Mass Effect 3 Discussion Thread

I pirated the game, enjoyed the game soo much I decided to buy it. And thats even after the ending. Ill admit it was weird but I have hope that bioware has a master plan for the story. I really believe the indoctrination theory.

this implies that you're going to need a total of 10,000 points in war assets @ 50% readiness by the time you get to the final mission. sorry I don't see how this is possible, or maybe I was just being a total noob my first time around. also please use real sources not pr posts from bw reps, they are meaningless.

8,000 at 50% readiness to get a "best ending" where he lives is very doable.

I've scanned every planet, done every mission and still am below 4k war asses - think I've about 3600... need4k for the best endings, so I guess I'll have to play a match or two.

Well that really isnt possible because I've played one mp match and the only difference it made was a 3% increase in readiness. So yeah your missing a lot of crap if your only at 3600

Theres about 50 different things you need to do at the citadel that probably amount to over 2000 points alone. You will not ever get the best score on your first play through, the way they set it up makes it impossible to do. Still if you had gotten every thing you would be higher than 3600.

Just finished the game.....my opinion:

Gameplay: ME3 > ME2
Story Finality: ME2 > ME3

= (

My first play through, with I think most everything done -- a couple systems at 55% assets recovered but I think most of that was fuel -- was ~6600 points.

There's no way you're below 4K if you've done every mission & found 100% assets for every area. Did you turn in all of the collected assets to the appropriate person as well?

I think you're missing something here...

so that's not the complete story now is it... the fact still stands, you must play mp to get all the sp ending options. what is there to debate? bw pr purposely posts stickies to contradict these facts and incite confusion, just like the character dlc, for unsuspecting players to bicker about all over the internets. you don't find it odd that we have to constantly disprove misinformation spread by bw themselves?

I'm glad I've been playing it. Do I need to get that all up to 100 percent to get it done right or is there a magic cutoff somewhere?

I haven't finished it yet but this really seems to be the overwhelming consensus.

Endings notwithstanding I will say that I personally have been very satisfied with the narrative and character development I've been experiencing.

SilverSliver said he got 6600 on his first playthrough. When I said it's very doable I meant it's fairly easy to achieve. Personally speaking, I got past 4k without actually aiming for readiness level and just simply doing the obvious quests. If I hadn't lost out on a few of the Citadel quests due to advancing the storyline too far too early, I'd probably be over 5K. You say it's fact, but have you actually tested it or do you have a link to where someone physically tested it? If you don't then obviously it's not a fact.

Aim for >4000 readiness for the "good ending". >5000 if you want to be absolutely sure regardless of what you do (or don't do) during part of the finale, but as everyone has said there's minimal differences between the ending and even if you don't get the "best ending" you can watch the one 10-15sec cutscene on youtube.

I was in the 6000s and didn't get all the gofer quests done, thanks to events beyond my control. I played maybe one hour of MP during my SP playthrough. I also never had renegade/paragon options dulled out, to my knowledge, as I was almost exactly 50/50. I imported a mostly renegade ME2 save, but played mostly paragon in ME3 (though I was still a dick to some people).

Good deal. I've been savoring the game basically so I'm well past 5000 on readiness with mostly single player effort.

Most definitely. When I finished the game I had over 7k in assets and missed a couple things.

I'm betting it was because they didn't actually go back and give the folks the items they were looking for.

It's also possible that they did priority missions without turning those quest items in and got to a point where they couldn't finish them. But if you do everything and you take your time there is no reason you can't be in excess of 6,500 or 7,000 in military assets.

Yeah I had ~7300. That was with a ME1/ME2 import, maybe there are less quests if people are dead or prior DLC went unplayed. Did all the quests, didn't turn in a few right before a certain Priority quest. One trick is, if you miss picking up a required item in a mission, they will sell it at the Spectre terminal.

Anyone got some unexplorable star systems? I looked it up and apparently they only open after some priority missions are completed, but I checked after every one and even after finishing the game, and they remained "locked".

Did you have 7k in assets, or effective military readiness? My understanding was that the EMR was what affected the variables of the ending, not total assets.

Sure...I ended the game with around 7,000 in military assets. Did every little gofer quest I could. The saved game I imported had everyone from ME2 alive except Kasumi (the character predated her existence), so I got most of those assets as well. That said - it's the Effective Military Strength (Readiness x Assets) that drives the ending, is it not? So 7,000 in assets with no multiplayer still only gives you 3,500 readiness - not enough for the "best" endings.

There are some systems that have relays on the map (and show the Reapers being in control) that are not really in the game at the moment...so you can see the circle pop up on the map, but can't travel there. Maybe a future DLC? :D

Everything that has a quest-related item is unlocked at some point.

Yeah, it's the Effective Military Strength that counts.

I was all  at the top poster on this page for saying he pirated the game. Then, after I posted, I read that he actually went and bought the game after. Still sort of  but not as  as I thought, so I figured I'd let it be.

Are we getting confused on war assets vs. readiness score? He said he was around 3,600 and needed 4,000 for the best ending. But 4,000 is the readiness score you need, which means you need 8,000 in war assets (providing you only play SP). So I'm guessing he really had ~7200 in war assets.

Could be for future DLC. Both Mass Effect 1 & 2 did have spots on the map that would sometimes generate the tone as if you highlighted something but you never could go there or find anything. So it's hard to say if it's more of that, or something else.

Sort of on-topic...

