While we were all going to give Microsoft's new Windows 10 browser a test drive anyway, it's good to hear that it actually has the potential to outperform Chrome.

Microsoft Edge showed significant performance gains over Google Chrome, but what's most impressive is that Microsoft used benchmarks created by Apple and Google: Edge was tested using Google Octane, Apple JetStream, and WebKit Sunspider. That last one is actually a benchmark created by Apple's WebKit development team that's intended for the iOS, Mac, and Windows versions of Safari, Apple's web browser.
 
Great news, now you can get infected faster than ever.

On a serious note Google Chrome has been more infected with different hijacks and popups than IE lately. Possibly because through IE you can pwn the whole computer, no point in messing with the browser itself.
 
I can't stand IE, but I have yet to install Chrome or Firefox in any of the latest builds. Just removed IE and only use Edge. I actually like it a lot. Smaller footprint than Chrome and MUCH faster.
 
Credit where credit is due.

I've never found Chrome to be slow, so browser performance has never really been something I've thought of.

I do like my plugins though, so switching is probably unlikely.
 
While firefox is on version 100000 trying to fix the last 400 update fuckups... :/
 
It's also extremely buggy and roughly 2/3 finished. I like Edge, but it has a long way to go before it can fully replace any other browsers, IE11 included.
We'll see how functional it is and how fast it is once they've fleshed it out a little more.
 
If that's all you want is fast then its perfect. Otherwise it comes up extremely short everywhere else. Needs 3rd party addons or GTFO.
 
I'll go with whichever one is stable after 10-12 standby cycles.

So far, everybody is a loser. At least one of the last updates to FF stopped the entire browser from crashing when anything optimus related came up (never happened to IE and Chrome).

Unless Microsoft offers a build in support for essential features such as ad blocker, the benefits of 3rd party plug in will always outweigh it's cons
 
I'll have to give it a shot. Chrome has been OK but it's a resource hog like crazy and Firefox is, somehow after all this time, a complete buggy mess. I tried switching a month ago and seriously after a day of using it like half my plugins stopped working or would crash constantly, etc. It was just garbage and had a very amateur feel to it.
 
Once Edge passes IE share in 10 years maybe we'll finally be at a point of taking fast client side scripting for granted.

You should stop using shitty addons because the ones I use are perfectly stable. Most addons I use are to help security...I take it your an IE fan boy?
 
It may be faster, but it still doesn't give me the abilities Chrome does. I can't block ads, flash, or javascript from particular sources. I'll stick with Chrome.
 
More like microsoft edge annihilates my multitabbed browsing experience with certainty of form-entry data loss . What also sucks is there is no ABP for edge yet... Hope this shit gets fixed soon
 
this is good. a basic quick browser that has no fluff or vulnerabilities is all most people want. for everyone else we can easily still use firefox or chrome or maybe even vivaldi.

no frills is better for the tech illiterate.
 
It is very, very fast in daily use. Plugins and legacy things have me heading back to 11 much of the time but as it gets refined Edge is going to be a superb tool to use. They add features quickly too, so don't think that Edge is a static done thing. Use it, and then watch as it just grows in features and capabilities.
 
Chrome only exists because of the whole mindlessly dumb browser holy wars that have been going on for like longer than most of us have been alive. It's just the next iteration in a long line of browsers used by people who either are running Linux or make it a point to install 3rd party crapware on their computer because they don't know any better or were worshippers of the almighty saving grace of Google before they figured out Google is just another corporation, but they're now too stubborn to admit they were wrong. Whatever.

On a side note though, I haven't experienced any of these huge performance gains with Edge on my laptop. It's basically identical to IE11 which was identical to 10 and 9 in real world performance regardless of what some dumb set of benchmarks asserts. I mean really, benchmarking web browsers? Is there that big of a population of people that want to benchmark everything and anything? Why? Making up for inferiority complexes or small penises or something? Duuuuumb.

and sorry but I see no empirical evidence that this reboot of internet explorer is any more "secure" than anything else. but by all means, enjoy the most feature stripped browser.

I don't use addons or IE outside of work. Addons don't help security most often they are just a GUI for features already built into browser. Most browsers are secure enough out-of-box until silly users play poweruser. Ultimately destabilizing the browser and slowing it down.
 
I want to slowly get away from google. This might help me get away from Chrome. It sucks that the MS phone division was reduced.

My uncle once told me that using google made him feel creepy.

Most chrome plugins can be ported to Edge with very little changes. Only a matter of time before they get ported over.

I've been Edge on my laptop with W10, it was a little flakey as project spartan until around build 10130, but its awesome now. Its still lacking a few features in the insider build but otherwise has been running great.
 
I am a little skeptical,I have seen so many products that perform quickly or responsively when they are new. Hell that was half the reason for the whole wow this iphone was so fast back in the early days of the smart phone explosion but it couldn't even copy and paste, as time goes on and appropriate features are added to bring something up to the level of competitors it all slows down. Another funny example windows phone is often cited as the fastest phone OS now but its also the least capable. So basically in the phone market the responsiveness of your phone is exactly inversely proportional to what it is capable of.

It also does you no good to load a page X% faster if the ads that bog that page down end up making it X% slower than a competitors browser with adblock. It does you no good to save 2 seconds if you have to spend 30 seconds doing what you want because feature X or Y is missing or a plugin could get that job done for you faster. One reason I was not an early adopter of firefox was because a long time ago they didn't have FTP support where IE had it built in.

So I will wait to see how this pans out when they are feature full. The sad part is MS will probably keep shipping IE 11 for compatibility reasons and fragment their own browser market.

Bullshit...nothing is secure out of the box and even if that's true exploits come fast and furious fairly quickly. I have yet to see my addons slow my browser or destabilize it. Only one causing an issue on every browser I have is flash plugin. Your generic reasons are just to baseless to even try and have a sensible argument with you.

I lived through the 90s and early 2000's. I know IE is supposedly better these days, but I just can't bring myself to use it under any circumstance.

For me it would be Chrome > Firefox > Opera > Safari > anything fuckig else in the world > IE.

I wouldn't fuck IE with yours, as the proverb goes.

The words "Microsoft" and "Internet Explorer", especially when in combination have been forever tarnished in my mind, and I doubt they will ever be able to recover.
 
If this Edge has noscript, flashblock and adblock (disabled on the H, of course) functionality or plugins, I'll consider taking it for a spin, but without that I won't touch it.

It's a moot point either way though, as for me my Windows install is strictly for games. I don't use it for anything else.

Security, stability, correctness and functionality trump speed alone. IE/Edge is smoother but lacking in the other areas so I still use Chrome.

Let's be honest here, Safari on Windows has been a halfhearted effort by Apple from the beginning, and helps make your browser look better when you run a comparison against it.

I like that I can login on Chrome on my desktop/laptop/phone and my browser looks the same, operates the same, and has the same bookmarks, and if I update one, they all update

It has its benefits

They dont' declare RTM anymore, just thresholds. 10240 + whatever patches they have on day 1 will be Threshold 1. And they already have planned a second major update in October, that will be Threshold 2. It's going to be similar to Office 365 in that there will be periodic updates every couple of months as they finish new things.

FWIW. The October update is supposed to add plugin support to Edge.
 
Little bit more features etc. and I can totally see this replacing Firefox. I like how I can customise Firefox but when it comes to performance Firefox sucks no matter what benchmarks say.
