Ikea desk gallery

looks like a pain to wheel around on those floors, considered a small rug to put for your chair? or one of those plastic mats designed for the purpose?

the plastic mats work "ok" if you're not very heavy set and or on a budget. personally I got a laminate chair "mat" it's awesome. no getting stuck and smooth rolling.

Actually, it's okay it doesn't bother me. Of course I don't roll smoothly like on the plastic mats, but I can get around in the room. And it keeps the chair in it's place if I lean back, I've had some occasions where I lean back and the chair flips over lol.

posted in the W/S thread but since the old Jerker thread was locked I figured i'd post my rig in this one.

o/t but anyone have any Jerker shelves for sale/trade?

I have that same color jerker, even got 2 of the side swing shelves and the extra "top" shelf. I can't wait to get it setup..

hows that westy treatin ya? Whats that thing next to it in the last 2 pics?

I currently have a cheap particle board desk top with a metal frame. My question, is that the galant looks kinda similar to it. My desktop wiggles right now when I put any kind of weight on the front of it (kind of tips down towards me a bit). This scares me since my monitor and things are on the desk, so, does the galant do this sort of thing, or is it really stable? Thanks!

Its insanely stable. I have 3 monitors, laptop, and ps3 / 360 on mine and when I need to check plugs I sit right on the front and lean over the stuff and it barely moves. Are you talking about the corner desk or the straight one?

If you mean the corner desk when I get home I can snap a picture of the frame underneath / legs so you can see what it's really like.

I don't have the room for a corner desk (unfortunately, have always wanted to own one) so I am looking at the straight one. Can't decide between the 63"x30" and the 47"x30." The desk I have now is a 47" one and it barely fits all my stuff. Maybe need to find a jerker or something... Well, thanks for the info on the desk and for offering to take pictures!

:) Found a Jerker on CL for $70! I emailed and am waiting for response... Lamil, did you get the T legs or A?

No extras. Supposedly almost perfect condition and it only has one shelf on top. Not sure if that is standard as I have seen photos of the desk with two shelves on the back. I offered them $50. I think that is a good deal for a decent desk.

Gratz! Can't wait for pics!

I also had a question about another jerker, the guy is asking for $100 and I offered $60 but he said it was too low. It has no extras except for a second top shelf. Apparently it is in great condition. What do you guys think is a fair price? Thanks! (sorry for all the questions, never bought second hand furniture from CL).

This weekend I picked up a Jerker desk exactly like post #6 also with the extra top shelf for $55. It's pretty close to being mint and was used briefly in an office. I often see Jerkers offered on CL for a bit less then mine but I paid more for this one because it was so clean.

I see, so $60 isn't really too little. I have another jerker that I offered $50 for and I think that they will take it. It doesn't have the second top shelf though. Does the Fredrik topshelf fit the jerker?

If you are paying $100 for a Jerker you are paying too much. I recently purchased 2 Jerkers from CL for $70 each. Both came with the extra top shelf and the printer shelf. Something that I have noticed is that depending on the city, some sellers are just trying to squeeze people based on general interest. Not that they are trying to rip off anyone, but if they know it is a highly sough after item, they will jack the price up to try and find that one person who is willing to pay.

For example here in CA, the 2 Jerkers I found in LA County were $70 each, but in Orange County, the lowest price was $100. And that was without the extra shelves! The difference between the 2 counties is about 15 miles. If you are patient, you will eventually find a good deal on a Jerker. Just keep looking.

The ones I bought have some scratches on the legs from the table portion, but I plan on modding both of them with a repaint eventually and replacing the tabletops and shelves with real wood for longevity. :)

BTW, yes I am a n00b and this is my first post. So play nice. :p

my Galant desk... from the original IKEA store in Älmhult, i live 45minutes from there ...

Jokke, that is hot. Your monitor bezel is curved, keyboard and numpad both curve too. Amazing!

Original Jerker with slide-out extensions on both sides. No height extension, and swing-out arms removed. Gorm shelvings units on both sides.

Will be replacing with 2 x 47 inch Vika Lauri frosted glass tables, and selling the Jerker.

My mum and dad was renovating the kitchen (With things from IKEA) and they got a bench over, So I've got a IKEA desk also :D

Maybe i'm out of the loop here but what is the appeal of ikea desks? I looked around on their site and all the desks look empty to me and have no backing to hide cables. Maybe I'm out of the loop and was just wondering if someone could tell me. I'm not trying to flame, just being quizitive.

it's the minimalism...you are free to do what you want with the desks because there is no shelving, etc. to get in the way of your rig. i like clean lines

i have triple monitors and would be hard pressed to find a good, flat 'playing surface' at so low a price

most [h] ppl i've noticed, like to spend their dollars where it counts the most - the equipment, not the desks...ikea is a low-cost option that seems to work well

Ah I see. I'm one for loving built in desks that wrap around a wall and are large enough to house 3 desktop computers a large printer and still have paper "work space". I love large desks. But then again when I finally get a home I'll have an "office" for the desktops.