Are there any spots that there are no assets to be found? It seems I've hit a few including one that's inhabited by Reapers.

well there was an ap that shows images from the the lead writers notebook
ending was mean to be bad from the start
people raged now the ME3 story forums are locked
WOW Bioware just keeps digging them selves in deeper
http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/355/index/9999272&lf=8

I read through it, I don't see how it proves anything. First of all, that app wasn't made by Bioware so we have no idea how old that information is...

If you noticed Chris Priestly's post:
"I have shut off posting to this ENTIRE forum so people see this response.

The rules here WILL be obeyed. We do not allow swearing or the swearing or abuse of staff or moderators here. Anyone seen doing this will be banned from this site.

The app that has caused this controversy IS NOT FROM BIOWARE. Stop yelling at us for making and charging you for an app. We did not make this it was done by Geoff Keighley. When I reopen this forum you are welcome to discuss the content in teh app in a rational manner.

I cannot comment on it as I have not downloaded or seen the app yet.

This forum will reopn soon once everyone has seen this."

Second, haters are gonna hate. It just shows SOME pages from his notebook and it's all stuff that we already saw in the game. There's no new information that's not already present in the game. So if you believed that the ending was the ending before, this won't change your mind and if you believed in "the theory" before, this won't change your mind.

I did however see a couple of notes that help "the theory"
They clearly wanted to create speculation from the notes. Having it seem like a hallucination = creating speculation, they've clearly achieved that.
The other was the note that proves they thought about Shep being indoctrinated at the end, but couldn't pull it off how they wanted. The thought is there, who's to say they didn't change the indoctrination to how the final scene is now in game.

Just my opinion, I'll continue to believe "the theory" until BW actually comes out and says otherwise.

if this whole mess was just to cash in on DLC im done with EA and Bioware i will never spend another dime on there stuff

I'm not going to buy the app, but I did read the thread on BSN. It was stated that the ending was planned. But there's no information after that, that could mean ANYTHING, including that "the theory" was a part of the plan.

I also forgot the note where they said the end was like the Matrix which could mean...

Red pill = break free
Red ending = break free

And also no where in the notes does it say that Shep isn't hallucinating or isn't indoctrinated at that point

I'm not going to change my mind until I hear directly from Bioware. A third party app that doesn't show all the information behind the scenes won't change my mind. If they are planning something they're not going to let this guy show it, who's to say they didn't give him a partial story board that just shows what we already know. I'd doubt they'd give this journalist any super secret stuff about the ending.

And I'm also not going to get mad at Bioware until I know for a fact they're charging for "ending" DLC. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

This. I don't typically buy into the whole "gamers with principles" BS, but I will make my stand if this turns out to be the case.

On the other hand, if BioWare is just trolling us and we get free DLC, I'd be more apt to pre-order every BioWare game from now on.

Honestly BioWare probably won't be telling us the truth. If anything they'll leak this and that to try and buy more time to make this right with the fans. Regardless of what they planned in the first place. If nothing else, because people getting burned on this franchise will be gun shy of future BIoWare games and more specifically future Mass Effect games.

They'll fix this. One way or another.

Your optimism is enviable. I don't see how there can be future Mass Effect games unless they're prequels.

It's crazy how I liked the ending right after I played it, yet now I have no desire to replay any of it. Even the MP is a bit depressing. Must be a delayed reaction.

Well like others have said, if what they were going for was actually instilling the idea that the game ended on some sort of hallucination or dream you never know. I'm not going to write off the idea that there will be another mass effect. The scene at the end of the credits certainly could be interpreted as a heads up for another game the "one more" line is hard to believe as the last line of dialogue in a series and it just feels too Hollywood to me to not mean they are making another game.

I'll say this, this is not the first time Shepard has died in Mass Effect, in fact by my count this is the 3rd time Shepard has potentially died and that didnt stop them.

13k assets from single player does not sound realistic at all. would not even seem within the realm of possibility, unless you had a save with every dlc character, and all the mobile apps, and they're somehow worth so many more points than main characters. of course I tested it, why else would I even bother posting about this? there's also a complete list of known assets here if you want to see for yourself.

I had no problem getting to the 8k mark, it's that last 1000 that you will find is unreachable without increasing your modifier. when all those little side missions only amount to 5-20 points each, how much more do you really think you could find? and not only that, you also have to make all the right choices in this AND previous games not to actually reduce this number. I want to play the game, not watch youtube.

I would hope not, but it would seem that people are indeed confusing this number... that's what the whole discussion is about, the fact that you can't use over 50% of your assets from the main story, thus preventing you from accumulating enough to unlock every story option.

Honestly BioWare probably won't be telling us the truth. If anything they'll leak this and that to try and buy more time to make this right with the fans. of course they will, provided you spend more money on it. it's all part of the ruse, leave something vital out -> people rage but still keep on playing -> use pr to stall -> then release some super awsome enhancements that everyone will want. this has been a standard tactic of the whole series in general, if you look at all the changes in ui and mechanics between each installment.

I'm 29 hours in and the game seems endless...way too many side missions keep popping up...the main story is fantastic thus far...I've lost some key squad mates in very emotional ways...ran into tons of major and minor characters from the previous games as well...I hope the ending doesn't screw things up for me as badly as I'm hearing on these forums

Folks, remember we have a dedicated spoilers thread so please be careful in here. :)

Same here but I just broke 30 last night and I can tell that I'm near the beginning of the end and it's a melancholy kind of feeling because I've really been enjoying the hell out of this. I'm expecting the ending(s) to be a disaster but shy of that what a hell of a satisfying ride this has been. This series of games have better for me than a lot of books and movies. Even a super crappy ending won't change that overall assessment from me.

Ok, so I'm not nuts. I thought that was a little weird those systems were empty. I wonder if those are future DLC hot spots or something.
