build or explore. There is absolutly no reward or payoff for playing the game other than the structures you create. At least Garysmod gives you the ability to fling NPC's around like ragdolls or pin them to walls with the cross bow :D
