Finally got my stuff on Monday. 4 years since my last upgrade.

Not seen is my Santa Cruz sound card, Viewsonic LCD, Microsoft Keyboard, and Logitech mouse. :)

omg... i love everything about that picture.... * drools*

sign me up!.. ill email you in a bit with a beautiful pic

I just finished setting up the water cooling yesterday. The pics came out really overexposed so I will be posting my rig tomorrow.

i say whoever gets an M2 first can found the club ;)

also, i should be getting a s939 soon. i will stay true to my s754 roots, but i'll have an opteron 144, maybe with a dfi nf4 ultra-d

yea im going to s939 too. i will stay true to my s754 roots by giving him a nice retirement at 2.3 or 2.4ghz with an xp90 and panaflo. hes gonna be firefoxing, gaming, and photoshopping. s939 has won me over, and ill be going at it with a 3000+ venice that can do 2.6ghz, mobo limited, and a dfi nf4 mobo.

Well, I don't have a camera -- digital or otherwise -- but, you can add me if you like. There's not much to see anyway. I just have a plain white generic full tower (eg lots of room) with a 120mm circle cut out of the side and a 120mm fan mounted in it (did that for my old system, not this one) and two fans from an hdd cooler (40mm I'd guess) in the back. My setup is as you see in the signature. So far tested stable at 300x8x3, further testing to follow. The CPU isn't going to go up too much more, but, this motherboard simply amazes me and I don't yet know what I'm going to get out of the FSB, just, it's a pain matching up the HyperTransport (I KNOW it can't hit 1200, but, have yet to test in-betweens) and memory (needs higher voltage to properly overclock, so 215MHz is about it's limit at the max my board supplies.)

I made the mistake of spending the extra to buy a Venus 12 HSF to put on it. It never hits 40C even in Prime95. In retrospect, I should have just stuck with the stock HSF or bought some cheap peice of junk. This chip is incapable of running hot, I swear... It runs into overclocking limitations long before heat limitations.

Frankly, I will defect the moment I can when I can get something better, but, chances are it will be years. I held onto that old mobile athlon xp and was rather happy with it until just recently. Actually, it was working great for modern games even. I upgraded for the sheer raw processing power that made it become possible to do things such as even BETTER quality filtering in ffdshow (lanczos resizing to 1440x1080 with things like noise reduction and such.)

Count me in! I just upgraded from my year old S754 rig to the one in my sig....it was a good trade! Actually my 6yr old son now has my sweet SFF rig, so it stays in the family so to speak. :D

Sorry the pic is bad :( but this is all I got...

Also its kind of a mess but I have everything cleaned up now.

I miss my AMD S939.
I am using a Pent. III with a total of 128MB of ram.. it sucks :(
I like how my hard drives are placed.. Backwards.. I'll post them up sometime.

Hey, don't underestimate the power of such a machine. First of all, with GeeXBoX it can manage DVDs and every AVI/MPEG I've thrown at it so far, plus, it makes a great retrogaming PC and all around emulation for anything pre-32-bit.

really?
well there is something wrong with my machine..
When i double click a 5 minute mp3.. winamp takes 40 seconds to appear and play the mp3. Wiamp should only takes 5 seconds or below to open.

All around slow/bad preformance.
Maybe its just b/c i'm comparing it to the rig in my sig? :p

Main reason. Video card's fan is not working.. i was reaching 80 degrees C when i was just typing on aim. I was told if i go under load in BF2 i would reach 90-100 degrees C and that would melt my card.
(RMAing the video card ASAP after i get that 8 to 4 pin ATX-12V adapter.. then that will be fixed)

2nd reason. My ATX-12V is not plugged in, and i do not have that 4 pin molex cable.
When i boot up; my Gigabyte board gives me 5 short beeps. Which is a processor/power supply error.
(Enermax is sending me the 8 to 4 pin adapter that i need.. this will *hopefully* fix the 5 short beep error i am getting)

awhh the stress of not having your comp.setup when you spent so much money. :p

Under proper conditions, it can do really simple things like playback of MP3s just as well as your modern system -- excluding if you have a bunch of other things running at the same time or somesuch (the newer system obviously can handle more at once overall.) However, proper conditions means things like not overloading the living daylights out of it with unnecessary things. For example, use Windows 98 SE at the latest, anything like XP will just bog it down to a crawl. Get rid of any spyware/etc of course. Also, GeeXBoX is great because it burns to a bootable cd-rom and runs on a live linux session designed for maximum efficiency. It can play MP3s and other audio files, but, it's not exactly an optimal setup (it uses mplayer, which is great for videos, but, I would never use that for my audio player unless everything was broken.) Well, if all else fails, you can rig up a dos bootdisk using mpxplay to get you by for now.

You know, funny thing. On the subject of video playback and such, my current CPU is primarily being used for video processing these days. d-: Well, it takes amazing sheer raw cpu power to manage lanczos resize up to my monitor's maximum resolution combined with postprocessing and denoise (+ denoise3d hq) and yet this cpu still has somewhat leftover. My poor old barton running at the same clock speed was doing ok for gaming, but, just barely pulled off the lanczos with no room for anything else. San Diego is an amazing chip...

Interesting.
Well without anything running and no spy stuff (to my knowledge) an mp3 takes 40 sec.
I Am running Windows XP Pro.. So i guess your right.

Yeah i agree. San Diego chips are awesome..

san diego = venice + 1mb l2 cache (well, essentially)

If you like venice, you can't hate san diego.

THIS explains it...

ty Nazo..

Agromahdi123 try reading before you post.. espesially when its a opinion

New to the club...Shuttle SN95G5V3 houses a very nice 3200+ Venice. Aiming to grab a X2 3800+ in early November.

Hey, guys, I just got the thread title changed so we wouldn't be like all the other "clubs".

After all, don't you want to be different, just like everybody else? :p

Oh, and if I may ask, without geting flamed, how does one hate a processor? (San Diego)

Aren't we all AMD lovers? Don't be H8n! ;)

Some of us may hate Pentiums. ^_^ Or, more on topic of this thread, a few may hate 754 and the way AMD kind of stuck people with them (the sudden switch seems kind of cruel to the people who spend so much on 754, but, I'm sure they did need the extra pins for good reason.) Personally, I bear no hatred towards any of these and, in fact, was originally considering getting a clawhammer instead (the original deal would have been a lot cheaper, but, I missed the combo, so it only would have been about $20 total more to go 939 counting the nice motherboard. I didn't hesitate and, after watching the temperature monitor never manage to go over 40C on the CPU -- even when the AC has been off for too long -- I decided it's worth it.)

I'll join the alliance! I jumped ship from Intel (Pentium II-450 - yes, it was painful over the past couple years) to AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice (Socket 939, of course).

As the newly appointed Assistant to the Co-Chair of the Committee on Noise Control for the S939 Alliance, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask all of you rowdy folks to calm it down a bit. I have mace, and I won't hesitate to use it. :p

And how damn long do I have to walk around with this n00bie tag stuck to my name!!!???

i was tired, and trying to make a joke, i have a place in my heart for all AMD processors, but especially 939
