i miss my s754.. but i didn't really have a choice, as the opteron was just too good of a deal to pass up after the incident :(
 
Came across a 3700+ mobile, so gonna replace the 3700 DTt and see if I can improve the scores of mine over at yer site Eclipse.......
 
hmm, since i have a job now, i might just build me a nice cheap s754 rig....never know what i could use it for. and since im going water again, i can push this rig to the brink! :D
 
I had my computer apart last night; apart from some general maintenance like blowing out dust and redoing some of my cable management, I did a couple small mods.

First I went ahead and did the ghetto two slot cooling 'mod' on my 6600GT as you can see by the (now fan removed) PCI slot blower that’s been mounted right under it that allows the cards fan to suck cool air in directly from outside the case. Second I cut off the highly restrictive fan grill that Lian-Li decided to punch cut out of their case and more than doubled the amount of airflow coming from the fan (Is it supposed to dampen fan noise or something?)


And here's the money shot of my s754 Athlon 64 3000+. I decided to finally remove the stock thermal pad and replace it with AS5; I'm not sure I did it right though (I spread it on) and while my load temperatures did go down, my idle temperatures went up o_O
 
Personal update: Still annoyed at the Chaintech VNF3-250 mostly because of the horrible screeching and the shitty temp reporting.

As a result, I have a DFI LanParty mobo on the way from a fellow forum member. Fresh RMA from newegg too. Hope I won't have to wait too long to try it out. Stupid Windows registration is my only obstacle.
 
hello everyone. ive deamed dimm1 on my dfi ultra-d dead, or my ram is lame. either way, ive bought more ballistix and am in the process of sending my redlines to Ozzimark for testing. i got a new monitor and have been playing with it, its really nice. the 914V for 200 bucks from Staples.

also, the chaintech is a noisy board, it squeeled all the time with me, but i liked the squeal :D . the temp reporting was shitty, but the DFI will fix that bigtime.
 
yeah, i'm actually kinda excited for that redline.. i'm gonna have a lot of ram to play with when i get back to school:
2x512mb pc3200 ballistix, 5b D flavor
2x512mb redlines
2x256mb hyper-x, old bh-5 (that has done 270mhz with 3.5v on my dfi nf3)

you don't really need to reinstall windows. just reinstall the chipset drivers and you'll be good

well.. the ballistix will be there first. by the time i get the redlines, the ballistix should be mostly taken care of ;)

yeah, 754 was fun. i'll probably sell this opteron and use s754 as my main rig when M2 comes out and i start doing testing on that :p

newegg has the 3700+ A64 for 205 now with a free 80 Gb HD or a free Biostar s754 MB thrown in. I'm thinking about it. I dont want to build another system until M2 arrives.

I was having fun OCing this Shem-pron but I went the other way now and went back to stock and installed C & Q. Idles at 1Ghz - this computer used to keep this room warm but now it doesnt...lol :rolleyes:
 
the wild thing is, I cant tell any difference from stock speed to 2.52 Ghz playin bf2. Smooth as butter both ways.

Any you wont see much of a differance between the two with that video card unless you play at uber low res with all the eyecandy turned off (for some reson this causes CPU performance to have a major impact on how the game plays...)
 
This thread is really starting to kick back up again. ;) Glad to see it, I still think 754 is a solid platform. Hell, for $200 for a motherboard/3700+, that might be one hell of a folder for the money. Speaking of which, all of you start folding under the username tsuehpsyde for team 33! Go! :D

I would try that and it would make me happy but, Windows is on my lameo IDE drive, and supposedly this DFI does not like IDE and SATA at the same time. That would render my 2500KS useless :(
