Love your socket 754?

Well, there will be a few limits. Finding the max for his ram(Crucial Value PC3200 1GB stick) which I figure should be around 230 (230*12 (266Ram divder) = 2760), Cpu should hit 2.5-2.7 on stock cooling, motherboard should hit 300 with ease.

I'm guessing his optimum configuration will be 2600MHz, 217MHz Ram, 325FSB.

Not that any of that matters till he upgrades the 6200 128MB that I'm giving him(450core, 580mem on OC).

If you need help with it, let me know. It has a different bios from the Lanparties (waaay different)

How high were you able to get your HTT? Any specific bios setting help you get there?

I'm still using the 8/11 official bios. Anything special in that beta?

My sempy will do 320/2560 at 1.6v....I have to bump to 1.65 to get a full 325/2600. I'd like a full 2700 if possible, and I'd uncap if that would help.
My temps are not a problem....38C priming.

Well, my X-Fi somewhat works now in PCI Slot 2. Wouldn't work at all before. That was a big plus. :) Still doesn't work in Slot 3 which sucks because slot 2 is so close to the video card. I wonder why DFI put the PCI-E 16x slot below all of the 1x slots? Pretty annoying.

I'm actually thinking of going the SFF route. I was going to purchase the DFI NF4 board and switch to a PCI-E gfx card but this AOpen SFF barebone caught my eye recently.

I know its SIS, and I'm not too concerned with overclocking capabilites, but I kinda like the idea of having a SFF system (and eventually an LCD) for its small size and portability. I'd have to get rid of my memory and move up to 2 x 1gb.

That was a really bad move unless you're sticking with an AGP video card for some reason. The Socket 754 NF4X has a PCI-E slot and is an nForce4 and is $20 cheaper than the nForce3 Lanparty UT.

QFT.
I've got both it and the NV8, and both look to be incredible boards with some wicked cool BIOS settings, but the lack of BIOS updates from Abit is making me pretty unhappy. I mean, I email them every day asking them to hurry up and fix the HTT bug, but noooo, apparently that will help overclockers, and we can't have that now, can we?!
Snooty bastards. I want more than 250HTT on my Sempr0n, Abit!

Probably not worth it in your case, unless you try some extreme measures. They don't really overclock a lot. I can't get any higher than 2.6 no matter what voltage I try. I was running it in an open case for a while. When I buttoned it back up, I had to place my case near a slightly open window in order to draw cooler air into it so I could keep the temps at something comfortable for me. (48C idle)

For those buying 754pin 3700's through eWiz - go through froogle because they put a special price on there. I only paid $154 though the price has gone up to $158. Still lower than their direct website listed $165.

update: they raised it again today to $159.50 :(
If you live east coast, don't select their ground shipping. Like SVC they offer USPS if the item is under 13 ounces so that is your best bet. I had ordered a motherboard (geforce 6100) and chose ground. Took NINE days to get here, pure torture.

cheapguys also has them but at $169+ship (Florida based with retail stores)

I overclock my 754 to 2640. To keep it cool, I use the Rightmark CPU clock to drop the multiplier down to 6x and 1.1 volts when there is light/no loads.

Broken linky on that rightmark page.

As an aside, why would an overclocker buy that 3700 over a 3000 DTR?
Same core, right? Shouldn't they reach about the same speeds, for ~$40 less?

works for me. also.. the claw's very a lot. at least with the 3700+, you're sure to get 2.4ghz. the 3000+ DTR doesn't always do that :(
also, you're talking a $40 difference for a 600mhz bump in stock speed. i would definitly spend that $40

Is it more luck or cooling accounting for the OC differences on those DTRs? Are the newer runs any better?

die quality varies, thus luck. cooling has a bit to do with it too, but not a whole lot, unless you're comparing phase and air ;)

If the 3700 won't go much higher than I have ATM, what are my upgrade options?
I don't really want to go 939, would rather wait for M2, although the X2's are tempting me!

I feel that this 2.5Ghz just isn't fast enough in general use, gaming is fine, happy with that.

Newark if your mobo supports them.

How does one select USPS for shipping option thru e-wiz?

On checkout if the item is light enough it will give you that option.
I noticed it when I tested a few things for pricing.
If it's too heavy they won't offer it... (I think 13 ounces is the limit for USPS first class).

As was mentioned before, you have Newark (up to 4000+, 2.6GHz) and you also have the Turion chips. MT-40 right now is the "best", and its right around $330. You can get an MT-34 for about $220.

This is why I love my 754pin.
cpu $154 + motherboard $56 + 512mb $10AR

I know it's nothing to brag about but I'm coming from an XP 2400 so it's fun for me.
Now to read up on this HTT stuff and see if I can make it more efficient
Any suggestions are well appreciated..

since when was general use more demanding than gaming? ;)

no, a well kept hard drive is best for windows responsiveness. when i go from an 80gb, 4mb cache ata133 hd to a 8.4gb, 1mb, ata33 hard drive... damn, do i notice the difference, even with an opteron at 2.9ghz and utt at 240mhz

Noob here but owner of a socket 754 Newcastle 3200+ amd64.Don't really have a clue to overclocking but have been reading some of the threads about OC'ing doing searches.

hes probably talking about snappieness in windows. UTT will ail his wants for snappy in-windows activity.

Yup, it just doesn't feel as responsive as it should. I think my HDD is well kept, tidy, defragged etc.

Epox EP-8NPA SLi on the way.

SLi
Sata II
Gb lan
10 usb
and oh yea...
skt 754

just my way of stickin it to the man

My 3400/DFI LP is still going strong...Dont see the need to upgrade just yet

I play...

Quake 4: 1680x1050 High Quality
San Andreas: 1680x1050 Max
BF2: 1680x1050 Most high/texture=medium
Half Life 2: 1680x1050 Max

Haven't tried FEAR yet, but I didn't like the demo so I doubt i'll like the full game. All my saved $$ is going towards 360 :)

wow amd price startin to drop dramtically so there's more time for us to upgrade our system for cheap lol. :p
